It's entirely possible

aMillionDreams

yeah I saw 30 guests were on last night.  The buzz begins.  I predict that 25 users and 30 guests are going to become commonplace around here in the coming weeks and months.

I have a friend named Waxy, who many of you may have seen around here.  He suggested one night during his reefer madness that he believes we will see an explosion, much like that of the early-mid 90s, of incredibly relevant and socially consious, not to mention fantastic, rock music.  As we see the  number of fans for bands like MMJ, Kings of Leon, The Doves, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, QOTSA, Eagles of Mother fuckin' Death Metal, et al grow, does it not seem inevitable?  We're due!

But what would it be called?  The Sexyolution?

I have foreseen this also, but it's not a "rock revolution", it's...something else.

I see it as more of a grass roots kind of movement.  You know- kinda getting back to basics- back to the roots.  It may be an across the board movement affecting all musical genres.  I believe it will influence music to lean more towards the folk/alt-country side- where music seems to be in its most sincere form.
but i done went and plum forgot it

I would tend to agree with you, but this "form" has existed now for quite a long while. Why is it finally gaining more popularity at this point?

Perhaps People must be so amazingly sick of being spoonfed "whats good" that they're scrambling for something...anything...different. And this, friends, is different and ground-breaking.

people are becoming tired and bored with fashion-rock.  keeping it "real" doesn't have to mean angst like when the early 90s brought "grunge" to the forefront.  people had become tired of opulence, aqua net, and zero substance- grunge filled this void and blew up.  its all cyclical

Isn't it ironic that the more these mall punk and sugar rock bands try to keep it real with their lyrics about suicide, alcoholism and abuse, the more formulaic and processed they sound?  I guess my problem is that bands with a flashy image get pushed to the fore front but the worst part about that is that outside of a studio setting, they have zero talent.  A band like Aerosmith or The Rolling Stones has a somewhat flashy image, but they know music.  I may not dig their style, but I can respect them for being decent musicians that transcend, and somehow are immune to, time.  I get excited about bands like MMJ and others because they project an image of "it's all about the music".  The just love what they do, not the opulance that surrounds it.
