QuoteAnna Nicole, the gold digging, drug addict skank, will get more press over the next week than all the brave men and women who have given their lives in Iraq over the past year. All of them combined.

No offense, but bullshit.  Every goddamn lead story on our news is about Iraq.  About death.  About dead soldiers and contractors.  And about every other person who has died there EXCEPT for the poor bastards who were unlucky enough to be born into a country that has a civil war going all around them.  We are, as a country, totally fixated with Iraq.  Every week, at least three of the news shows on primetime has a story about one of the soldiers that have died in Iraq that week.   Is that not enough press?  Go to the local affiliate in the area that the soldier died-more "tributes" to the fallen.

Not that they shouldn't get props, but alas they shouldn't be there or have died there in the first place.  The whole thing is ridiculous, insane bullshit to the 900th power.  Repeat after me:  Iraq is not our country, Iraq is not our country.

Now, the whole goddamn thing is escalating as we "decide" to just go ahead and attack Iran.  Who the fuck thinks that's a good idea?!   This whole Crusade is a waste of lives, dollars, and international credibility.  Unless we're all on the fast track to total Armageddon, we need to step the hell back and take a deep breath and FIX THIS cancerous, parasitic, divisive, mindfuck of a deadly quagmire it has become.

I watch the news every night and EVERY lead story is NOT about Iraq. Right off the bat your post is inaccurate, so I don't know how much of the rest of it I should discredit.

If you really think this country thinks more of soldiers than celebrities (much less dead Iraqui's) then I don't have much more to say.

Taterbug

I think it depends on which news source you choose to follow. Msnbc is pushing scooter libby and Iraq and domestic policy.  Faux news channel I find tends to push negativity to our current administration away. and if you don't watch you unpatriotic.
cnn is just fucking confused.
I enjoy the most credible news source. Stephen Colbert.

well, not knowing what news you watch, I can honestly say that every day there is a lead story on some channel somewhere about Iraq.  there's what...forty odd choices of outlets...during the various 24/7 news coverage we have...hmmm.   the ones I've caught are all about Iraq as a lead story and then some.  so.....

and, I think you're shaping your opinion on our nation's values about this issue based on your opinion of the media.  the media doesn't represent reality, we do think more of our soldiers than our celebrities...it just doesn't get the publicity that celebs do.

every time a story about her came on the news last night I switched channels.  I don't need to know "how she died" "what drew us to her" (nothing in my case) or "why did this happen?" .  It seems the news outlets and tabloids are pumping up on Xanax now that target #1 has gone to take her big dirt nap.  Fuck the media

So, if you hit the streets today in America, be it New York City or Enid, Oklahoma, and asked folks, "So, did you hear who died yesterday?" how many would say Anna Nicole Smith and how many would say Gilbert Minjares Jr.?

MMJ_fanatic

Tragically way more would reply Anna  :(

QuoteAssuming Mr. Gilbert Minjares Jr. is one of the 3115 brave young men that gave his LIFE to defend our freedom.  Our current administraition won't glorify his death because of the growing discontent in our fine country. It just adds more fuel to the fire. They even went as far as to instruct all major news outlets not to publish photos of our fallen heroes coffins. Because it is unpatriotic. FUCK THEM.
THEY ARE UN-PATRIOTIC. THEY MAKE STALIN LOOK LIKE A FUCKIN BOY SCOUT.
HONOR OUR FALLEN

Couldn't let this one ride--it seems every soldier who is lost in battle has their stories told on news outlets in their area (I know I have heard about every fallen warrior from the New England area on the news).  That is how it should be by the way--tell the story of the heroic man or woman from the perspective of those who knew them best:  family and friends.  Funerals are private events, as far as I am concerned, and belong to the family and friends of the fallen, even though many of the events are covered as part of the stories of the same fallen heroes.  I don't know what kool-ade dealing website you got the information about the administration from but they need to do some fact checking becasue I see coffins on TV on a regular basis.  Unless your point is to broadcast the negative part of war/conflict which I am pretty sure everyone understands exists--people are hurt, crippled, even killed in war that will be a fact until they come up with robots to do the job.  Lastly hyperbole never serves to strengthen a position in a debate--compare our government (it's not just President Bush and Vice President Cheney who brought this conflict to bear--both legislative bodies put their support behind it too) to a mass murderer is not a very logical route to get your point across.  Someday our country won't have to help people get out of bad situations and that day will be a great one full of global peace but right now there are too many people who want to tear us down and frankly I'd rather see us deal with them in their backyard instead of mine.

I sir first of all do not view this as a debate, these are my opinions, I reserve my right to state them as I respect yours.
Lets go back in way back machine to 2001.
We had a congress controled by Republicans. And a republican president.
Vote totals for the resolution
house 296-133
congress 77-23
The resolution
The Resolution required President Bush's diplomatic efforts at the UN Security Council to "obtain prompt and decisive action by the Security Council to ensure that Iraq abandons its strategy of delay, evasion, and noncompliance and promptly and strictly complies with all relevant Security Council resolutions." It authorized the United States to use military force to "defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq; and enforce all relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions regarding Iraq."

Lets not forget Irag was split into parallels with a no fly zone. In a box so to speak.  Afghanistan is in full blown chaos.
Some questions for ya.
Was Irag a threat to our national security ?
Did We find all the weapons of mass distruction ? or even a finite trace ?
Was our pre-war  intelligence accurate ?
Did we have a plan for success ?
Did we have a post war exit plan ?
If you were a child in Irag how would you view America ?
Are we breeding more terrorism and hatred than we had pre-war ?
If you were traveling abroad would you be proud to call yourself an American or would you tell them you were Canadian ?
This was definitlely a slam fucking dunk was it not ?
Maybe our congress and house should of asked more questions before beating the drums of war, Instead of putting there tails between there legs and saying yes KING GEORGE , whatever you want.
If you want to continue to support our Pres be my guest.  Your not the only one i'm sure.  His approval ratings are  in the low 30's.  I must admit i'm glad to see him say he made mistakes, makes him look a  little more human.
We NEED to win now or we lose all credibilty. He started this shit storm, he better fucking fix it or they WILL  be walking across the border and fucking wreaking havoc.
It will make Isreal look like the land of OZ.  His track record speaks for itself. Better go out and buy that assualt rifle before he amends our constitutional rights. It might come in handy.
In 2002 when the our soldiers returned home a photographer was questioned for  publishing photos of a row of caskets. Why was he castigated by the white house. Because Bush thinks were idiots thats why.War is not all about fireflies & fairytales as he would let you believe. His war is about oil, revenge and no bid contracts.
I know war is not easy and you must overcome and adapt to all  adversity.  Bush's problem is he has a one track mind and is not open to a change of strategy. It took a change in both houses to get him to change his path. If you don't carry the party line than get the fuck out. That kind of philosophy reminds me of a certain dictator.
With Bush and Cheney and there VAST  military experience you would tend to think they would not put our Soldiers in harms way if it wasn't a TRUE threat to national security.
I do support and sympathize with our troops. I want my friends home. And they want to come home, trust me.  3 fucking tours come on. For what ?
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED  ?

Well he may not have been covered in national news outlets but I am sure the coverage in his home state and town was thorugh and deservedly respectful.  If not, that's too bad because here in New England the fallen heroes are covered with nothing but the highest of praise and respect--which I believe was the central bitch in someone's recent post.

"Faux news"?  Oh brother ::)  "Get my news from the Colbert report"?  kinda like saying cookie monster and elmo are the greatest news correspondents in the world ;D
Course I already understood that hate for Fox news was alive and well--the liberal pack of wolves can't stand that they've been blasted in the ratings by this little voice in the wilderness which mandates both sides--conservative and liberal--are heard in a balanced fashion.  (Tracy--no need to try to cut down Fox again--I already know where you stand)
