you'd thinkthat since the crowd drank the place dry of beer, they wouldn't be so goshdarn uptight. we had seats way up in the back corner and i couldn't believe how still most everyone kept. 't'wasn't right. i have such a hard time containing myself when this band performs that i'm always taken aback when i see people so rigid. all 'n all, i didn't ultimately care. my friends and i were having ourselves a time! this was by far my best DAR experience though. the sound was clear and the boys just flat out RAWKED!! i'm digging jim's cape.

youaregiventofly: those are some amazing pics. i particularly like the one of carl by his pedals. those seats must've been spectacular. i hope to see you at the philly show. we'll be rolling up from dc

7th row outside aisle, JJames side.  Have fun at "Off the Record".  Looks like a rocker's dream! ;)

Uh-oh...how tall are you?

I'm in row 6 on the aisle on JJ's side and rather tall without additional head gear.

I believe I figured out who you are are and it was no problems at all.

Yeah, I was stunned by how passive the crowd was. There was a woman next to us, in the front row, with her back to the stage. I thought maybe they should get her on stage because she was obviously the coolest motherfucker in the room.

All our rocking out in the midst of the too-cool was worth it though; as they left the stage Carl (who we were directly in front of) pointing to the two of us, smiled, and bowed.  So the crowd was awful but as you pointed out they sounded fucking excellent, especially Bo. Ive never heard him so loud or so tight, he was unbelievable. The keys during Steam Engine were downright Floyd-esque.
Say friend, you got any more of that good sasparilla?

Jane

hey j_rud i was with you last night! i was with my friend Ali and i waited for the guys after the show and then we made you walk us to our car.

i was speechless after lasts night show. It was amazing. my jim james curse is gone!!

BH

Thanks for the reviews guys!

So normally you can't bring drinks to your seats?  What the fuck is that all about?  Is it run by Mormons?  Are the seats made of silk?

Seriously, we cannot stand by and allow for people to think they can get away with such a horrible policy.  What kind of country do we live in, where a man or woman can't sustain their buzz while in a sitting position.   Outrageous!  This must be discussed at the first presidential debate!
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Haha, hey! It was nice to meet you guys. Everyone in that little group of 9 or 10 people was really cool. Did you get to meet everyone? I didnt get home until 3:15 lol.

I agree with "j-rud" amazing show, very much like RCMH last June. I'm a long time fan of MMJ had have travelled to see them whenever I can, and this show one of their better ones. I'm sick and tired of people moaning about DAR and other venue's just go to the show, dance, jump around and have a good time. Don't worry if you can bring your drinks to the seat or if you can't stand in the aisle, it will all work out.

I got to DAR at 4pm on Wednesday and got to meet Jim, Tommy & Carl, very nice to me, talked, got a photo with Jim etc etc, ask Carl for a photo but he ask me "do you mind if I don't I'm not feeling so cool today" sure I don't mind was my reply, he said "thanks". I waited & waited for Bo & Patrick but them never turned up, must have bben inside, doors open at 7pm sharp, and it took for ever for DAR to fill up, but I did not mind, i ahd my seats & was happy like a pig in shit !! MMJ came on at 8.25pm and played, & played & played, it was amazing, highlists for me were Golden, Dondante, Cobra & Run Thru, but serious very song was perfect. I agree with a few of the other people that posted here that ther was a big mixed of people, aged 20's, 30's 40's & even older, nothing wrong with that, but if I were a beting man I would bet that 70% there last night it was their first time and did not know how to handle the songs, how to behave etc etc, but that's ok, Welcome Newbies

Show finished at 11pm approx so I went back outside to meet the band again to get my two (copied) set list from RCMH signed by Bo & Patrick, they were my last two remaining members I needed, so while there I meet "j-rud" and "Youare_GivenToFly" two boys like me that travel to see MMJ anywhere. Nice to have meet you guys. (Irish dude), while there there was this other guy saying that the band had too come out & sign our material as he said "its a business for the band" "they have to please the fan'safterwards" what a "tool" it was his first time there & he did not know the way things go. I know "j-rud" was not happy with this guy !!!

Anyway Tommy came out and then shortly Jim, Carl & Bo, but no sign of Patrick, well everyone then left (fans) once they got 4 autographs, but I waited & waited & waited until 1.30am for Patrick, and finally Bo got off the bus and told me that he would go inside to the venue and have Patrick sign my two set lists, and surely he did, even writing "Go Ireland" on the top of it. That was very nice of Bo, he did not need to do that but I guess that what MMJ are really like, just down to earth guys that don't see it as a business.

So off to C/ville for tonights show, hoping to get there early again to see if I can meet them again.

Like that they played Gideon later only if for the reason that it was different and not having a 1, 2, 3 Z start.

The Steam Engine close was sick, didn't get Evelyn, and was my preferred final 3 tracks in that order, at least for this tour.

As for the tall lady in the 6th row, glad you were there because not may else were rockin' out the way we were in our section.  I won't even get into the sitting down in the 7th row text messaging and inability to nod your head during a song let alone rock out.

On a acoustics note, this show sounded better than the last DAR show and more to the point, was louder.  (we were in front of the speakers)  Its seems that the show got louder as it went on and that  was good thing.  Anything to give them a kick in the ass!

I was a little relieved when I looked behind me and saw two women, not that I wanted to block their view either.  I think I moved around enough that they were able to see just fine.  :)

Hey, good to see you posting. It was great to meet you and your cousin, we MMJ nomads share a common bond lol.

As for that gentleman, I wasnt trying to be rude and I understood his perspective, but when he said "well speaking from a business standpoint they really should" I was pretty bummed. I had just experienced catharsis, a damn life affirming experience, and you wanna talk about the bands obligations to us as businessmen? It just seemed vulgar. Like I said, the band has given more to me than I could ever give to them.

Cant believe you waited around that long for Patrick! Pretty damn awesome that Bo came out and did that for you. They all seemed really down to earth though, so it doesnt surprise me. I hope your friend appreciates that gift, its absolutely amazing.

Again, it was good to meet you. Maybe we'll run into each other again further down the trail.

Nice to have meet you and your friend, your truly MMJ fans driving from Philly to DC to see them. I was jealous that you got to see them in L/ville, would have loved to gone to that show....

I hope we will meet again

Last night was only my 2nd time at DAR.  First show there was Ryan Adams and the Cards.  Sitting down was strictly enforced.  There was a woman who got out of her seat in the 4th row, walked out to the edge of a doorway to dance, and they made her sit down.  For that show, no drinks were allowed inside the venue.  They did allow us to stand up for the encore.

Last night, I felt like I was in the twi-light zone.  I had a friend who bought a ticket on the street, didn't even know where her seat was, but walked down to say hello to me about midway through the show.  From there, and right in front of security, she slid into row 2 on the aisle.  ;D  The her roommate came up.  For the encore, 3 more friends came down from section G and slid into row 4 center...drinks, cameras, and all.

The Whigs are playing there soon.  I was going to see them in Baltimore instead, but now I wonder if I should take my chances with DAR.

Anyhow, great show last night.  Anybody see or hear from CTDeadhead?

Jack

My first MMJ show and it was glorious... rocked out from start to finish in spite of the crowd who barely mustered an appendage movement beyond the head bob.  Good god this town is buttoned up.  You'd think we were screening Terms of Endearment.  I've lived in DC for seven years and can't get over how lame the "hipster" scene is here.  Going to a concert like MMJ should be an experience, not a viewing. While I enjoyed every minute -- particularly Gideon -- the crowd affected the experience.  This isn't the first time I've been to a show where people were terrified of enjoying themselves -- Wilco in Baltimore a few years back was like attending a lecture -- people just stared.

I won't miss another MMJ show in the area, but maybe a smaller venue will squeeze out the drones.  I'm embarrassed for my town that that was all we could muster for a fantastic show.

If you look in the post reply box there are a bunch of icons on top. Top row, 3rd icon from the left is a little picture. Click on that and it brings up your BB Code brackets. Just paste the address between the brackets and it should work.

My 1st MMJ show...loved it!!! JJ's voice was on big time! Sounded beautiful! The band sounded tight! Excellent light show!

-DAR's so-so...not a lotta energy in the crowd...4 beverage lines for ~3,500 people? stinks....no food...running out of beer. It's pretty in there, but so what? If they play here again, I might not make it down...but not to take away from the band's performance...it rocked!!!!!

-Saw the Bridge play in College Park after this show at the Santa Fe Cafe and the crowd energy was through the roof!
