Well done England!

Sorry if this doesn't mean anything to most of you, it's just we don't often get a chance to say that  ;)
In fact I'll say it again: Well done England!

EC

Well done, indeed!!

(what for?  feel like explainin'?  Is this a sport thing?)

primushead

He said England...so I'm gonna guess...soccer?  Oh, oops, I meant football.

primushead

Oh, and I just realized that doctorinthehouse is female.  My bad.  I'll change that 'he said' to 'she said'.

'The Ashes' is a cricket series between England and Australia that takes place every 2 years. They are held alternately in England and Australia, with each series consisting of five matches, each lasting up to 5 days. It's hard to believe a match taking so long can be nail-biting stuff, but it is. We haven't won since 1987 so it's especially exciting. Both sides played really well.

The name comes from the first time Australia beat England at cricket (in 1882). This was such a shock that The Times printed a pretend obituary about the death of English cricket. The Australian cricket bosses joined in the joke by giving the England captain an urn containing the ashes of a burned cricket ball. They are still in the little wooden urn, which is what we won today  ;D

I don't want to talk about the progress of the England football team.
