i'm proud to say Kentucky ranks 7th on the list of "most cost effective highway system".

don't read if you're not into reading nerdy statistics...

i don't know if believe that, actually...

MMJ_fanatic

I thought we were the only one that called it a "rotary"(?) and supposedly everyone else calls 'em "traffic circles"...

Quotewhat is a rotary?

it's this: (no little guy in the middle directing traffic)

I had never been on a rotary (or heard of one) until I was out on Cape Cod. I came up on one and almost caused several accidents.

Nashville thought they'd be all metropolitan and shit and put a rotary at the east end of music row. Problem is, they put a giant statue of naked people (Musica, hailed as the largest bronze sculpture in America) in the middle of the most confusing traffic scheme in town. Sometimes I have a bit of an OCD moment and I cannot leave the traffic circle (rotary) until I have counted 27 breasts and 16 penises. I just circle and circle, counting and counting...

Ladies and gentlemen, for your viewing pleasure:  Musica

A friend of mine says he's gonna scale that thing one night and replace that golden tamborine with a beat up ol' banjo.

I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

That's because most people don't realize the drivers in the rotary have the right of way and you can't enter until the way is clear.  What ends up happening is a bollocks of confusion when nobody knows who is supposed to yield--so you get people stopping in  the rotary and people hesitating to enter the rotary and eventually somebody comes along and crashes the party... :(duh

well, i knew I called it that, but like gumbands, pop, reddin' up, youns, and harses, I figured it might be like a regional thing...you know, like hoagies vs. grinders vs. subs...

right... we have these, but call them roundabouts. are they not that common in the US? they actually work fairly well if everyone knows how to use them (give way to the right for us, i guess give way to the left for you).

we don't have any of those cloverleaf things here (at least i've never seen one)...

and sorry john but i have no idea what any of this is about!

As a matter of fact they are rather uncommon in the US and for good reason (see my earlier post)

When we were in England that was the first time I saw a rotary.  Very confusing to say the last for outsiders.

Quoteiono.

what's iono?

i've always called the "rotaries" traffic circles.  they have them in hilton head.

MMJ_fanatic

The rule is very simple though (once you've been taught):  drivers approaching the rotary must yield to drivers IN the rotary.  That's it!
