And to round things off, here's the sheep field we lived next to in WV. Smelled like sheep, but was quite the gorgeous:

Where at in WV is this?

Here is a pic from the area where I live, WV also.

Hey Ritchie, did your trees and shed survive the wind?

Yeah, we really only had a few hard gusts. One of them tore up part of my dog's pen. But it was a quick fix. Thanks for asking.

Wait till you see them in person. Once and only once have I and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up from excitment and from the fact mother nature was about to bitch slap us around. Take a picture of them as they are amazing to see, then take cover as bad weather usually comes with them. [/quote]

everything you said about them is right on. i saw them on sunday, briefly, and then it got really nasty down here.
and yeah, they're name comes from "mamma" for breasts...like mammary glands. and they form when there's lot of heavy moisture up in the air, or something. wiki would probably know more than my puny brain.
glad everyone's enjoying this thread. i'm really digging everyone's photos. i'm gonna have to go do some more paintings; been trying not to work from photos, but sometimes i just can't help myself.

My patio in Spring. I need more pictures of my area actually. Need to take a photo trip soon. Hopefully spring starts early as everything now still looks dead and grey from winter.

Patio in summer after bloomage and everything turns green and warm.

And the front of casa Koehler.

Heavy moisture and some serious downdrafts. The only class I truly enjoyed in college was the semester I took Meteriology. Weather is awesome.

Love this thread. So many beautiful pictures from so many places. One thing about us Jacket fans, we're definitely aesthetes.

And Ritchie, I lived right between Martinsburg and Shepherdstown in the panhandle. The place is beautiful and I'd probably have much more of an appreciation for the area now that I'm older and not a middle schooler who needs a mall to survive.

Where are you at? I've also got family about an hour south of Charleston in Ripley.

I live right smack in between Ripley and Charleston. About a mile from I-77. I live in a small little section of the county (can't really call it a town) called Kenna. I graduated from Ripley High School in 2006. Pretty cool.

I live in St. Charles, MO which is an old river town about 30 minutes from downtown St. Louis.   Here is a shot of downtown.  It's a pretty tame but nice shopping area with mostly crappy bars but a few good quality night spots....

Here is a Lewis and Clark statue down by the river....

One of the better bars.   The brewery where I first met TEO is right near here as well....

More downtown fun.....

Also most people don't realize that there are actually some very beautiful spots in Missouri and some really great parks.

We are going camping at Hawn State park in May or June...

We also have this amazing park called Elephant Rock that my kids love.  You can climb on all of these wierd giant rocks that "formed in the Proterozoic 1500 million years ago from a dome of molten magma. Nearly vertical fractures formed in the stone as it cooled, and uplift of the formation enhanced the fracturing. Eventually the overlying strata was removed through erosion, exposing the granite dome. With exposure, water and ice worked to weather and erode the surface of the granite and to expand the fracture joints. Eons of weathering produced the rounded boulders that are the park's signature."

I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

That's god's country out there.  I spent nine years in Ashland, KY, which you all probably know is on the border of KY, OH, and WV.  I've spent 9 years in Ohio, 9 years in Ashland, and 9 years in Louisville.  I wouldn't call any of them home, though.

Hey aMD, are you currently in Ohio?  If so, whereabouts?  I've been in Athens since '92, aside from 3 years right after my wife and I finished our undergrad days.

BH, those are some great pix.  I spent four days in St. Charles back in 2000 for a work training.   I didn't get a chance to see anything other than the downtown really.  The training site was right on the main street downtown and I ate my lunch out back on by river every day, very peaceful.
The first night, I walked down to one of the bars.  I seem to remember it was about in the middle of the businesses on that main street.  I walked in and ordered a Sierra Nevada and the 'tender looked at me like I was stupid.  I kind of took a look around, saw all the memorabilia, and then it hit me that I'm smack in the center of Anheiser Busch country.  I quickly ordered a Bud.
