Anyone here ready for their hiatus to be over? I read some reviews about their show at Coachella in California. Oh man.

I can think of a couple Pixies tunes that would be insane given the MMJ treatment. Any guesses? or your own opinions?

Who's going to see what?

Here in Europe, we're walking (running, walking fastly, take the next bus/train, etc) what ever, to the next festival. (I am anyway...)  Roskilde, or the Hultsfred-festival down in old Sweden, to hear/see them play.

Frank Black is my, sort-of, best friend......

Are bouth Kim Deal and Tanya Donelly there???
I think I'm in love with Tanya...Well...never mind.

I'm looking, nervously, for their arrival, Otter.

But, one small question Otter, is Kim Deal and Kristin Hersh sisters???? Or half-sisters?

Kirstin Hersh has nothing to do with it, as far as I know. She does have a sister, though, what´s her name again...

Anyway: I´m seeing them in Berlin on June the 26th. What´s with the California show, though?

I'm pretty sure Kristen Hersch and Tanya Donnelly are sisters, Kim's sister is Kelly they were in the breeders together.

O the California show was just one of the 16 shows they have played in N. America so far, however they played with Radiohead, Flaming Lips, and many others @ Coachella. It's a two day festival in CA. that always has some of the big dogs.

I was just reading reviews of their shows that day, and saw one guy had written that they tore down the house in front of 60,000 people as if they had never left the spotlight. I'm going to see the third night in Chicago (in November) and Detroit at the Fox in October.

Oh and by the way, after having seen MMJ again last night, maybe the Pixies might want to do a Pixies treatment to a My Morning Jacket song, instaed of the other way around.
Holy Mary Mother Of God do they Jam.

I'm going to sound hella ignorant here, but I am still unwise to the ways of the Pixies. I know they are rock gods of course - but I have none of their stuff. And if they are playing with Radiohead and the Lips, I'm sure I'll fall in love with 'em. Any suggestions on albums/collections to start out with?

otter

Bossanova, Doolittle, and Surfer Rosa are three full length albums and I'm sure there are an ungodly amount of imports, but that's a good place to start.

Bossanova is probably my favorite...but everyone is different. Hope that helps.

Oz

Personally I think 'Bossanova' is their weakest album - I'd suggest you start with 'Surfer Rosa'. That album was their first masterpiece and it contains their best song, Where is my mind. Ofcourse this here is all based on personal opinion, but I heard on the first reunion gig the Pixies played almost every song from 'Sufer Rosa', so... Check it out.

O, I didn't say Bossanova was their strongest album I said it was my favorite.

I prefer listenening to the live stuff best anyway...anyone can be made to sound good in a studio. I want to know bands can actually perform their songs. So many can't.

Hi guys,

I've been a pixies fan since I was 16. Surfer Rosa is my favourite album too. I recently bought a reissue on CD which had the fantastic 'Come on Pilgrim' ep tagged on the end. Joy.

They are playing here in Ireland soon at a big gig being headlined by the Chilli Peppers and with the Thrills also on the bill. Most people I know are going to see the Pixies. Last time I saw them was in 1989 or was it 1990? Anyways, it was amamzing.

I have to say though, I'm a little uncomfortable about them reforming. I saw a documentary about them a little while ago and Francis said that he didn't see the point in them getting back together as they had done everything and said everything they wanted to, and really it was over for the Pixies. So I wonder why the are doing it?

About the sisters - Kirsten and Tanya are half sisters and Kim and Kelly are sisters (almost look like twins!).

Best get back to work... so busy at the moment - hence my recent abscence. Hope everyone is well.

I'm afraid the main reason they're doing it is money. That sucks, yeah, but then again... I got to know the Pixies when I was about 16. In 1999, that is. About 7 years late to be able to see them live. I became a huge fan, but I always hated the fact that I never had the chance to see them live. So hey, they're doing it for the money, but at least I get a second chance.  :)

I am hoping they show up at Lollapalooza here in MA--I've liked them for a long time but never got to see them live.
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.
