in brief b/c i have to run to the hairport:

i have a set list here somewhere...until i can find it:

last night's change ups included
-opening the encore w/bermuda highway  LOVELY!
-elvis perkins in dearland didn't play.  turns out they get stuck in some of the bad weather and couldn't make the show. we still got dancefloors unaccompanied.  woot!
-the was a cool show specific poster last night.  heard there'd been two designs, but i only saw one.

this show was just the thing to shake to snow off everyone's boots.  despite the snow, the venue was at near capacity (1200) last night.

met (another) super cool person last night.  she told me that on her way to the last SLC MMJ show, she got in a car accident.  instead of going to the hospital, she went to the show.  after the show, she went in.  mmj--good for what ails you!

must go catch plane...and get some coffee for the love of pete.  *yawn*

thanks yvon!

there always seems to be an extra buzz in the air when it's snowing heavy.  i bet that added a nice little element to the atmosphere.

i heard that jim wore his six shooters and some of his NYE outfit.  i guess it fit well with the snowy wasteland of idaho!
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Hey all, I am new to the board but a long time fan.
The Salt Lake show was amazing, I got to bring a friend along for his first MMJ experience and he was totally blown away. I am so glad they didn't skip over Salt Town (like so many other bands do this time of year).

As far as the posters go, I did the one at the merch table at this show and the SD House of Blues show. As far as I know there as only one. You can see them at: http://www.furturtle.com if you want.

Thanks for the link man!

Are you from Utah?  If so, can you go to the World Dominance thread under the Band section and testify for your fine state please?  Thanks!

furturtle, gorgeous work!  thanks for the link.  i'd heard about the mermaid poster, but thought it was for the slc show.

finally found the setlist/notes.  just have a couple of things to add:

the depot is set up a bit like of a house of blues inside.  one of the security guys told me that intially the venue was developed as a HOB, but they pulled out. it has the horseshoe type balcony, and bars at the back, but is a little less finished and decidedly less theme-y.  (i do believe that clear channel just bought HOB promotions, so any modicum of soul or credibility they once had is toast now.)

i was at the far right front of the stage tonight.  with the small barrier in front of the stage, turned out to be a great spot to see the whole stage.  tough to catch much of patrick, but it was a great spot from which to watch bo play.  the stage was wide and low enough that i could actually see some of the keyboards, see what was going on back there.

-jim came out wearing the serape the bear'd been wearing lately, and gun belt with holsters.  at some point during the show these both made there way off jim and onto the bear.
-tt-t was killing during phone.  damn.  damn.  damn.
-bo's work in they ran slays me.  gorgeous stuff.

also:  let's here it for venues with floor service!  HOORAY!

just got back from Utah - man, good times. Headed down from Snowbird in some pretty nasty snow/ice conditions (at least for this southern man). Great show - loved the Depot. Ended up right in front of JJ on the rail - I got some decent shots and some quick video that I will share tomorrow. Loved the folks around me - everyone having a good time. Setlist follows:

holiday
wonderful
gideon
way he sings
wordless
laylow
phone
off the record
it beats
golden
dondante
run thru
they ran
--------
bermuda
knot comes
dancefloors
mahgeeta
anytime

satisfied? yes, very satisfied.

furturtle - picked up your poster and had a helluva a time getting it home to Atlanta - could not find a big enough mailing tube in Utah. Anyway, it made it and looks great. Wish you guys had signed and numbered - I heard there were only 50 printed? I've done some posters in my time and really love the design. nice work my friend!

I guess I was fed some false information from the merchadise booth, seeing as there were over 200 printed. How did I get the one that was unsigned and unnumbered> bad luck, I guess.  :)

furturtle

There were a little over 200 printed on both Salt Lake and San Diego. They sold 50 at each show and those (and the remainder of the band's cut) are not signed and numbered. My artist proofs are s/n but none of them were sold at either show. So you had it mostly right.

steelyB

cool.  I love the screen design and the heavy stock - very nice. This one is going in a frame.

ms. yvon

remember the short video shown before the show?  it was a mock advert for xanax.  can anyone confirm that the actor who played the pilot was the same who played the man-with-llama in okonokos?

inquiring minds, etc.

steelyB

I think it was definitely the same actor - I said the same thing to my wife when I saw it. I hope the tapes from this show surface. I spoke with the taper and he said he would post them.

ms. yvon

good!  glad you two saw him as well.  i'll have to poke around online to see where this comes from...don't know if the band had it in the bus and brought it into the venue or what.

i'm listening to a recording of this show.  it was sitting on my desk, decided to give it a spin.

it was just about two years ago.  fun to think back.  smack in the middle of a trip that also took me to portland and denver.  i'd left my house in a rush in order to make a last minute flight and forgot my coat, hat and gloves in los angeles.  i bought a lined rain coat in the san jose airport, a beanie that night at the portland show, and some good layers at the REI before heading to utah.

when i listen to this show what i think of is the night i got this recording:
in athens, ga.  night two of the prom shows.  during the encore, up at the stage, a guy danced up next to me and asked if i was ms. yvon.  turned out to be steely b!  he gave me cds of the SLC show, then danced off to find his wife.   ;D

after the show i changed out of my now decimated prom dress, showered, and drove straight to the atlanta airport.  the recording of this slc show took me right back to that show and propelled me and my rental car down those georgia highways.
i flew into LAX and was at work by 10am.

damn, but i love live music.  [smiley=beer.gif]

Ms. Yvon,

You just reek of positivity and good vibes!  I don't post on here a ton, but I always enjoy your posts.  That's all :)
