Even if i dont get a ticket to this show I am going to be at pres hall all night trying to find a way in... bribing the door guy i dunno.... worst case scenario I'll listen through the door... ;D

Arudy isn't it also selfish for you to want to keep it at Preservation Hall? Plus what is special about the show is not the size. I saw a few MMJ with less than 100 people in the room. What I viewed as special was the chance to see 2 bands that have meant so much to me over the past 10 years collaborate on stage together. But hopefully I will get that chance on Sunday at the fair grounds.

Also what bothered me is that people are starting to buy MMJ tickets for the purpose of scalping them. This is the first time since I first saw the band in 2002 that I am shut out. During that time you could almost always find tickets the day of the show.

But don't worry they aren't going to move the show. Also I really do hope that all people who do have tickets get a great show.

Arudy is right, the whole point is to play AT Preservation Hall. And yes, what keeps some shows special IS the size. The price you pay as the band gets bigger. I think you should go there early, beg, plead, offer sexual favors...just don't question the band's management for this 'awesome' of a show.

i wish you all good luck getting tix... :) this would be something to behold.  :)

I agree the point is to play Preservation Hall and that is very special. I tend to disagree that size makes a show special. It really is more about the performance. To say that any show that is in a small venue is special is kind of ridiculous. The band just started playing large venues on the last tour. But it is really cool that they are continuing to through in small shows.

I am not sure what you mean by questions the bands "management" since I didn't say anything like that. And I should say that Arudy is kind of right it is kind of selfish, but at the same time I never thought they would actually move the show. Or that anyone would take that request to heart.  It was more a response to some one selling tickets for 2500 which I do find very very selfish.

$2500. WTF?!? Go to the post and flag it as prohibited. Humanity really bites sometimes. I'm sorry I didn't grab an extra ticket for you NoVa...didn't realize how quickly it would sell out and assumed you'd be online when I PMd you.  :(

Here is my email to the poster on Craigslist.

"As a fan of My Morning Jacket, I say "shame on you!"  Did you buy the tickets to go yourself, then found out you couldn't?  Or did you snatch them away from a deserving fan so you could try and make an obscene profit?  If it's the former, don't be an asshole and sell the ticket at face value.  If it's the latter, you are evil.  WTF?  Hell, I had an extra 4th row seat to the MMJ show in Birmingham and I'm selling it on eBay with 100% going to charity.  I had another ticket that I posted on eBay "Buy It Now" for face value.  I could get a lot more but I'm a fan and want others to have a chance to see them without putting cash in the pocket of anyone who isn't MY MORNING JACKET!  They're the ones putting on the show, mofo!  What have you done to deserve $2500+ for 2 tickets?  I hate to imagine empty seats, but I hope no one buys these tickets and you're stuck.  BTW, I am not going to this show, so I am not directly affected by this extortion.

No need to reply."

He replied (quoted below).  I'll be nice and not post his email address.  Anyone know him?  And what the fuck is a "custie"?

"hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Dude, Im a huge MMJ fan, born in Louisville and been a fan since they began. Im going to the show, UNLESS, some idiot wants to give me 5,000$ or something for the tickets. I do that with all the shows I go to. List them and see if someone is willing to pay it. I mean think about it, if someone said to you, here is 5k$, can I go to the show instead of you? Id say, here are the tickets, Ill catch the next show. Ive seen over 500 shows in my day, sorry if what I do bothers you, but Ill take a shit load of cash and miss a show.  Ive seen so many as is, that much cash is too serious to pass up, sorry if you are some custie."

My response (I'll stop here, I promise)

"I'm glad I made you laugh.  Honestly, I try my best to get good tickets to shows I want to see, but far too often they go to people willing to make a buck and mark 'em up.  I just think it sucks.  I'm not against a person's right to sell tickets if it turns out you can't use them, but good seats to great shows seem to go to people who don't deserve them.  I think the fact that you say you're a fan but yet willing to make money on it is sad.  Just my opinion.  Sorry if I come across self-righteous, but whatever."

from the Urban Dictionary:

custie

Short for 'customer'- drug dealer slang used to denote either a customer in general or a customer who would pay higher then average prices for the drugs. Can also be used as a verb 'to custie someone'.

'Super' is often added to strengthen the word (ie a supercustie)
Mike is such a custie...he paid $60 for this eighth of weed.

As verb: I totally custied Mike. He got custie.

I need to let this go, but...

If this guy's such a big fan of MMJ, a native of Louisville, loved 'em since they started, why would he contribute to the practice of scalping?  It doesn't benefit the band, excludes most fans, and contributes to higher ticket prices.  I don't get it.  What am I missing?  I guess I just don't want to ever believe that people are as greedy and selfish as they sometimes appear to be.  I'm all for the free market, but this reminds me of health insurance companies that reap huge profits, yet still hike premiums year after year, or banks that take federal stimulus funds, then give their executives massive bonuses.  Its a fucked up little world, sometimes.

Three weeks to Birmingham!  Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

Another email from Mr. 2500$

"Im willing to make money off of some idiot rich person who is willing to throw their money away. I have a family and realize what I can use to help them out more. If I can get a lot of money and miss out on a killer show, then Id do that for the benefit of them. I see hundreds of shows a year dude, sometimes when you get older, you realize what is more important in life. If no idiot buys them for that price, then I go and enjoy the most fantastic show ever. Why do you think I list them at such a high price? That is what they are WORTH to me as a fan. Welcome to the real world."

Some people are so backwards- there is no reasoning with them you just have to live your life knowing that there are people in this world that you actually hate
Oh I'll never say I knew you, but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side

LowDownLuvDawg

I don't understand why Jacket did not work better with Preservation Hall about this gig.  Many other artists require the ID of the credit card used to purchase at the venue to receive the tickets.  Wilco has started releasing last minute tickets with this policy and I know Tom Waits does this at most of his gigs.  The ball was really dropped on this one.
