This morning I listened to my friend Mark Vogelsang's demo record.  I don't think any of you know him, but I hope that you will one day.  It's incredibly beautiful.  It's so musical, and lyrically poignant.  Lots of layers and pretty melodies, and sad underlyings, but not the kind of sad that's "in your face" or accusatory.  Just a facet of the writer's emotion, I guess.

(He did the added instrumentation to one of my songs that some of you might have heard.)

Of all the people I know, Mark should tour around the world, and when he does, I will let you all know about it.  Because you will love it.  :)

is that Doves new album any good.  hurd someclips, were ok?  i have been listening to disc 3 of the Low bax set for a while now.  really relaxing, and my shrink says i need to relax.  wish Kozelek would put out somehting new, that always relaxes me.  favorite on the Low disc is cover of Blue-Eyed Devil originally done by of all bands, Soul coughing.  great song when interpreted by such a band as Low.  Starting to get sick of it though, so help me out with some depressing shit, huh.  thanks all. peace.

Have to agree with you on the Arcade Fire cd, check out kasabian if you can.

Back to Me - Kathleen Edwards new record.

I like it.  I like her.  She's pretty plain-spoken, and her songs appeal to me on a lot of levels.  I also really like her voice - I think it's honest, and she's not afraid to sound the way she sounds, which I like.

But here's my thing.  I don't know why she chose the song that she did to bring Jim on.  You can't even hardly hear him - you certainly can't really tell it's him.  Which is fine, and who knows why that choice was made.  But then there's this song called "Away", and I think it would've been a really wicked choice for a duet.  There isn't so much instrumentation, so you could actually hear the voices.

That's just my opinion, and I understand that decisions like this sometimes have more to do with other things - and maybe they don't - maybe that was the song, and it was executed as it was meant to be.  I just don't get it.  It's not a bad song or anything, and it sounds good.

It's like, let's say you got Emmylou Harris to come and sing with you (for me, Jim is the boy Emmylou Harris) - wouldn't you want to HEAR her?

Okay.  I'll stop.  It's a good record, though.  Kathleen Edwards has a cool way of combining a bunch of sounds.  And the guitar is pretty cool.

That's my story.

Great album. Great Songs. Great storytelling.

Did hc or me ever tell you about the guy who used to pretend that a Todd Snider song was his own?

This is funny.  Waaaay back in the day, when I was first starting to play guitar in front of people, we used to go to this open mic night that was hosted by Gowan's little brother.  Not kidding.

Anyhow, there was this guy, and he was a pretty cool guy.  Sang kind of political songs, and he could play guitar like a mother (damn my thinking that I'm swearing too much these days).  He also wore black converse high tops, and he's in his forties, so I thought that was cool.

So one song he always used to sing was called All Right Guy.  And it was a hit.  And I always thought it was his own song - everybody always asked him to play it.

So one day, hellaciousc sends me this mixed cd with his favourite Todd Snider song.  And it's the same song.  And I laugh about it, it's kind of funny.

So THEN, recently, hc asks me about this bar, and if I ever go to it, and if I've ever heard this guy sing there.  It's the guy.  The same damn guy.

Weird little world, eh?

p.s.  for those who don't know, hc lives in Virginia, and I live in Toronto.  :)

E.C  I dont advocate copying in anyway...especially when the band are friends but i'll do you a copy if you like...fantastic English country which is sometimes very witty but not in a comical way..hard to explain. Many a beautiful song on this album, especially the gorgeous track "John Belushi" been going to see them for a couple of years now..they have supported the likes of the supreme "Shins" and one of my other favourite bands "Richmond Fontaine".Steve the singer is a funny bloke and they all take part in this music business as a bit of  fun..they all have day jobs. Anyway drop us an e-mail and send me your address and i'll pop you a copy in the post...I think of it as a way of promoting the band in the States, as i am pretty sure it is not released that side of the pond. Anyway if your interested let me know?...also dont forget them vocals when the new tribute album gets under way. Have a fun weekend y'all :)

I'm Canadian.  I am the bridge between you and the US.  I'm the one on the fence, never being able to decide.

I came from you, and I share with them.  I offer cheap DVDs across the seas, make some pretty good cheese, oftentimes I freeze, really like to please, in the prairies the dust makes me sneeze, hear yeeez hear yeeeeez, and best of all, god DAMN those shhhhaaaaaaaky kneeeeeeeeees.
