For some reason I dug up a 3-CD-box of '30s jazz from my father's record collection and I'm constantly listening to it now. Some music that is...

Just made a mix for a friend & put on "i will be there when you die" from Theater Romein, Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, April 16, 2000.  Awesome!

Also, just bought a used copy of "chronicle" by CCR.  I haven't listened to them for something like 10 years, and they're a lot better, and more complex, than I remembered. Susie Q is amazing. Give 'em a try.

peanut butter puddin surprise

Dead Kennedy's mix in the car that I can't stop listening to....something about the puking at the end of T.D.T.F that is just hilarious.

Also, "Terminal Preppy" is just oh-so good.

John Mayall - Blues from Laurel Canyon.  Just got a copy on cd.  Can remember when I heard this for the first time.  Just checked and this came out in 1968! Frightening that I can remember it note for note but can't remember what happened yesterday.  You all have this to come to!

If you like At The Drive In you should be listening to THE MARS VOLTA! This is one of the new projects from the split of At The Drive In. Although I love At The Drive In you will be happy they split once you hear The Mars Volta.

Right now it's a sort of mix bag really.
Modest Mouse, Microphones (Mount Eerie), South San Gabriel (latest), MMJ's Tennessee Fire, the new Mountain Goats and some "old" 16 Horsepower.
Looking forward to hear the new Einsturzende Neubauten and "Culper Ring" by Ms Kris Force

Saw The Stills in Manchester last night, their new single 'lola stars and stripes' has been on the stereo all day. The Open were on first their 'never enough e.p.' is an awesome debut.

Wow, there is such a diverse mix of music being listened to by the MMJ fans. Fantastic.

I'm currently addicted to Echoes - the Rapture, Franz Ferdinand, the Lost in Translation soundtrack (Kevin Sheilds new stuff - amazing), The Duke Spirit EP, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - 2nd album (so gutted - they had to cancel their Monday night gig here in Dublin because of Pete's damaged hand).

Also loving.... Gang of Four compilation, Outkast double, Canyon - Empty Rooms and Stellastar* (eponymous) and my mates The Future Kings of Spain (www.redflagrecords.com).

Always loving .... Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Elbow, Bonnie Prince Billy and, of course, My Morning Jacket.

Can't wait for.... new Von Bondies, 22-20s, new Interpol.

God. I love music.

Bob Mould...including his legendary band Husker Du and his offshot Sugar...pick up the disc Copper Blue by Sugar and you will become a fan. His album Black Sheets of Rain is dark and hard and his album WOrkbook is acoustic bliss.  Husker Du's discs that are a must are Warehouse Songs and Stories, New Day Rising and Candy Apple Grey.

The new Sleepy Jackson is worth a listen....

The new John Frusciante record is for sale! I just bought it, haven't heard it yet, but hey, it's John Frusciante... drool, drool...  ;D

Oh, and I bought Tim Buckley's self-titled debut album and "Goodbye and hello" on one CD. Heard a lot of good stuff about it, so I'm curious.

I heard the sampler form the Frusciante record and it was great. Must go buy the full version today.

If you get into the Buckley stuff have a listen to John Martyn's 'Solid air' album its amazing one of my favourite albums ever. Anybody from Detroit here? A band from there called 'The Deadstring Brothers' played my club last week, they were great and really nice guys they're coming back next month to promote their new album.

Oz

The John Frusciante album rocks ass. There's even disco on it! And a 6:30 min. Pink Floyd jam! Wicked, truly wicked.

As for Tim Buckley, I heard his later albums were better, yeah, but only after I bought his first two. Still, those two are so fucking good, I'm probably gonna buy more of him in the future! And yep, I'll think of Fred Neil too...  :)

Many of you have complimented the Wrens new disc...The Meadowlands.  It is great and if you can get a copy of Secacus...buy it.  It is impossible to find unless you want to go on Ebay and buy it for 75 bucks.  However, they are on tour....I saw them on 19th and they rocked...you can get it for 10 bucks at the show.  Check their concert schedule and if you have a friend in that city force him to go the show(he or she should have a ticket anyway) and make them pick up the disc. Also, the opening band Irving were very tight.  The magazine Magnet is a great source of new information on these types of bands. Did not know a thing about Irving...read about them in Magnet and said let's make a point to see these guys...well worth the effort.
