So I was really excited for there next tour to be announced only come to find out they're doing only a handful of shows, and not coming back to Detroit.

I haven't read up on it much, so forgive me if its been mentioned or asked before, but is this just a mini-tour basically? Does this mean they have more dates planned or are going to be planned? It just seems strange they're only playing for like 2 weeks.

at this point we can only speculate.  this tour seems like a venue capacity test for the summer.

I think Sticky hit it on the head, I know last time through DC they played smaller venues like Constitution Hall and now they are trying to see if they can draw bigger places like MPP and such.  Hopefully they will draw well and do a major tour in the late summer/fall time frame.

....but not draw well enough to continue to play places like Merriweather Post!  I know, that sounded a bit bad and I'm certainly not hoping for them to draw poorly, but I'm all for the smaller venues (although MSG was unreal).  I'm out west and Merriweather was the only show that I could have swung logistically, but in the end decided I didn't want to go see them in a large amp. with the place only 1/3 full.  Bands seem to feed off a full venue....and hate to say, that place is going to be empty.  I'm sure they will still crush it though!  Anyhoo....no big amphitheatres please!

it'll be fuller than you expect, as it's the closest show for people in the northeast to go see. I know like 15 people coming from northeast PA alone. And that's just people I know personally.

I agree with Ghosts. I have a friend coming in from Dallas for that show. I know lots of folks who are traveling for the show.

I think there are a little over 5,000 seats under the roof, but total capacity is around 19,000. Don't know that it'll be a sellout, but I expect a big crowd.
God sure baked a lot of fruitcake, baby.

I think it will be a strong showing, but 19, 000 is probably not realistic at this point.  I think the Pavillion seats will be full or close to full and there will be a decent number of people in the lawn.

Im kind of on walfredo's side on this one, but I think there will be a good crowd. I just checked ticketfly, and tried to pull a pair of pavs and could still get 2 right centers in MM. Considering that, it's hard to judge how much theyll fill MPP, although as the show gets closer, I would assume they sell a lot more tickets.

Then again, if you cant really see the stage from the lawn, I guess that means you cant really see the lawn from the stage so MMJ will probably assume its a sellout and RTFO

The lawn will be packed the pavilion will fill in as it gets closer.  most people wait last minute for a show like MMJ.  the people in those last section will most likely be new fans or old fans who didn't know about the dates until way late.

I agree. The good tickets went pretty much instantly for this one. There are a few pavilion tickets left... but most people buying tickets now probably just want to get lawn tickets and sit with a big group of their friends. I know whenever I got lawn tickets to MPP or Nissan Pavilion shows in the past, I'd usually just pick up a ticket the day or two before the gig.

MPP will be pretty full. The lawn might not be 100% full.... but it's going to be a nice size crowd.

I'm driving down from NYC for it!

I wouldn't underestimate the size of the Merriweather attendance - I too think this is going to be a pretty big convergence point.

Second, the lawns are sprawling - a sell-out means lots of people sitting in bad locations.    I think it will be a success if the pavillion is full.   The pavilion holds about 5000.   As of right now, I estimate that 3300 seats have been sold in the pavilion.   That's pretty good for early March.  Within the core (excluding the two wings), I estimate 3000 out of 3700 seats gone.

Lastly, here's the attendance figures for 03 and 04 (the most recent I could find).    Only 4 shows sold out - DMB, Chesney, The Dead, and Radio Head... so let's not use that as the standard for success.    The show can be a financial success with sales in the 3000-5000 range and they will certainly hit that IMO.

LOL - I saw that too - I wonder if it were cancelled or something.   A few of the others surprised me too - only 3k for Kid Rock - not my thing these days, but I thought he was more popular than that...

I was on Kid Rock tour back in '04, and that MPP show was SICK! Second set Baw witta Baw>that song he sings with Sheryl Crow>Cowboy. EPIC!!! The MPP crowd was hella small, so it was a real intimate show. It was so intimate I cried.

Yeah, it definitely looks like they are going up a notch in terms of venue size.  Living in Austin, this has me very worried if/when they possibly play here this tour.

Sadly, the two venues that would be on the next tier in terms of capacity above Stubb's are Austin Music Hall (the worst place to see a concert on the planet) and that god-awful new hockey arena up in god-forsaken Cedar Park.  Maybe they'll end up out at the new Backyard if they have indeed outgrown Stubb's.

Obviously, I'll take anything I can get and will no doubt be there no matter where they play with a huge grin on my face...... but please, please, please just don't let it be Austin Music Hall or in Cedar Park.

Sticky Icky Green Stuff

I really am not worried at all about the jacket getting big.  They could easily sell out all these shows if they promote them right.  they need to do something to get out to the masses right now.  stir the pot so to speak.

I'm starting to really jonez for some tour dates.  This cannot possibly be it can it?  It's nearly May....give us some love for chrisake!

Do you think we'll hear more after Columbus?  I wonder if they'll fill in the gap between Sasquatch and Mile High.
