So I went and saw Willie Nelson last nite at HOB, and I was talking to the sound guy for the opening band.  The group is called Joe Firstman.  I asked him what they sounded like, and he told me a sort of country rock thing.  I asked him if he'd heard MMJ and he laughed and said that Carl (MMJ's new guitarist) had quit Joe Firstman to join MMJ.  I thought that was interesting.

And how was willie? I really like to see this guy once in my life but he doesn't come to Europe a lot,  let's say Belgium.

Is he a great performer?
I once saw him in "later with Jools Holland" (a BBC program) and I thought he looked great with his old guitar with holes in it and his long hair. But above all the music was great.

Oh man, Willie was phenomenal.  He played every last song that you would want him to play, including a Hank Williams medley.  There just isn't a better living person, IMHO.

Hey, bigger_rooty, that's a strange coincidence! So were they a good band, or was it a good decision from Carl?  ;)
I'm ready when you are

Well...there are so many ways to answer that question.  The only band that I wouldn't quit to join MMJ is Willie's band.  That being said, Joe Firstman is a decent band, but MMJ is light years ahead of what they're doing.  Good choice, Carl.  Welcome.

I hit a Willie show awhile back and thought it was average at best.  The band was o.k but Willie's voice....doesn't work for me.  Clearly, there are many people that do but I just don't get it. What is that attracts people to his show because it has to more than him singing...is it his "legend" status or just to say I hit a Willie show.
