QuoteRourke didn't play a pole smoker in a movie about gay rights, that's why he didn't win.

Ahhh, that gives me a good idea of what you can do in your spare time to earn enough money to pay for My Morning Jacket releases AND give your daughter lunch money.

zoiks!  :-?

that almost sounds like an insult; glad it's not.
If you knew ANYTHING you would realize that people just want to fit in. They don't want to be singled out or made to feel weird or different. You think you're helping "gay" people by saying it's not ok to make a joke on their behalf. What you're missing is that YOU are the one making them feel weird or different about their orientation by saying their exempt from jokes because of that very reason.

Saying gay men have oral sex is offensive to you? Are you saying their lifestyle offends you, or are you offended because I bought it to light? If I called you a carpet muncher would you get offended? Probably not (I'm assuming you're straight).  Picking and choosing who you can joke about is part of inequality.

What's odd is that this makes sense to you. I am not trying to "help" gay people, I am trying to help you.

The thing is Leon, Tracy is just trying to keep things positive, keep things from going too far down the road of dick jokes and fuck that and talking stupid shit ALL THE TIME (it's not JUST this thread that has led to you getting called out). We all like to be crude from time to time, talk a little playful smack, but more than that, we keep it friendly, and we're considerate of each other. That's why we (myself included) say something, because we don't want this forum to turn into some (completely) crude, impersonal place.

we could probably do without comments like that here.

I dunno, seems like this board is slowing creeping into everydayville...  :-/.

The originality of the posts have a lot to be desired, IMO.
Why don't you go start another thread to cry about it or report me to the mods, you old queen.

There is nothing insulting in that post, you just love acting like the PC police along with your forum nazi act.

Rourke didnt' win because Penn was the better actor last year. Milk was an amazing movie, and Sean Penn was outstanding in it.

i've been called out in the other thread because Tracy got mad because the thread went off topic in a direction he didn't like. But it was "all good" when it went off topic to something Tracy could add to, but once it turned to something he didn't like, he started his wah wah wah act.

Micky Rourke is still the man. I hope he bitch slaps the guy from Talk Soup, and Sean Penn.

I didn't really think what the talk soup guy said was all that mean. But I can understand losing a pet is not really a laughing matter so I can see why Mickey would get upset.

SP is a good actor, but where as most people think he's brave or heroic or groundbreaking for taking that role, I just see it as trying to pander for another award. Of course it was gonna go to him for that role.

you seem to have little clue about who Harvey Milk was and what he did and how many people he spoke for. He risked his life for something he believed in. We're not talking hockey or tits, we're talking about someone actually risking their life, public scorn, hate, etc... for something they believe in. If you actually understood that; if you could actually wrap your brain around the notion that there are people out there who would actually risk everything they have in order to stand up for what they believe, then you might realize that Sean Penn was honored to play Milk. Harvey Milk was a brave man. You boil him down to a pole smoker. You're in  a "tizzy" b/c someone dissed Mickey Rourkes dog, but you call someone who was murdered a pole smoker. Pathetic.

I dont think Leon was trying to detract anything from Harvey Milk himself, he simply was saying Sean Penn taking that role was a trophy grab. I dont think you could necessarily say that was the case, namely because everyone expected Bareback Mountain to win the best movie award in 05/06, but Crash ended up beating it out.

That said, prior to this movie, a lot of people thought Penn was a homophobe. Once the movie was released, even more stories on that topic came out. I remember even reading articles where Penn made some statements/slang that werent exactly positive towards gays in the last year, but basically because he took this role, they didnt have a problem with it.

End of the story, Mickey deserved the Oscar.

When Mickey was thinking of taking his own life, he said that he looked at Lokey,  Lokey's eyes asked Mickey who would take care of him if he did.
God bless Mickey and Lokey

QuoteIm still pissed Sean Penn got the best actor Oscar over Mickey. Even if you thought Penn was slightly better, you gotta give it to Mickey for career achievement over Penn who I think already had 2-3 Oscars before this one.

i disagree. he gets the sentimentality votes but i'm a little over these hollywood has beens coming back to reclaim their shot at fame. i'm all for turning your life around and putting down the booze but that shouldn't win him an oscar. he was a great fit for that movie, but Sean Penn has honed his craft for 30 years, and even though i was nauseous reading about him and hugo chavez, he deserved that oscar because he's the better actor.

i guess i have more sympathy for the average joe who gets up every day and slugs it out at his factory job to put food on the table than for mickey rourke. but hey, we've all got our demons, just sayin.

not the most feminine thing to say but GET OFF MICKEY ROURKE'S NUTZ ALREADY!  ;)

that's a great point penny. I'll take it a step further and say the Mickey Rourke love fest (and I have always loved the man, since Rumblefish) reeks of homoeroticism. Here's the guy, ex-drunk, ex-boxer, he cusses, loves his dog, famous, can score women; he's a lot of guys' dream man of who they would "like" to be. He's a man's man!

That's why he gets the accolades from the shallow, testosterone driven man clan, whereas Sean Penn gets dismissed b/c he portrayed a "pole smoker". I'd say it's a projected rejection of feminine energy; femininity being seen as weak, but in actuality, Sean Penn played the braver role as Harvey Milk.

There's a lot going on in these posts, but you have to pay attention.  ;)

Where did I diss Harvey Milk for what he did? If you had any reading comprehension, you would see that I said Sean Penn was begging for an Oscar taking that role. Yeah, I made a joke about a gay guy earlier, I said he likes oral sex, OMG what a BFD! No where did I say that is all his life was about. You seem to be the one who is trying to spin this to make it look like something it's not. I was saying Penn took the role because he knew that subject goes over really well in Hollywood which has a very gay friendly community.

I think the point is being missed. It's not about the Oscars or acting or Milk or pole smoking or what we need or don't need around here. Just wanted to know what some of you thought about the original post. Or see what all your thoughts were about some of your dogs (not cats), things that has happened with you and your dogs how for would you go to care for them. Like health issues(Lokey apparently had one). It's hard to lose a dog you guys might know. A friend I hadn't seen for a while told me he recently lost a dog, then added that it was harder than losing his mother. One might think it was a cold and awful thing to say. I somewhat understood having both experiences myself. Some valid points were made here on those other very important issues. I know this is also an issue of how we respond to what others say so it does relate back to all the other stuff. Nonetheless this thread did go to the dogs. More bad dog news seems Leona Hemsley's family is suing the dog that got the 12mil when she checked out and they might win.I am really worried for that dog's well being. Peace edtombell.

You can hint a me being a homo all you want, it doesn't bother me. I don't think it's an insult in the least bit. BTW who the hell said they wanted to be like Mickey Rouke? The dude totally owned in The Wrestler. You are jumping to all these conclusions based off nothing.

Sean Penn gets dismissed because he will do anything to get an Oscar. If you really think he was trying to honor Milk and that's it, you need to open your eyes.

NO WHERE DO I SAY ORAL SEX IS WRONG, OR FEMININE! You are jumping to  these conclusions because YOU believe that stuff and are trying to project it on to me.

Trust me, folks at the wrestler were thinking oscar the whole time, too. This stuff isn't spontaneous. Of course SP was thinking oscar when he took the role, that's like saying a D1 football player doesn't care about a bowl game when he picks a school. It doesn't take anything away from his performance. SP gets all the oscar worthy scripts for a reason, because he can pull most anything off.

M Rourke was great, but SP is in a league of his own when it comes to acting.

Tracy--homoeroticism point is interesting---didn't think of that? He just seems like sort of a scumbag to me so maybe you're onto something as far as his appeal.

Cute dogs. Are they yappers? For some reason every small dog i encounter seem to have a Napoleon complex.

And just a guess: is Teddy the Alpha?
