Don't know who's heard about this but Ear X-Tacy is facing some tough times.  If you live in Louisville do what you can to save this staple of our community.  Hopefully the guys will in some way help out the record store who helped them propel them to where they are today (concert perhaps? ;) )

I started a thread over in other music about an hour ago, but this is definitely a big deal for Louisville and music fans in general.  The more people who know the better.  Unfortunately it looks like they're doomed.

I got a text from a friend who was there today for the Watson Twins in store.  Apparently Bo and Patrick were there. I don't know if they performed or just watched.  Also, John Timmons, the owner, said something about the potential closing and was holding back tears.

Benefit concert, maybe?

Also this saddens me because local indie retailers, especially for music, ARE the community.

According to the article Ear Xtacy is one of the Top Ten record stores in the country which is easy to believe.  If they can't make it, who can? It makes me feel guilty for all the music I've downloaded (though I haven't done it in the last year)

All of the truly local ones by me are long gone. Vintage Vinyl is the closest, and that's a trek still. My town used to have one, and my town is full of all local retailer that are starting to close up shop in the face of national chains - electronic shops, auto shops, hardware stores, etc. We just lost the TV/appliance store too.

Still, I hope there's something that can be done even if the odds of me ever being in Louisville aren't high and I'll never get to experience it myself.
