I agree. If you got a few people it's cheaper to get a hotel in those locations and just bus in. Im still looking for a good place, just gotta get some cash together.

Hey guys, I know I'm late to this thread...but...

I'm a longtime lurker on this forum, and a diehard MMJ fan.

We're flying from CA for a few of the Terminal 5 shows (ISM and Evil Urges)

but we really wanted to see Z too!

anybody on here got two extra tickets? or know anyone?

Much appreciated guys. See ya at ISM and Evil Urges!

I just noticed that the week of these shows is also CMJ in NYC. There is going to be lots of shows to hit after these shows end and probably some day shows as well. I wish it was October.

Hey guys, desperately searching for 2 tickets to the Z show if anyone has any.  It would be much appreciated!  I'm coming up from Atlanta for the ISM and hopefully Z shows!!! ;D

Will pay cash or paypal.  You can reach my cell at 404-808-9930.  Brad.

I think tickets will get easier as the shows get nearer. I know i may have 1 extra to Z and Evil Urges.

Flights booked, apartment booked (5 blocks from the venue!), passport updated. On a plane 8 weeks from today...

And just when this trip couldn't get any better, it looks like Pearl Jam will be playing Bridge. So the difficult decision to miss the Evil Urges night is gonna end up alright...  So thats now MMJ, Neil Young and PJ over a 7 day period.  That dripping noise I hear is my brain melting out of my ear in anticipation...

56 days til lift off! :)
At my house, we call them uh-ohs.

If any of you have done CMJ before, I'd be curious if you have any tips or pointers.  I've done SXSW several times; is it sort of that same format?

Thanks in advance   :)

Let me know if something is already planned!

Never done SXSW or ACL but I interned at CMJ in 2005, helped with the band selection.

It is my impression you'll get a A LOT more college and indie bands than you would at SXSW or ACL, or at least there's a bit less of the "MMJ is playing and debuting new songs, so good luck getting in" type events. So in other words, there's a bit more crowd distribution across the entire marathon instead of super-hyped sets that everyone everywhere flocks to.

Keep your ear out for label showcases with surprise shows, and best of all, in my experience nothing ever really sells out in advance, but you need to get to certain buzzed/hyped shows early to get tix, especially if you don't have wristbands.

Of course, this could all have changed this year if they attract some super-huge headlining act.

ALady

That's good to know...thanks choder.

SXSW is pretty much all college/indie bands...I don't think I'd be able to make any of the "big" shows anyway due to the T5 shows, but I wouldn't mind checking out some smaller shows during the day or after T5.  Assuming there's gas left in the tank, that is!

I signed up for the CMJ mailing list, so we shall see...   :)

Not to contradict you but I feel the need to add some additional information here. I lived in NYC for 6 years and did CMJ every year. I now live in Austin and have been doing SXSW before I even moved here. CMJ is really like a smaller SXSW with a lot fewer bands playing. But the bands typically are of a similar level. The major problem with CMJ is that all of the venues in NYC are spread out so it is hard to get from one to another in time to see lots of sets. It is almost better to pick one or two shows per night.

A lot of showcase do in fact sell out at CMJ and are hard to get into. Everything at the Mercury Lounge will be tough to get into. Also I would suggest buying tickets to any show you might really want to see especially shows at the Bowery Ballroom. The Sub Pop showcase that used to be held there sold out almost every year.

My suggestion would be look for one or two shows you might want to try to hit after MMJ and then head to those. Most venues will end at 2am. IN the beginning of CMJ there were very few day parties but over the past few years they have started to add these. A great NYC resource for live music is brooklynvegan.com. He typically has a few day shows and all of them are typically worth seeing.

ALady

Grazie midwesterner.  Are the day shows free like they are at SXSW?

Also wondering if CMJ increases the likelihood of some special guests...

just got off the phone with patrick, word is these shows are going to be only "Okay".  He said they're feeling lazy and are going to phone it in.  each show is only going to be 45minutes, regardless of album length because of Terminals curfew.  NO ALCOHOL is allowed.  crazy shit going down.  I'll keep you updated as the news comes in.

I'll make sure to record all 45 minutes...so it will feel like your right there. ;)
