I've gotta say that I couldn't agree more with Jim making the point that we are becoming more and more disconnected now that everything and everyone depend on computer technology. I understand that its really difficult not to use the ipads and cell phones when they're so constantly being fed to us. I find it truthful that we are being pushed away from our roots. Maybe its just a fad that will fade out like all other trends.:/

Mm well don't you guys agree? I would definitely prefer doing something else every night with my significant other than us both sitting around with our eyes glued to our cellular devices. I hear its bad on the eyes.

Hey Million I would love to pick your brain at some point about the school garden. I am a NYC gardener (pent house work with a few veggies) We are looking at possibly starting a roof garden with school here. I'm sure you have some great insight!

QuotePsssht....Get to the important part.

I heard Jim was wearing glasses.

(talk about girl boners)

oh yeah, and Jim was wearing glasses.

woodnymph, I run a small school garden for my school.  It's only one and half years old.  We have plans to expand.  I've been lucky enough to get the garden built and maintained this whole time from parent donations alone and haven't written a grant yet.  I tend it over the summer and have a day every week kids from school or the community can come and help me in the garden.  They usually get to take home veggies and run through the sprinklers, which they love.  It's been great to watch the way this small garden has greatly affected our students.  They are becoming reconnected to their food. Many kids have fallen in love with veggies they may not have even tried before because of the garden. We made a baby spinach salad from the veggies we grew. When we planted the seeds only a handful of students claimed to like spinach. After tending to, harvesting, and eating the spinach fresh from our own garden there were only one or two who claimed to not like spinach.  The garden is part of the Kentucky School Garden network who presented at the conference last night.  Their mission is to have a school garden in every school in the state.  After seeing the effects of my garden I'm 100% on board with them.
