Best US TV Comedy of all time (non-animated/animated/sitcom or otherwise all on the same list)

Make a list (max 10) Your number 1 gets 10points, 2 gets 9 etc

Need to think carefully about this...
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Non-animated

#1 WKRP in Cincinnati , but All in the Family is more important.

Animated

#1 King of the Hill

The Simpsons have hung around too long - 10 years too long in fact - to unthrone King. And The Family Guy has been far more miss than hit since it came back from "hiatus".

Cheers Jaimoe! Just to clarify, I meant non-animated & animated on the same list. My bad for not making that clear. Shall I give WKRP in Cincinnati 10 points & King Of The Hill 9 when I add up all the scores?

Not that it really matters too much in the grand scheme of things  ;)

Honestly, I'd never even heard of WKRP in Cincinnati until today...

Unfortunately for younger folks, WKRP was a series of its time, as SNL remains. For example, the show dealt with the then recent stampede deaths of fans at a Cincinnati Who concert back in 1979. Thus, some of the biting satire and social commentary along with historical facts may be lost on younger, first-time viewers.

WKRP was a series about a family owned AM radio station, managed by an inept man-child. The DJ's programmed the music, the sales manager was a bigot/alcoholic/womanizer and bad dresser, the news man was more interested in hog reports than solid news, the receptionist (Loni Anderson) was the smartest and best paid employee. Anyway, the music was played live and the actors actually spun the albums. It all felt real and every cast member was equally hilarious.

WKRP will never be shown like it was due to music rights used on the original broadcasts cannot be used in repeats. Also, some of the colourful language has been since edited out. But I'll always remember what Herb called Les when he contemplated suicide on the ledge of their building.

So it's a bit like Beavis & Butthead then?  ;)

I'd love to have Beavis & Butthead on DVD with the original videos put back in...

Season I of Ren & Stimpy ruled. John K left the show after that season. How could you replace the animator, producer, voice of Ren and the main writer?

The Larry Sanders Show is another one of those programs that I don't think of as a sitcom. Great show though; same with It's Gary Shandling's Show.

MST3K

I'm ashamed I forgot this one.

For the unintiated, I believe you are referring to Mystery Science Theatre 3000, another series that isn't a sitcom but is really funny. Don't forget that sitcom means "situation comedy". Sorry, but I love the genre. Same as war movies don't include westerns, period pieces and historical dramas.

A friend of mine had a small crack cocaine problem back when this was on. One day he asked me if I wanted some free MST stuff (T-shirt, huggie, etc...) b/c the week before he had been smoking rock through the night, watching MST and ordered all their promotion stuff like 5x (and he had to give them the credit card number, address, each time he ordered). Cocaine is a powerful drug...

Well, I haven't submitted my US Top 10 (and I think SCTV and Kids would qualify because they were co-produced by NBC), but my #1 is still WKRP.

Jellyfish

The Honeymooners
I love Lucy
Andy Griffith Show
All In The Family
Sanford & Son
The Jeffersons
Cheers
Family Guy
Three's Company
Simpsons
The fact that my hearts beating
is all the proof you need

Jaimoe

WKRP
The Honeymooners
SNL: 1975-1878 and the Eddie Murphy/Piscopo years
The Carol Burnett Show
All in the Family
Cheers
Seinfeld
Arrested Development
SCTV
King of the Hill

Just missed the cut:

MASH
Mary Tyler Moore
The Office
Larry Sanders
Mr. Show
Taxi
The Partridge Family
Happy Days - pre Fonz jumping the shark
Hogan's Heroes
Ren and Stimpy

And with reservations:

Family Guy
South Park

Note: The Simpsons has sucked for a decade, so I've eliminated one of the best shows of the 90's from my list.
