So the other week my band Murals played the audition night at Phoenix Hill Tavern. an hour before the show i'm walking around Phoenix Hill as I've never been in there before, cool place, and who should i see but Jim James himself. Well I went on my way and got ready to play our show and at the end of our first song who should walk in but Jim James and Patrick Hallahan. My brother had told them to check us out if they wanted and they came up for about 4 or 5 songs and then headed out. Pretty cool right? Well after the show I'm getting ready to leave and I walk out the back entrance and walk right past Jim so I say hey and start talking to him a bit. I'd seen him at Dick Sporting Goods when I worked there and he told me they were about to go to Colorado and start doing demos. Well i asked him how it went and he said it went well and that they were going to New York to start recording the new record. He also said he liked our stuff which was cool. So pretty cool night eh?

Excellent!  That's good stuff!  Thanks!
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

great story, bam:). very cool

AWESOME! Can't wait for the day that I bump into JJ. But everyday that I don't, it simply keeps the mystique alive.

Thanks for the story Bam Bam! Lucky dog.

Well this gives us an idea of how far along they are on the new stuff. If they have demos, how long do you think it will take to record the new album? Plenty of bands can do it in a couple weeks, and these new songs have been gestating for a long time now...A late 07 or early 08 release is suddenly looking like a possibility.  :D

they haven't even started recording yet.  late 07 is out of the question.  it usually takes 6 six months after they finish recording to mix the album, promote it, and then get it out. sorry to burst your bubble but it's gonna take a while. be patient.

nice story, bam.  thanks for sharing.  btw, what's your band's name? if you don't want to make it public send me a pm.

I think he mentioned the name of his band was Murals in his first post... :-/

And you're right, mixing and promotion probably will take a while. But if the band records quickly...we may see a big album promotion tour!  :) I personally wouldn't be surprised if we see a tour announcement in November, as JJ's idea of "album promotion" seems to consist of lots of tour dates.

That's just wonderful!  How cool for you and your band.

Sounds like the record will be out in 2008 -- something to look foward too!

And may I echo aMD and ask for your band info- do you have a myspace page or anything?

But seein you feels good, and its always understood.

Looks like Kory has taken care of things for me. Thanks man. Yeah it was pretty cool having them listen to us. Jim said they were there watching some of their friends open for a band that had a member from drive by truckers, can't remember the name. Twas pretty cool though.

Jason Isbell played the Ville a few nights ago, I believe. Maybe a week or two. That's probably who they were talking about.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I want a report from you. Also, I want a report on Sons of Roswell.

Hot Damn!!!!

-After "Decoration Day" the crowd went totally ape shit....FOR GOOD REASON!!!!
-They played "Psycho Killer" and "Jailbreak"   :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
-During "Danko" (with violin...beautiful...and damn was she was hot) I felt at home.  That might be one of the best complements you can give a songwriter.
-"Dress Blues" wripped my heart out.  Jason writes the songs that reach deep down in your stomach and just twist you.  I love that guys heart.
-"God Damn Lonely Love" the other guitar player in this band knows what the fuck he's doing.
-I had a new take on songs like "GD Lonely love" after learning about Jason's divorce and it made it even more gut wrenching.
-I was so proud of Jason for doing a solo album and playing this tour.  He's a GREAT songwritter.  He found a GREAT band and they Brought IT Tonight.

I had my eyes closed during quite a bit of this show.....that's a good thing!!!!
There's Still Time.........
