Ok, so ive been reading alot of post on here about this mini tour being somewhat dissapointing. some are feeling let down by the performance, and many are having issues with rude and obnoxious fans. I am attending the show in cary next week and after reading said posts I am concerned about what to expect. in my opinion, more and more people are growing to like MMJ and the crowds are getting bigger. this came to my attention at the MSG show on new years. the show was spectacular, however during softer songs i.e. golden, it was hard to drown out the socializing to hear the music. several beers were spilled on me and my friends, and a guy even threw up on my shoulder. I noticed alot of fraternity guys there pounding beers, fighting, texting, etc... my question is, do you guys think that MMJ shows are becoming more of a socializing event almost compared to that at dave matthews band show? I use to enjoy going to DMB shows way back when, but have stopped going because its nothing but a glorified frat party. I pray this does not happen to MMJ. I am in no way at all comparing the bands, but the crowds are becoming similar. just my opinion, please add. Thanks -Trey

trey, I have seen the Jacket 14x over the past 7 years and the show in Nashville was not disappointing. I was also able to block out all the "distractions" and focus on the music and the show. If I sat there and sent out negative vibes to all the people losing their minds or not paying attention or throwing glowsticks, etc... then I am toast. I focus on the music, move with the energy, add my own positive energy to the crowd and let it all flow through me. In the end, I leave satisifed and humming MMJ tunes for the next few days.

It is what it is.  :)

awesome attitude to have, thanks!

Yeah, show yesterday was a blast. Crowd shouldn't be a worry. Let people enjoy how they choose to enjoy. Plus, if you get front row you don't have to worry about other people. Set lists could be a little more varied, but what are you gonna do? Songs w/ PHJB are incredible. Enjoy the ride. It's a lot better to talk about small issues w/ the ongoing shows than to speculate about when they will be going on tour again.

just watched some video from Nashville. and am wondering how anyone can be dissapointed with an opener like that. the opening alone was worth the ticket price

This is an older demographic than DMB's without a fucking doubt.  The young kids will always fuck shit up, that's what minor's do.

You can't let them beat you. Don't let them win. It's your duty to bring the positive energy to the show.

Positive energy can be channeled into 20 cock punches - they're not mutually exclusive.

Don't let them win. They're not loyal fans, if we abandon the band, then they've got less food because they feed on our energy. You don't want more starving artists, do you?

The frat boys will move on as soon as the next Dane Cook emerges and Kings of Leon make another derivative of "Use Somebody"

Besides, history only remembers the good fans. If we all abandon, then the good fans can't be remembered. I'm sure there were crowds of douches at the Last Waltz, Roxy & Elsewhere, and Fillmores on both coasts. No one remembers the shows for the shitty fans, it's the band thanking the loyal diehards that get immortalized.

So true!I was at the Nashville show and I'm happy to say, still enjoying the post show groove four days later.

I could've done without the arrogant prick standing next to me texting on his iphone all night and seeing Jim smacked in the face with glow sticks but when I think back all I see is my favorite band rocking out.Looking back I see Jim with his cape on and back to the crowd slightly bent over and grooving right along with the fans.I see the PHJB jammin' with the boys during "Highly Suspicious" and the few rows of fans in front of me moving to the sounds.Everything The Jacket brings to a show is still there, fully intact. The loyal fanbase is still evident and as strong as ever. Those few little pricks who infiltrated the goodness are merely  tiny ants on the floor of the Taj Mahal.Pay them no mind and carry on fellow Jacketeers, the ROCK is alive and well! :D

The ATL show seemed to be like a big Frat party, at least in the area we were located.  There were a handful of true fans and the rest were the casual fans that were too busy socializing to pay attention to the show and people were constantly walking in front of you.  The show was good overall, but paled in comparison to the other shows I have been to which include the Filmore in SF and Radio City's epic set.  No way am I losing faith in the band, its just when you haven't seen them in so long I was wanting a killer show.

If you are in a GA area and hate the people around you I recommend moving away from them. Unfortunately you can't control how other people enjoy the show but you can control how much you enjoy it. The worst thing you can do if you are pissed at people around you is stay there and ruin your own experience.

I went to atlanta, and i'll say this....

You know as far as the crowd goes, I can't really complain too much... that just comes and goes... but what i can complain about is the lack of diversity in the setlist. not one song off of at dawn or tennessee fire. three off it still moves and one nice little gem in  where to begin...

I hate being that guy, but come on. i understand you have to continually experiment with albums, but at the shows throw us older fans a bone for christ's sake. i believe it is quite lazy and lame to rely on the same setlist as well every show.

Ya'll are all right saying that we should just get over it and let them go the way their going, but i dont have to quietly... this band has meant way too much to me over the years to see this.

How does mmj play a show without some of the following?

at dawn
STEAM ENGINE
phone went west
lowdown
evelyn
the bear
the way that he sings
i will sing you songs

just my .02 cents

carry on.
what does it mean to feel? millions of dreams come real
a feelin' in my soul i'd never felt before... mmm...

I completely agree - I've been mildly bitchin' here and there in a few threads - haven't been to my show yet (Sat) so don't want to let loose with both barrels prematurely.   I also am trying hard to avoid being "that guy".

Shocking to me that with no new album, they would tour with a setlist LESS diverse than the one when I saw them on the EU tour in 08.

mahg33ta

ps. that was 2.5 songs off ISM, not 3  ;)

LowDownLuvDawg

i agree... i saw basically the same set 3 nights B ham Nashvegas and Jazzfest... Im bummed too because Two Tone was quoted in the AL Chronicle that they were going to "dust off some oldies" with that said I was expecting at least a bear.

Still STELLAR shows though.

However I think touring with the pres hall band has restricted them to a structured setlist if that makes any sense.  If i could have gotten into pres hall on saturday i would have seen at dawn knot comes loose dondante and wonderful the way i feel but whatever.

As far as the drunk fans... seriously people need to get over this...it happens at every concert you go to. I'm 24 and I live in New Orleans, if you got problems with drunk fans come to Tipitina's for a show that doesn't start til 11pm with Ms Maes a couple blocks down the street.  Some older "heads" are complaining about the youngins ruining their experiences at these shows, grow up kids are getting rowdy while they are young and seeing Jacket.  Does any more need to be said??? Whatever though complain all you want, I recommend buying a couple beers and getting over it rather than tripping over some frat dudes while Carl rips a mean sax solo over Dondante.

That's my rant. Its been a good 5 to 6 days :D  I've seen Jacket 3 times The Black Crowes, Pres hall with Yim, The Allman Bros, Levon Helm, and I just got off a riverboat cruise down the Miss. with Claypool 10 hours ago ;D im faded time to go back to reality
