Video contribution/participation nice. But as an older guy, I've got to ask, in general is our obsession with toys and "sharing" experience diminishing the depth of the musical experience? It's the Dad with video cam on vacation syndrome- he's never in the picture, not taking it all in and, in the end, he's hardly there at all.

I think so to an extent.  I stopped bringing a camera to shows b/c taking pictures/videos throughout it does diminish the experience as it happens, and the images cannot live up to the live experience.

I totally agree.  I gave up watching music videos a very long time ago.  It almost always ruins the experience for me.  I prefer my own hallucinations. ;)

EDIT: Oh, i guess you're talking about live youtube type stuff.  Oh.  I sort of like that stuff.  Nevermind. :-X
My jacket's gonna be cut slim and checked

Yes. I tried taking my camera/video to a couple of shows and I ended up getting all OCD about when and when not to shoot, so now I leave it at home. And I don't miss it.

easy way

I'm thankful for tapers...both vid and aud, but personally I gotta get lost at a show. I turn my phone off...

Ditto. The only picture I take is of that owl at the beginning of the show on the drums, to forward along as a sort of "Guess where I'm at losers!" to the other Jacketheads I know. After that, I go into that dancy trance we all know and love

I'm going to agree and disagree with this.

What i do is take as many pictures as I can over the first few songs (unless theres a song I really love) and then I put the camera away.  As the years go by, I still have those pictures and it's nice to look back at them and reflect on the good time I had.  I don't take video's that often.  I guess I love bringing home something free from the show that I can hold.

Don't get me wrong, I love music in it's purity.  I am an anti mtv guy and someone who doesn't listen to music that ventures to far from the blues; however I see the value of have a good picture.  I also will take the pictures from the show and sometimes create a poster out of it, instead of having generic posters on my wall it is very cool to have pictures from shows I've been.

I do not like to take pictures unless I am in the front row.

Also the picture in my signature and icon is from the detroit show.  Those pictures hold more meaning to me.
