... Terminal 5 is NOT "a smaller club"

It is a freakin' airplane hangar with 500 foot ceilings

seems to me if this is a huge success a West Coast repeat's not out of the question.   Don't be bitter- hope for it to succeed!!

QuoteWhere's the dissent? Am I the only person here not from the NE? The idea is un-fucking-believable, but it makes me highly su-motherfuckin'-spicious. Was greater thought not placed towards a more "neutral" site? Besides selling everything I own, which I saw given as advice on an earlier page, me and many other hardcore west and southern fans are sort of left out.

If not somewhere more central in the U.S., then is there some reason this couldn't be done multiple times?

I mean this is the most epic of everything epic I've ever imagined(short of them joining the stage with Geddy, Neil, and Alex). I realize I'm just being a sore loser, but why are they doing this to me?   :'(

Doing it multiple times would kind of take away from the epic proportions of it, IMHO

welcome!

i'm sure they'll play covers, maybe have guests? some MOF...anything could happen

do you really train monkeys? fun job

Haha....no I don't really train monkeys. I'm 23 and have had this as a screen name since I was in my early teens......made it for no apparent reason and stuck with it. That's a common question though.

I'd love to see some guests or other songs or something. I mean I'm sure they can stretch some songs and jam it out but I'd like to see at least 2 hours of Jacket per show.

?   :'(

Not sure what their reasoning is. I know I was upset that there weren't many NY dates for the initial tour announcement. The only close shows I saw were opening for Petty which is cool but not a full Jacket show. With these new dates then they seem to be showing more love to the northeast/NY area. I'm happy (selfishly) because I will get to see them (assuming I get tickets).

Maybe they'll do some other special things in the future in other areas.

not sure it makes much sense to have it centrally located..? in the midwest somewhere? where would you suggest that other than Louisville *similar to the DBT doing their Athens shows every year...? population density wise, it makes sense to have it in the northeast, that's where the people are, and they are more likely to travel..oh and it's NYC, even if you think the venue's subpar (it's a fine venue); everything becomes a little more 'epic' in NYC; just think having it in a neutral place would inconvenience a ton more people somewhat rather than a small number extremely..it's a trade off
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

they should play in a field where Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri borders all meet god damnit!!!  >:( :D

Hey itrain...I recognize you from Inforoo. Welcome :)

Didn't y'all read the press release? ;D ;)  It says they'll be performing each record in its entirety, along with whatever b-sides/outtakes/covers from that era in Jacket history.  I'm pretty psyched to see some Rocket Man, Dream A Little Dream of Me, Tyrone...   :D

And I hate to add griping to the griping, but man...I don't see how anyone can complain about them doing this. It's an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime thing!

Dissent?

Dude, chill. Something like 60% of the US population lives within a day's drive of NYC. I'd say that's pretty "neutral".

Agreed. They are incredibly generous to give the fans these shows.

If I were going, that might be what'd Id be most excited to hear actually...Rocket Man, Why Dont You Love, Devil's Peanut Butter, How Could I Know, I Wont Cry, Isobella with the White Umbrella, etc.

You lucky fuckers!!

Don't forget the EU and beyond night.  I'm sure we'll here some new jams.

Thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here....tho I feel like i've been here forever since I've lurked quite a while.  ;D

Oh....and the news about the B sides and other songs.....amazing. I'm now even more pumped for this set of shows. I wish I could do the whole 5 nights. This will be epic.

Exactly Penny.  I can't even go but I can't imagine a better place for them to do it (no idea about the venue, but I sure wouldn't be bitching about seeing them inside up close and personal).  New York City can't be beat, tis the center of the world.

As for all the other haters, who the fuck are you people? Do you even like my morning jacket?  These 5 shows could possibly be the most intense set of shows the Jacket has preformed to date.  We're already guaranteed songs that haven't been played in years and some that haven't been played ever.

Also assume they're going to be playing Cobra, How Do You Know, and a bunch of other shit off the EPs they've dropped over the years.  These shows are going to be insane no matter which you're at.

I can't go (except maybe the last show), but I can fantasize.  I'd like to see, as a consolation prize, a 6-disc BluRay boxed set.

My Morning Jacket
Five Nights
NYC 2010

One disc per show and one of extras.  And release a BluRay Okonokos w/Acoustic Chorale in the bonus features, while you're at it.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

I know New York makes it hard for people out west, but like was said above, its probably the best location for it.  There are only 3 other places I could see them doing this:  Louisville (obviously), Nashville (due to all sorts of ties the band has to the city), and San Fransisco (where they have done 3 night stands before).  The same gripes are going to be made about any place they chose to do this because so many people want to go, but New York is a good choice.  MMJ is New York big time these days.  I just hope and pray for some good live recordings, a live album or DVD, and that this isn't some sort of Last Waltz for the guys.  I don't think that it is, but it would be a hell of a way to go out if so.

manicfanatic

My head is still in a fucking daze since I found out yesterday.  This is going to be one monumentous event!!  Though, I don't think I am going to be able to swing 5 shows.  Definitely hitting ISM and probably Z.  Finally get my sister and her husband to see them, Z is the only album they really know; and it's about fucking time they see them. THANK YOU!!  THANK YOU!!  Guys for doing this!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

QuoteWhat's up guys and gals?

Long time lurker of these forums....been coming here for a few years to get info and stuff.....but now I felt compelled to join. The 5 night residency is awesome news. Just what I needed.

I'm looking to try and do the last three nights. It's just better for me financially and also schedule-wise.

What do you guys think will happen each night? Will they play ONLY the album they are supposed to or do you think we will possibly get a cover or two? Maybe an encore or something?

If they only play the albums....i'd imagine they'd have to stretch some songs out (not a hard task for MMJ) so that the concert lasts longer than 80 minutes.

can't wait. hope i don't get shut out when buying tix for the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday shows. I'd probably be down for sharing an apartment/hotel room as well. I live on Long Island but don't really want to pay $20 a night for train service.

Glad to be here. I plan on posting lots of MMJ love now that I signed up.
