For those of you who were at both like me, which one did you like better, and why?

Its a really hard question for me but I would have to go with 08 because of Tyrone, the EPIC One Big Holiday and of coarse Zack Galifinakis.

musically, 06 was tighter.

for the spectacle and overall experience, i'm not sure anything can touch 08.
Is there a doctor in the house tonight?

I forgot all about that!  ;D

What about the new up and comer joining the boys on stage. Although I wasn't at 06, I'd say 08 was one of my least favorite Jacket shows. But any Jacket show is a good time, don't get me wrong.

06 hands down.  However, I was not at either.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Sweet Nothing

Was at both 06 and 08 roo but only caught their 08 set which was very good, read the reviews on the site in 06 and believed they played in "the other tent" and remember board members saying that show was so great that they should name "the other tent" the My Morning Jacket tent!  Wish i caught the 06 show because i was there just not at their show, big mistake!  So i can only judge how good the 08 set was and it was fabulous!  When jim came out with that hat and robe with the funk music to kick off the second set. ;D

i dont think anything could ever top the raw energy of the 2004 'roo.. also i think it's one of the best if not the best MMJ soundboard recording

'06. One of the best nights of my life.

Penny Lane

2006 musically was better (or tighter as someone said before) but 2008 overall experience was better (due to randomly meeting Ghosts, Ghostess, and Ewok for the first time, and the rain, etc)

2005--was my favorite because that was my first Jacket show. ..
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

not entirely on point but bonnaroo 2003 was my 1st listen to MMJ  :)

I was not at the '08 show, so I cannot comment on the original purpose of the post.
However, the '06 show has a special place in my heart because it was the first time that I saw MMJ live.
My friend and I left Tom Petty a bit early after meeting a guy with a neon glowing/blinking pacifier in his mouth.  We spent a few minutes with him and then stumbled over to the tent where MMJ was about to play.
The specifics of the next 3+ hours are kinda blurry, but I just remember standing there and thinking, "holy cow.  this is the best thing ever."
From that moment on I was hooked.

I walked away from both saying it was head-and-shoulders the best concert I've ever seen. Very, very different shows, hard to compare. Also, the MMJ of '06 was a much darker, more psychedelic creature than the funk/soul Evil Urges tour Jacket of '08. Almost impossible to compare. Musically, probably would slightly lean towards '06. As far as the experience of watching the band harness, channel and ultimately control the weather into the energy of the performance, '08 was slightly more memorable. Also, Kirk Hammett coming out for OBH is something I'll never forget. Was already convinced by set break that we were seeing something legendary. But those lights in '06 in that tent really added to the mystique of the show...

Can't really lose with either. Would rather relive '06 again simply b/c I don't wanna get walking pneumonia from the 4 hours of rain in '08.

my friend was tripping balls for that 05 set.  it was hilarious the huge bug was creeping him the fuck out.  such a fun time.  04 was pretty legendary but I haven't got to see them do a late night set at the roo yet.

05 was my first jacket show... it was awesome.

06 was one of the best shows i've ever seen anyone play... EVER.

08 was a blast, it was hilarious and special, but 06 was probably the best show that MMJ will ever play.

2006 was epic but 2008 while not as tight just had that extra special something. The sky pretty much erupted with the beginning of Evil Urges and then it was on. I was so deep into the evening or at this point morning that during Home Sweet Home I thought it was Eddie Vedder on stage in that Little Red Riding Hood outfit and that he had gotten really fat. I was telling my buddy about fat Eddie Vedder the next Am and that when I found out who it really was and was like "wow." When the show ended I realized that I was the last man standing and that everyone else I had came with was back in our hotel in Manchester. I called one of my buddies who somehow answered his phone. Said he'd meet me in the day lot at a certain place. As I was walking out I went past one of the tents where DJ Teatro was playing and thought man now those people are fucked up. But then I went past The Disco Biscuits show and saw people down on the ground and shit and thought NOW THOSE PEOPLE ARE REALLY FUCKED UP. Scary shit. Somehow I managed to walk right up to the car at 4:30 Am or whenever it was.
So to sum up 2004 Bonnaroo was one of the best shows I ever seen by any band followed by 2008 and 2006. 2008 gets the nod over 2006 for the almost adverse conditions and what that brought out in the band and crowd. Word

When I think about this I wanna effing cry!  I was at B-roo 04 and hadn't really heard of MMJ at the time, completely missed it.  Was probably sitting in my RV partying away while it was going down.  :'(

I have been lucky enough to catch their sets at Bonnaroo 04, 06 & 08.  Obviously they were all great shows, but in my opinion I have never seen and never will see a show as good as the Return To Thunderdome (04').  Oddly enough that was my first experience with the Jacket.  I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.  I had never even heard of them until that day.  As soon as it was over everyone in the crowd knew that we all had experienced something that will only happen once in a lifetime.  It truly was an indescribable moment.

Here is a little trailer from an excellent Danny Clinch documentary about the 04 festival (jacket included).  It is an awesome film.

As for the question at hand...06' or 08'?  I have to go with 08.  In terms of audio recordings they also rank in the same order...  06 (good), 08 (better), 04 (best).

Just my opinion :)

I was not at 08 but have listened to it many times. 05-roo was my first Jacket show. I was prepared when I came back in 06! Lost my face that night somewhere in Manchester! Looking back... I would have to say my life (musically and personally) changed for the better after roo-06. God I love the Jacket!  :)
Wakin up feelin good and limber!
