So if I do end up finding tickets, btw I'm looking still so if anybody has anything please respond here. But anyways, how much money would you say would be a good amount to bring to new york. Also, what's the best option for sleep arrangements? is anybody that lives in new york offering to accomodate people?

This all depends on where you're staying. Subways aren't expensive, but they can add up. If you're commuting from outside the city you'll pay a lot more for mass transit and/or parking

Over all, Manhattan isn't AS expensive as some people make it out to be if you know where to look. Though I'm assuming beers at the venue will run at least $5/6 per.

Im just bringing my tickets, money for the crashpad, and then plan on selling my body during the afternoons to afford paying for all my booze, food, gas, and other expenses at night.

It should be noted that when I interned for free in the City I survived on a diet of Zaro's cookies and street pretzels.

You cant park on the streets?  :-/

After I saw you saw youre taking a train, I might consider that, but Im not sure if I'll be able to find one going from here to NYC or not.

Maybe Ill go greyhound if parking is that expensive  :(

If you're driving into the city, there is street parking near venue, but it's kind of a weird neighborhood, so there are crazy rules... make sure you read the signs!  Also, use this website to scout out the closest cheapest paid parking for the times you will be there... this is an excellent  and reliable website I use often:  http://nyc.bestparking.com/index.php

Good Luck!

Capt--DO NOT DRIVE if you can help it....take amtrak, fly..or..

why don't you take MEGABUS? I've taken this to Boston and know a bunch of others who've taken it. It's pretty good and cheap. It'll dump you off right at Penn Station..$75 round trip..8 hours..many of the buses are doubledecker and comfortable. this goes to/from state college, too..here from Pittsburgh

holy shitballs!  :o

1) What is Megabus' position on flasks?

2) Can you pick me up from the station?  ;)

Before we had kids (and all the stuff that comes with them) we would sometimes park in Stamford, CT and take the train in. This allowed us to drive most of the way and not have to pay too much for parking.

I would definitely recommend the Megabus. It's pretty popular in the northeast. Do NOT bring your car if you don't have to. Parking is $ and driving into the city is a nightmare, tunnels, bridges, cab drivers who will run you off the road, pedestrians jetting out onto the street (we are huge jay walkers!)

As for flasks and all that, there's no security, you can take whatever you want. You can drink on trains, too. You can't be falling out of your seat drunk, but they check your ticket when you get on the bus, nothing else.

When they dump you off at Penn Station, you'll be on 33rd Street, it's gonna be easier than you think. If you're staying in that apt, you need to go (I think?) 15 blocks. You can probably walk it or jump in a cab. If you're coming in Sun, I won't be back in town, but if you're coming in Mon, I'm sure me or someone else can meet you.

i'm holding in my hands an extra set of 5 tickets to the terminal 5 shows. i bought 2 5-night passes back in june not knowing if a family member or friend would be able to make it or not, and i'm looking to get rid of them at face value. i too like many ppl am making the trek into NYC just wingin' it, but my case is interesting as i will be on the beginning of my transfer vacation and flying all the way in from sasebo, japan. i've never been to NYC and would prefer to stay in the most convenient accomidations possible, however i know it would cost a fortune on my own to do that.

I might be biased since I grew up in the area and have been driving into the city for years, but I really don't think it's that bad.  You can definately find parking if you put the effort in.  And the actual driving isn't that scary.  Or maybe I'm just a psychomaniac driver.  Hmm.

last time I was in the States (2000) our dollar was at $0.50 which made things a bit expensive.  This time our dollar is at $0.97 which makes things kinda more affordable.

I'm bringing enough cash to hit as many record stores in New York as possible...
