QuoteWhen you say that "other dates are scheduled" do you mean that the dates of the fesival are confirmed or more MMJ tour dates are confirmed?

More MMJ tour dates  :D

And now I'm Just Ridiculously Happy Right Now    :)  Don't know if I'll be able to swing Jazz Fest, but this is the best news I've heard all day!

oh you're going! short sets or not...i've heard that even after the shows, the REAL shows last until all hours. the shell fest at the shell station? (i've only heard, sassbox can probably confirm) I've seen the most phenomenal MMJ sets i'm ever gonna see so this is gonna be about seeing a culture and music and experiencing something new/different. i've heard the best shows are the second weekend so if i miss MMJ, i'll catch them again (cuz i'm assuming their set will only be an hour)

but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

I would share the info if I had anything more than "more dates", but that's all I have right now.

Lady...I am hoping  that somehow you can take 2 weeks off and see PJ and MMJ.  :)

Penny -- email coming.  :)

The 7 pm ending is OK, really.  Most days, you're out there running from stage to stage for 8 hours in the Louisiana sun.  You go back to the hotel (or go to Shell Fest or to Liuzza's for a bloody or to some random party that you passed on your way out), shower up, eat if so inclined, and then hit the night time shows.  You get home somewhere between 2 am and 6am, sleep, then do it all over again.  :D

You and me both.  I'm pretty weak-willed when it comes to resisting my favorite bands   :-[ ;D

As Penny mentioned, one of the things holding me back is the thought of traveling all that way for a one-hour "festival set".  Does Jazz Fest have the typical fest schedule, or is it set up more like Roo, with longer sets?

edit: ah, nvm...see you addressed this in the other thread.  What kind of slot do you think MMJ would get?  90 minutes?

Well, I've never been to B-roo, so I'm not sure.  The sets can be anywhere from 30 - 75 minutes.  Though, Panic usually gets a double slot.  Not sure if that will happen this year or not.  They do try to keep the stages on time, but from time to time, people in the final time slot are allowed to play over -- not tons, but maybe a couple of extra songs.

I've traveled for this event for the past several years.  The line up doesn't even matter.  The event is fantastic every year.  This year will just be extra fantastic.

A friend started compiling this site years ago and it has lots of handy information.

I'm hoping that they get the final slot on the Gentilly Stage.  I'm trying to remember what time Kings of Leon played last year.

My last few trips down there, I've had the good fortune of running into this event's organizer.  I'm heading down next month and hope that I will see him so that I can beg for information.   :)

This is what Sass has always told me as well, and it makes the whole thing even more tempting.

What do you think the odds are of MMJ playing a late night set after the fest?  I poked around your friend's site a bit to try to get an idea of which acts might play aftershows, and it seems like some of the bigger names did in years past.

(The site is great, btw...thanks for posting!)

Right now, I'm dreaming of a Gov't Mule/MMJ double-bill at the (dreaded CAC) with the Dirty Dozen horns.   :)

I hope that they are able to play a night show somewhere -- or that maybe JJ will pop into Pres. Hall to sing a tune or two on a night when I'm there.  ;)  But, right now, there's no way to know for sure, unfortunately.

Maybe Superfly (they do B-roo and usually run a solid group of shows during the fest) will work some magic for us!

Sassbox

Gah! I think I saw Quint Davis about 5x this year. Had I only known, I could have prodded him for information!
God sure baked a lot of fruitcake, baby.

QuoteGot to work today and knew that it was going to be a crazy Monday.  So, I cued up 54 MMJ tunes on my Ipod -- mostly live stuff that I've downloaded but haven't bothered to rename properly and got through the day.  Followed it up with a bunch of Morphine (man, I miss that band.)

Had to run for the bus to get home, but I made it. Got a seat and thought to myself that all I really need is to just be outdoors dancing in a field listening to MMJ.

I get home, eat some dinner, and then get a text about MMJ playing my favorite event, the New Orleans Jazz Fest.  And, another friend of mine who's in the know has confirmed that other dates are scheduled...

I am just so ridiculously happy right now...I wish I could share this feeling... :)

Good grief...I posted this in December.  Still ridiculously happy though. It's been a long time coming, but I am on my way to the airport now.   :)

If you're going to Jazz Fest too, I'll be there.  I'll be the really tall chick.  Say hello and have a blast!!!

Happy Jazz Fest!!
