Hi  all, starting a whole new post for a simple question.  Can not wait for the Madison Garden show, but i have googled my morning ass off just trying to find the "Nearest"  Airport to the Garden, so i can book my flight ticket, and only came up with a headache. I am going to be running on a budget that is going to be tighter than Mayor Daley's monopoly on being Mayor...  and i have heard frightening rumors about Taxi fares costing more than your air ticket.. :-/ It seems to be a toss up between La Gaurdia and Newark (they both seem to be 10 miles or so away), am i correct?, advice will be appreciated. I am flying in on New years eve, flying back to Chicago on New Years day, so Hotel distances are not an option (i have dossed on park benches before! ;))

Try this. http://www.nyairportservice.com
I think It's 12 one way from the airports.

If you fly into LGA you can take the M60 bus. $2 the bus ride sucks
If you fly into Newark you can take the train and that takes you into Penn station directly below the Garden!!! costs $15 one way but a great way to get into the city.

if you don't want to take the M60 bus, there is a shuttle bus that runs about every 15 min from laguardia to grand central/Penn Station for about 12 bucks;

also if you fly into newark, you can also take a shuttle to the path train (1.50) which takes you into Penn Station (it takes longer and you switch at Journal Square but nonetheless)

lots of public transportation opportunities--you don't need to hire a car service (IMO)
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

Can't vouch for LaGuardia b/c Ihaven't flown in/out of there, but if you fly to Newark, take the air train or whatever it's called.  You can transfer onto an NJ Transit train or onto the PATH.  Both systems will take you where you need to be.

Transit trains run right to Penn Station/MSG.  PATH trains stop at 33rd and 6th -- a few blocks from the Garden.  I would not take the bus from Newark.  Depending on the time of day you arrive, you culd be stuck in traffic for a while.

Thanks for all the info guys, sounds like La Guardia will do the trick, and just 1 shuttle ride to Penn station...  see you all on New years eve :D.  (i will be the guy asking for directions :-?)

Yeah correct, but La Gaurdia is such a head ache- trust me. Newark will be a quick $40+ cab ride or you can take the a new and glamorous tram ride direct to Penn Station (across the street from MSG). A much better choice than having to pay for bridge and tunnel tolls at
La Gaurdia. Depending on your flight in the Am you could probably just find a bar around the corner from MSG and crash. You'd probably be no different than any other drunkn' mess on the 31st.
