QuoteBarack would have just as much on him, if not more, if he had done anything up to this point. He hasn't even served a full term as a senator. He wrote a book and speaks very well, that qualifies him to be a motivational speaker, not leader of the free world. It's easy to have no dirt in your past when you haven't done anything in your past. just saying.

Also, I would like the idea of a washington outsider coming in and changing things if it were actually viable, but the establishment is so "established" that no new kid on the block is going to be able to coming in and changes things without facing MAJOR resistance.  Hilary would at least have some chance of changing some things for the better from within the system.
or maybe he is not a crook? well as much as a politician can not be anyway. maybe the reason why he doesnt have some shady spots in his past is because he doesnt involve himself in those type activities.

if by "those type activities" you mean politics, you're right he hasn't.  give him another term or two in the senate he'll have some dirt. i hate to be so cynical but we are talking politics.

yeah man. i agree. there is no such thing as clean politics. its like GE saying they have invented clean burning coal. politicians are politicians, just like sulfur is sulfur. its all dirty no matter how you burn it.

I agree with absolutely everything aMD has said. Could not have put it better myself. Perfection.

It's complicated - I'm voting for Barack in the primary, but I am a huge Hillary fan and I will be thrilled to vote for her in the general if she's the nominee.

For the record: Whitewater was a bogus land deal that LOST money for the Clintons. There was no Whitewater scandal. Kenneth Starr and his many, many minions spent many many years and many many millions trying to prove otherwise. The Starr Report exonerated the Clintons on both Whitewater and any involvement in Vince Foster's death (which was alleged to be part of a coverup for Whitewater.) Kenneth Starr, people. You don't get more viciously partisan than that.

This ugliness has got to stop. She does not deserve it.

Barack. Hillary brings up her husband too often.

i doubt that she'll be able to get anything done in Congress---if she's elected, the country will divide further apart than it already is, congress will turn over (like it did when her husband was in office) and she won't be able to do anything? you don't have to have some kind of expertise to become president--that's why you have an advisor for every topic and you select your cabinet wisely---what better quality in a president than being a good speaker? people want to be inspired and motivated---even if it's just for a few min because in the end, NOTHING will change that much because people want to maintain the status quo. you say an outsider can't change anything, but at least you've got a shot---w/the others (mccain and hillary) you've got NOTHING but more of the same...a lot of animosity, party divide--w/obama you've got rhetoric accompanied by hope (i am a registered republican btw)
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

Well, so far it's Barack.

He has 80% of the vote on our little poll.  I wonder if that is representaive.  I'll bet we're as good as all of the other predictors! (Of course, 3 of the votes so far, can't vote in the U.S. election, but we still love your enthusiasm).

This is exactly why i wish Mr. Gore was running. but unfortunately we have to take what is given to us. i think obama would do more for the environment than clinton simply because she has just as many energy companies, drug companies and such in her back pocket as well.

Drunkre

I voted for Obama in the primaries (Alabama).  But I'm not ecstatic about it.  I would vote third party again (I have for some time), but there just isn't any really attractive candidates from there.

Disclaimer: I'm not a US citizen, so this is probably none of my business.

I can't believe that Gore is now hailed as some sort of environmental activist.  I mean, he was VP of the USA for 8 years and did precisely fuck all about climate change when he was in a position to do something about it.  Gore rant over.

From a foreign perspective, anyone is better than Dubya, and any Democrat ranks above the GOP.  Obama seems light on foreign policy knowledge, though, and maybe the best bet is a joint Clinton/Obama ticket, with Obama stepping up after the first term...

Whoever's in charge, the US is always going to be the environmental dunce unless it accepts that it has to reduce per capita CO2 emissions, even if it affects the economy. TANSTAAFL...

Oh, and the EU and other developed nations also have to do way more in this regard also - I'm not America-bashing for the sake of it.

i disagree. i think Mr. Gore's opinions were basically swept under the rug while he was VP. that is why after winning-losing the election in 2000, he got out of politics completely and decided to focus on the environment. i think he realized that being involved in politics, such as being VP gives one less of a chance to voice his passion unless it involves making dirty money. instead he was forced to go along with the agenda that did not include helping the environment. regardless of the timing, he has helped raise environmental awareness to many people. at least someone stepped up and did something that no one else was willing to do. i do agree that many other countries are doing more to help out than the US. of course that has a lot to do with the fact that most politicians in this country would rather have their pockets lined than making sure the planet is not an inhabitable place for generations to come.

to the dems credit, they at least kept the status quo while in office.  the bush administration has actually made strides in the wrong direction in the last eight years.  It's going to take a lot of work just to undo the damage they have done to environmental policy.

Gore was at Kyoto in 97, and a signatory for the USA, when the US effectively wrecked the whole process.  It might be that he disagreed with the stance taken by America, but if so why sign it?  I'm not saying that Kyoto was going to save the world, but Gore actively contributed to its toothless nature.

I'm glad he's now saying the right things.  It's just that the whole poacher-turned-gamekeeper thing rankles with me.
