im saying the same thing, and im a huge colts fan, born and bred hoosier.  of course, its mere speculation, but its the feeling i get.

The Colts are from Baltimore, not Indiana.

Quotehe's not as technically accomplished, but he's balls to the wall and that will make things happen.

Yeah, like a shit load of interceptions.  Did you see what happened to the Giants in thier first playoff game?

My point with Peyton is that he's great because of his work ethic his dedication, ambition and passion.  When you coach sports these are all things that you stress because they are things that will take you far in whatever you do.  If it were not for the time and energy Peyton put into it he probably wouldn't even play in the NFL, everyone knows Eli is a better pure athlete.  Not many have the desire, will power, and strength to devote themselves so fully to being Great, Tiger Woods is one.  Of course when you devote yourself so fully to something there will be plenty salivating when you stumble.  I think other athletes become bitter with these Freakish individuals that are so intent on devoting themselves so fully to winning and being the best they possibly can.  I can understand because these other guys work thier ever living asses off to.  I'm sure that the rest of the PGA kept saying "my god will Tiger just take a fucking day off, you are making us look like loosers" - Exactly his plan my friends!!!! But no, Tiger was the one hitting balls three hours after everyone else went home to eat and watch TV, Peyton was the one camped out in the film room at UT while everyone else was out partying.  I don't fault Peyton for not winning a championship in college, I appreciate him for all the victories and the way he carried himself as a college athlete, and if I was an Alabama fan I'd Fucking HATE Him to. ;)  If he never does win a Super Bowl it won't be because he didn't try.

There's Still Time.........

again, this is harmless sport smack talkin'...HOWEVER...

after a lifetime of growing up around Pittsburgh in the 70's, I can easily dis on today's athletes, peyton manning included.  class act?  c'mon.  so some other athletes are jive talkers, and those who aren't are now "class acts"?  buffalo bagels.

there are great football players in the past that never won in the playoffs or the super bowl, but they didn't go on press conferences and blame their lack of a win on their offensive line.  team leader?  you take the lumps when you're the leader, not blame your lack of scrambling ability or big play ability on the line.  he moves around a whole lot before the ball gets snapped, but stands there like a statue once it is snapped.

all i'm saying is for all the hype this guy gets, there's no results.  sure, he's a great QB but so are a bunch of other fellas playing right now (Leftwich, for example) that don't get the hosannas he does.  AND, to be a football purist (again), their schedule this year was a lark, AND they play indoors.  that's not real football, that's practically arena football.

who couldn't rack up 13 wins with their schedule, and all home games indoors?  oh right, Detroit.  but that's a team void of good solid talent.  their defense is better this year, but still suspect.   you can't win games on offense alone, and their choke in this game with the Steelers proves that, once and for all.  it has to be a balance between offense and defense (Chicago Bears, anyone?).

This game with the Colts will go down as one of the greatest Pittsburgh victories of all time (Super Bowls and all) due to the overwhelming negative press about the Steelers, and the overwhelming positive press about the Colts, the so called invinceable titan team this year.  9 point spread?  they didn't beat the spread, but they sure as hell won the game.

they did have an easy ass schedule this year, but do you see a team winning 14 games every year and dominating the first 12 like they did? no, you dont, but alas your indoor stadium and what-have-you will always be something to throw back, old man.   ;)

oh, and tracy (cornucopia of information), im well aware the colts started in baltimore, but see my 26 year old self has adopted them as an indiana team since they moved there when i was 4, its all ive known since i knew was football was.

The amazing thing to me is he has never won any championship at any level.

In highschool he only had 5 losses.  3 of those were in the playoffs.  3 trips to the state championship game and 3 loses.

We all know he didn't win anything in college either.  As good as he is, he has a major history of choking in big games.  I'll stick with Jake Delhomme, who seems to do better in the playoffs than he does during the season.
If you don't know for yourself, how could you ever know for me....

Conway, you can't claim to be a football purist and talk smack about players. That's not what a football purist does.

OK.

Another thing thing, Sammy Hagar was not the original front man of Van Halen.  ;)

Um, yeah.  Sure I can.  You don't think Mean Joe Greene didn't talk trash back in the day?  What's more football purist than a founding member of the Steel Curtain?  Jack Lambert?  He used to talk trash all the time.

Sure, the Bart Starr's and Jim Brown's of the world didn't engage in trash talking, but there's a substantial difference between say Terrell Owens and Jack Lambert, most notably that Lambert never threw his own team under the bus, let alone the coaches, owners, etc.

The game has changed dramatically since the early 70's, and I pine for the days when interference calls involved naked fans streaking across the stadium, and personal fouls were left for the serious blows.  If I see one more "block to the back" call during a kickoff, I'm going to start calling football "blocking ball".  ;)

Conway, you're no Jack Lambert, you're just a fan who claims to be a purist. Purist FANS don't talk trash, IMO. There's a huge difference.

This would never have come out of the mouths of Jack Lambert, L.C. Greenwood, Dwight White, or Ernie Holmes:

"oh that's right.  mr. bigshot, replete with his home field advantage, lost to an under-rated Steelers team.  all the arm waving and dosey-doe that dude does at the line of scrimmage wasn't enough to stop a very hungry Steeler defense.  a missed field goal?  bad official call?  still not enough...

where's the Super Bowl trophy for Indy?  oh that's right...they don't HAVE ONE.  for all the praise and ass kissing this guy gets, you'd think they'd won five Bowls in a row.  but they can't even make it to the SECOND ROUND of the playoffs."

Doesn't sound like a purist to me.

ycartrob

Maybe it's just me, but I got over making fun of other team's losses when I was younger. It's just silly to me now.

That's just my opinion and how I feel. Of course, everyone is welcome to express themselves in whatever way they wish.

peanut butter puddin surprise

So are you the walking dictionary these days or what?

I'm a "purist" in the sense that the rules have changed for the worse.  I'm just some dumbass fan, so I can talk all the shit I want to.

What's your definition then, Mr. Dictionary?  ;)

oooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh.  so it's a maturity issue for you then.  Nice one Dad.  I'll mull that over.

like I said earlier, this is just me talking smack.  Or have I touched a nerve in that I, as a private fan, can't make a little fun of a player I think is overrated?  It's just my opinion.  Like it or lump it, I'm sure you know I'm a stubborn goat and I say what is on my mind.
