the sun and moon

thanks for the review.

i noticed jim's been getting some very surprising groupies lately. I was surprised to see some very asking-for-it blondies dressed in short black dresses attempting to do their groupie thang at a MOF show--and failed. they actually looked quite pretty in outdone sort of way.

Alady, not sure how I missed ya...or maybe I didn't and we just were never formally introduced

"I knew from bootleg recordings to expect a lot from the intimate show, but wondered how it might come close to touching the power of Kentucky's best live band. Turns out that the shows are really incomparable, united only in the fact that both are among the best performances you could hope to see."

BH

Nice!  Does that say 'Ol Yim Yames?  And no #37?

Is this right for the setlist?

That's Heaven To Me
Kentucky Waltz
Wonderful (The Way I Feel)
The Right Place
Look At You
The Way That He Sings
Berumuda Highway
Smokin' From Shootin'
Anytime
Magic Marker
His Master's Voice
It Beats 4 U  (Sweet!)
Peace In The Valley

His Master's Voice says #10 even thought that's the 11th song.  Did he skip Anytime?
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Kory

the signature is Ryan Pickett...
sorry I haven't checked in to give my opinion, just not much time.
It was a great show and I was so disconnected from the show with my camera but I think I got some sweet shots and a little hd video from on of my nikons...

Yes, I think you have the right setlist BH.  right, guys?
I can't wait for the recording.  I have a feelin its gonna be better than the Rud.  And ya, although I did get to shake Jim's hand, I didn't wanna bother him.  that is Ryan Pickett's signature.  I thought it would be cool - I think Ryan does most of the sound work for Jim and the band and he was a super cool guy so I asked him to toss me a scribble....

I should clarify that the folks I saw in the 21c lobby were perfectly respectable looking, both men and women...I guess I was just surprised to see them there?  I guess MMJ really is that big of a band now, that there will be people hanging out just to catch a glimpse of them.  Still seems odd somehow   ;D

BH, I'm not sure Magic Marker was played.  I could be wrong, though.  I can't believe I forgot It Beats 4 U and Look at You.  Both were fantastic.

danz, I'm sad we didn't get to meet!  Where were you standing?

Nice review from You Ain't No Picasso.  I definitely get this part:

Likewise, the massive spectacle of a My Morning Jacket show was pared down to an intimate performance that gave me a chance to focus on the lyrics and vocal performance.

You know how sometimes a song just *clicks* for you and you finally get it, really get it?  Smokin' from Shootin', 12.6.09, alady   :)

I'm pretty sure that they were waiting to surprise their friend, as I was in the lobby and the group of 20 people or so erupted into a "Surprise!!"  and then into a chorus of Happy Birthday.

ALady

Hahaha, really?  Well that would explain a lot   ;D

I was wondering the same thing about why everyone would be standing at the entrance like that, then they scared the hell out of me!  Quite fun though, wish I had something fun like 21c + Show for my bday!

i was directly in front of Jim, kinda between/behind two ladies in the front row of the audience but only about an arms-length away from Jim's reach.  i think goose got a photo of "me and jim."

alady, did you post that video?  i don't have facebook; is there any other way i could check it?  i can't wait to hear that song again!

ALady

Ah, okay.  We were a ways back, on the left side.

I haven't had time to put the video on youtube today, but hopefully tomorrow!

Hey BH,  it was it Beats 4 U, then his master's voice, then Anytime, which led straight into Peace in the Valley (i guess that is the new one he ended on).  The show was low key, but pretty awesome.  Two solo Jim shows in one year is pretty crazy!

He followed the set list almost to a T from the Rud.  I thought he was done after his MAster's voice (same as Rud), but then threw Anytime to throw a wrench in it.  And it was great solo.  I couldn't believe how great that song sounded solo!

For those of you not there, they said the album DMM, YY, and Ben Sollee are working on is coming out in February.  The Peace in the Valley track will probably be on there along with Kenutcky Waltz.  By the way, that song was incredible when DMM and YY played it.  IT reminded me of old country (i.e. Elvis KEntucky Rain, but nowhere near the same rythm).  I can't really explain it, but you will know when you hear it.

Any friends of mine on FB, I posted pics from the show.  Feel free to enjoy my amatuer snapshots.
Hooked on four like one, two, three

That's awesome!! Ryan's pretty cool. He gave me/my sister a setlist in Melbourne.

And very cool review ALady. Sounds like it was an awesome night. :)
How loud can silence get?

AMightyCaporal

dig the reviews ladies and gents.  So glad ya'll had a  great time.

There were some wicked slutted up groupies at the MOF show they must have been freezing waiting outside because it was definitely cold and they weren't wearing much- lots of people seemed like they were waiting for Conor though.
Oh I'll never say I knew you, but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side

Peace in the Valley is an old traditional tune.

Soulshine

awesome. sauce. I'm glad you all had such a good time. Wish I could have been there...
Because we're all in this together...

SJM

Peace in the Valley is a song from 1939, and Kentucky Waltz was written by Bill Monroe.

I'd really love to hear Rebecca Howell's reading.  It was amazing to see everyone stop what they were doing and listen intently to her words.  So, if and when a taping is released, if it doesn't include the beginning part, we're really being cheated.
