hi everyone, have been meaning to post smthg. totally random, but i ended up seeing them 5 times (6 if you count RCMH) on this tour. gfriend and i met in louisville to see MMJ. that was awesome. then we drove to KC and saw them again. that was awesome. then we drove to council bluffs/omaha to see them at/outside of a casino. that was really awesome. that was the end of our MMJ portion of what was our first time really driving thru the midwest. (i know louisville isn't really midwest -- we drove from there to minneapolis via IL-MO-NE-IA. everyone in america should spend a wednesday night in downtown des moines.)
then i saw MMJ again in dc (awesome) and home here in boston (awesome).
using MMJ to help get you out to a part of this insanely weird country of ours that you've never seen -- i highly recommend it.
quick thoughts on the band: it'd be better if they could really mix things up more often, but with that said, they really bring it just about every night. inspiring/awesome to see them take older songs to new heights. conflicting/strange to see them get big enough to the point where they're playing pretty large venues, ones that inevitably bring a higher % of people who aren't really there for the music. it's crazy, really crazy, to see jim sing so hard with such confidence. i saw them many times earlier in the decade and he was just a totally different performer, it's really cool to see someone grow/progress/etc.

Welcome!

I am from Michigan and I traveled to Bonnaroo in 2005 just for the Jacket. I saw many great bands there, but I tell ya, I will travel for this band. It's a great excuse to get out and go, and a great excuse to see a band that will knock your socks off every time. I have seen them mainly in MI but they just bring IT to every show.

I agree with you about it being inspiring/awesome to see them take their older songs and even there ever-growing repertoire of kick-ass covers and take them to new heights. They are true musicians, and you can see and feel that each and every time you see or hear them perform.

travelling to see music is a fantatic way to get to places you might not have otherwise visited.
the unexpected treat:  the more you do it, the more you meet people who do the same thing.   [smiley=beer.gif]

In 45 years, MMJ is the first band that has inspired me to step on a plane to follow them around the country.  I've been to Nashville, Louisville, Red Rocks, Dallas, DC, Philly and Milwaukee.  I saw them at SXSW in March, as well as the Jim James' show at St. David's Church, plus the epic Bonnaroo performance.  We're seriously considering New Year's Eve, too.  Each performance has been awesome in its own right and I've made some great friends along the way.
God sure baked a lot of fruitcake, baby.

....just wait until their next tour - when they're not promoting an album.  Okonokos Style.
