Couldn't find a thread on the next stop for the boys.  I'm not going, but figured we need a place to hear all about it.

Who's going?

I will be there +3.

If anyone is on the fence without tix, I was just foolin' on Ticketmaster for fun, and pulled some ridiculous seats - like section 2, row L - basically best in house.    Part of me wanted to try and sell mine and buy these, but too much hassle in too short time.   But I hope someone deserving snatches them up.

Can't wait to begin my run of shows, hopefully the Comcast Center doesn't totally suck for once and Petty plays a song or two with the boys...

Kenny76

I'll be there!  These two shows are what I've been the most excited for this summer.  I'm putting my ticket for tomorrow night's show in my car right now so I can't forget it :)

NOT IN COMPLETE ORDER! Opened to an empty house....it was weird but they were on fire. Some guy behind me and my 3 friends comes  in 3/4 through the set and asked us to sit down while we were rockin' out and literally there were open seats as far as the eye could see, even down his own section...We refused and this 40 yr old man told an usher on us....for standing and dancing at rock concert!....the usher obviously thought this was funny cause when he and his wife came back after complaining and taddling to her for 20 minutes(!), he moved his seat. But i digress
Tonight I want to celebrate with you
Gideon

Mahgeetah!
Crcuital
Golden

Wow...I'm going Saturday and that's more than I expected.  How long did they play?  60-75 minutes?

wolof7

they played a solid 75, it was a long opening set as far as openers go and as a long-time jacket fan, I was pleased with the time they played (I didn't feel like I needed more, although another hour is the usu. Jacket-fare). If you go into it knowing its not going to be a crowded, communal face-melting and just enjoy it, all the elements will be there for ya if you catch my drift.

I am going tomorrow night.  What time did the boys hit the stage??

classicrocker623

They went on at 7:00 SHARP, really regretted pounding that last beer at 6:55 when I should have been making my way to the entrance (since when do bands go on when they're actually supposed to?).  My buddy and I started sprinting when we heard the omnichord riff to "Tonight I Want to Celebrate With You."

THE SHOW WAS INCREDIBLE.  The boys are as tight as ever and, as usual, there was just a wall of incredible sound coming from the stage.  My buddy and I had lawn seats but managed to make it past the infamous Comcast Center Gestapo to get some good seats for MMJ's set.

Setlist totally took me by surprise, which is part of the reason I love seeing this band so much.  First time hearing "I Will Sing You Songs" and it blew my mind.  I purposely refrained from listening to the youtube vid of "Circuital" so the first time I ever heard it would be live.  All I have to say is WOW.  If this is the direction they're going in, I'm even more excited to hear the new album.  The song had a total "Steam Engine" feel to it with the great slow build up and the lack of a traditional chorus.  WOW.

The only thing that sucked was the house was half empty and most of the old fogies there were sitting down.  I did manage to find a group of about six fellow Jacketeers who were rockin as hard as I was though and that made it a lot more enjoyable.  I honestly pity the people who were in the parking lot getting tanked during MMJ's incredible set.  I tried to tell everyone in the lot to get their asses inside to see the best live band in the world, but no one wanted to hear it.  No offense to Tom Petty (who I consider a musical legend), but the real show last night was over before his set even began.

Having said that, The Heartbreakers are one of the best bands in rock and roll.  Mike Campbell can shred like no other and at times, the band sounded quite similar to MMJ.  Petty played all of his best tunes (my highlight was "You Don't Know How it Feels) and some real gnarly rockers from his newest album.

I brought a first-timer with me and the electrifying performance made him decide to buy a ticket to the Holyoke show next Wednesday.  After that one, I'm hitting Philly with my Jacket crew.  Damn, I could not imagine a better way to spend these last few weeks of summer than nestled in the warm musical embrace of my favorite band in the world.  :D

DEmerson

I also was at the Thurs. 8/19 show and agree with some of the other comments about it was sad that the place was fairly empty early on.
MMJ did hit the stage at EXACTLY 7:00pm and played until about 8:10.
Set list (sorry if this is a repeat) but here it is:
Tonight I Want to Celebrate With You
Gideon
Mahgeeta
? - I didn't know this one, but a posted set list shows it as Circuital. JJ on acoustic.
Golden
I Will Sing To You
I'm Amazed
Smoking from Shooting
If You Touch Me I'll Scream (Pt 2)
Wordless Chorus
One Big Holiday

Very nice set from the band - great to hear a few from It Still Moves. I wish they did Dondante -oh well.
Comcast Center (formerly Great Woods) used to be a very cool place - last night though the security and cops were patrolling the parking lot like crazy and harrassing people. Bummer.
I was also surprised how young the audience was. I left before Petty for personal reasons - I was just there to see MMJ anyways.  Very solid show - there is no reason these guys are not more popular than say a Kings of Leon - although myabe they just haven't yet come up with the big hit radio song. Oh well - more MMJ for us!

wolof7

Petty was great last night. I've seen him 4 times and this certainly was the best by and far. Mike Campbell was crazy and should be exhalted into the pantheon of greatest guitarists. His solos are all unique but maintain that heartbreaker sound. The MOJO stuff was absolutely enthralling, rivetting, rocking and for me probably the Highlight.

it's funny how some people who go to these huge shows don't even care about music. Even some of my own friends who claim to love, know and self-appoint themselves authorities on music were planning their 'bathroom breaks' around mojo and were resitent to make it into MMJ bc it would cut into their 'lot time.' Most people ended up sitting for the MOJO stuff and it was by and far more rocking than any of the other stuff in the set. And granted I know people get old, and people love what they are familiar with, I just think I love music way more than them and I get a sense that most people on this board are the same way.
Oh, I will dine on honey dew And drink the Milk of Paradiseeeee

Hey all-  it's been mostly said already, but here's my 0.02
the place was EMPTY - at the start - I mean 95% empty.   I felt bad for the boys.   Like the earlier poster, I told anyone who would listen in the parking lot to get inside for the opener.  Most responded "who is the opener?"   7 pm start is a tough sell.

Most people that were there, and there weren't a lot, sat down during the set.   Blasphemy.   It was basically my crew and two other guys close to us into it.    There was no-one in my section in front of us yet, so it really felt like a private concert.     Yelling "Jimmy" got a few nods and smiles from the man himself so that was fun.

The band was ON - and I don't mean that in a preconceived fanboy kind of way.... I'd say so if I thought differently, but they were tight musically but loose emotionally, if that makes sense- were having fun clearly and rocked hard.   Last time in Boston they were tired IMO.   Setlist was great (need to review my contest for a winner).     They ended at 8:09 so they could have squeezed in another (never enough right?) but I knew OBH was gonna be it.

Great great night.   Oh, and Tom Petty played.    Was hoping for a Jimmy sighting during his set but, alas no.   From reading the Petty board, seems like they play the exact same set every night- 18 songs, 1 hr 40 mins.   Ho hum.     It was fun for sure, and everyone loves a good sing-along, but coming after the best live band in the world, felt like a power outage.
