I'm not complaining about the kids at all...I'm complaining about the 35 yo accountant behind me who wouldn't shut up during Golden and couldn't hold his liquor.   ;D

Quotetrey, I have seen the Jacket 14x over the past 7 years and the show in Nashville was not disappointing. I was also able to block out all the "distractions" and focus on the music and the show. If I sat there and sent out negative vibes to all the people losing their minds or not paying attention or throwing glowsticks, etc... then I am toast. I focus on the music, move with the energy, add my own positive energy to the crowd and let it all flow through me. In the end, I leave satisifed and humming MMJ tunes for the next few days.

It is what it is.  :)

I agree, Tracy...even if the circumstances are less than ideal, a Jacket show can really never be a disappointment.  I also try to get into that "zone" where I can focus on the music - and most of the time I can, because the music is that powerful - but damn if the distractions didn't get the best of me in Nashville.

Not a huge fan of the similar setlists either.  I figured they had a year off, so it's not too crazy to think that maybe they focused on being able to play a certain number of songs very well.  The show at the AL Theater, i noticed about 45 seconds into OBH that the boys were not rusty at all.  Which was very impressive.  So, maybe that's why we've been getting similar setlists.   Otherwise, they have 5 albums proper, several eps, & 2 b-side albums to pull songs from so i don't really see the need for the same setlist every night.
The fact that the setlists cull most of their songs from Z and Evil Urges is just sad.  I'm sorry, but the weakest songs are on Evil Urges.
My biggest letdown was ending a show with a cover or 3.  I'm all about covers when the time is right, but the Jacket has enough songs that covers hardly ever need to be played.  At least make the last song an original.  And i know it's been for the benefit of PHJB, but those guys can play along with more than 4 of MMJ's tunes.  Dancefloors? Phone Went West? They Ran? Dear Wife?
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo?
You need it.  That's for sure.

I don't want to misquote, but I talked to Tommy after the Nashville show and asked him about this tour..That it seemed short, ect.. He basically said it was to warm back up and that they were going to head into the studio very soon.

That could explain a bit about the setlist. They aren't necessarily playing to bring out all the old tunes, but to get back into "musical shape" for the studio.. At least what is what I got from him.. COULD be wrong..?..

Yeah, I think theyre playing those covers bc of PHJB, but I remember Jim being quoted in 08 or 09 saying that they dont really play covers unless its a set at a festival or NYE show or something because they want the show to be a MMJ experience. I'll take Move On Up, but after that give me some originals to finish off the show.

I havent looked at setlists since the 2nd show, so Im still holding up hope they switch it up a little by the time MPP comes around.

honestly I do not care what they play, I just want to see good energy from both the band and the crowd, good weather, no band members getting hit with projectiles, and no falling off the stage for Jim! -Trey

QuoteThe ATL show seemed to be like a big Frat party, at least in the area we were located.  There were a handful of true fans and the rest were the casual fans that were too busy socializing to pay attention to the show and people were constantly walking in front of you.  The show was good overall, but paled in comparison to the other shows I have been to which include the Filmore in SF and Radio City's epic set.  No way am I losing faith in the band, its just when you haven't seen them in so long I was wanting a killer show.
If you are in a GA area and hate the people around you I recommend moving away from them. Unfortunately you can't control how other people enjoy the show but you can control how much you enjoy it. The worst thing you can do if you are pissed at people around you is stay there and ruin your own experience.

Yeah unfortunately we were in the seated area which constitued the vast majority of the complex.  I saw some GA areas, but those were pretty far back.  It didn't ruin our experience, as my sister-in-law loved the show (it was her first), and my wife felt the same way.  I just being picky I guess.

+1, my thoughts exactly.  Maybe even throw in a little Cobra or something else from an EP.

QuoteYou can't let them beat you. Don't let them win. It's your duty to bring the positive energy to the show.

Don't let them win. They're not loyal fans, if we abandon the band, then they've got less food because they feed on our energy.

As Jim said in Nashville, "You guys are hun-gry and you feeed.  You're
hun-gry and you feeed.  You're hun-gry......and you feeeed."

I always figured they never played much off of TTF & At Dawn because Johnny played a big part in the creation of those songs.  I suppose It Still Moves is the exception since that seems to be the year/tour Carl/Bo joined.  But I always figured this line up preferred Z/Evil Urges songs simply for the fact that they are a collection of songs the 5 of the current members wrote together, unlike the earlier albums.

I'm with everybody for the most part though, they have too many great songs, they need to mix it up come summer tour.  Glad they are back.  The ATL show seemed a little sleepy compared to 4/20.

While I rarely think of Sticky as a "wise man ;) ," I think he may have something here...

And I completely agree that the summer tour should have many different things in store.

Street cred is for shit, man. MMJ forum cred is worth its weight in gold, and "wisdom" will always be overrated.
