I am listening to the concert right now.  I am stoked for the St Aug show.  If they replaced Steam Engine for Highly Suspicious it would be my dream set list.
Pops, Langerado, Lollapalooza, RCMH, Miami Beach, MSG, St Aug, T5.

My Monkey Friend

i hope the friends again song song sounds nothing like two halves (someone said doo wop beat). two halves is the only MMJ song ever i dont like.

i wonder how long they will play at jazzfest?

Word to that!   (actually for me, it'd be replace Thank You Too for Steam Engine, but close enough - just get steam engine in there).

They will play for about 1.5 hours at Jazzfest.

I often say Two Halves and Remnants are the only two MMJ songs I don't like !

QuotePretty sure there was just one new song ("Friends Again") and the rest were covers...there wasn't anything I didn't recognize before that.

chode, I can't listen to your links since I'm posting from my phone, but does either of those songs have a chorus that goes "let's be friends again"? I'm totally on the hunt to figure out if that was a new tune...I think it could be, especially since it was sandwiched in the middle of the main set.

Can't wait for someone to come drop some knowledge on us!

New OBH opener was very, very cool.   :)

PHJB was absolutely amazing.  I wanted to dance and dance and dance.  DO NOT MISS THEM if you're going to any of these shows!

One of the best Dondantes I remember seeing in a long time.

I don't think the setlists will be all that similar from night to night, but what do I know.

Everyone looked excited to be back - Jim and Patrick in particular were wearing big grins all night.

I'll listen again in a few. I think Friends Again would be a stretch since I doubt they're covering Martin Sexton (unless they're huge fans of him, based on Lala that song just came out) and the Janis Ian song is old, and I can see the band doing it, but it's not really doo-woppy.

I'm gonna stream the archive too and do a comparison.

The other songs I'm sure are New Orleans traditionals, which is not a bad thing at all and I can't wait to hear them.

Also, though I would have loved to have Dancefloors, Steam Engine, or War Begun, complaining would be like saying I only got 7 slices of bacon on my bacon sandwhich, instead of 8.

WOW just listened to the MMJ version of Losin' Yo Head -- that song was meant to be a Jacket jam.  I thought so from the first time I heard it.  I hope I get it in St. Aug.  They make is sound so much tighter than MOF.

Mother In Law was written and produced by Allen Touissaint.

So to summarize so far I have this...

Friends Again (????Original)
Move On Up (Curtis Mayfield)
Mother In Law (Allen Touissaint)
Carnival Time (Al Johnson)
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

walterfredo

wow, that is a ton of covers for them to play in one show.  Sounds like it was  fun night.

moses malone

i usually leave every mmj show thinking "wow, dondante is an amazing song."  but like someone mentioned, last night was probably the best of the several versions i've seen.

new song (something about friends), was about on par some of the more generic rock numbers on EU, certainly not bad but nothing mind blowing.

i'm still smiling at the thought of jim getting down on touch me pt 1 and wordless chorus with the nintendo pistol.

overall the guys seemed in great spirits and sounded great too.  good times.

and the alabama theatre is a treat.  jim told some story about "getting all fucked up" all night and going on the roof of somewhere, although i dont know if he was talking about that theatre or what he was actualy talking about.

For those that don't know Allen Toussaint. Seriously check out Southern Nights it is one of the best soul funk albums ever.

Did you see him on Austin City Limits a couple months ago?   He's still got it.

Where2Begin

Oh man I wish I could listen to last night's show at work today :(

I agree with the comments about 2 Halves...although I have one other MMJ song I dont like, and that's Off The Record. I just don't dig that reggae beat...although I love Phone Went West, so what do I know?

I hope hope hope we get a Steam Engine at the Cary show. And a Where to Begin, and Oh! Sweet Nuthin would be nice. I don't know how I'm going to get any work done over the next week, I'm so excited! ;D
Always startin' over but somehow I always know where to begin.

As far as I can tell, Friends Again is not a cover, meaning it's NEW

I'll still keep digging

Could these be the two songs Jim did with the PHFB?

-Louisiana Fairytale (Mitchell Parish, Haven Gillespie and Fred Coots)
-Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone (Bill Withers)  (This a guess based on someone posting "She's Gone"

I'd say yes on LA Fairytale, but that was not Ain't No Sunshine.

I had a scare, I thought it might be this Springsteen Song (Friends Again (Skin to Skin)), but it's not

I went to the taping. That is the only taping I have been to. I had the opportunity to meet and talk to him at last years Jazzfest. He is a great guy!
