QuoteI've seen some Makers bottles recently that had blue over white wax on them. Anyone know why?

They did some Rock The Vote bottles with red, white, and blue wax.  I only saw them in two stores and at one of those stores, the only have one bottle.  It is now in my possession.

Speaking of whiskey, just got back from the Willie Nelson show...sadly I am not drinking whiskey, rather a 40 of  Bud Ice...but I'm not complaining

I've seen those for collector's editions around here but they're always for Uof Kentucky.  Do you have a local sports team that's blue and white?

DB, you gotta try MM.  But I have to say Woodford Reserve is my favorite, MM #2.  I'm doing the WR tour next. They'll actually let you buy a barrel full of whisky (144 liters, i believe).  expensive, but you get to choose your own selected single barrel from woodford.

You got some good taste, my man!

I think WR is my favorite bourbon as well, though Eagle Rare usually gives it a run for its money whenever I get a bottle of it.  For the most bang for your buck though, I dont think you can beat Eagle Rare. Its usually 10$ or more cheaper than WR

Ive only had MM a few times, and wasnt a huge fan. Maybe expectations? I actually thought it tasted more like Canadian whiskey than bourbon  ;D

Buffalo Trace is also very good IMO and is usually only 20$ for your typical sized bottle. (Buffalo Trace is actually the distillery that makes Eagle Rare)

Sadly im stuck drinking Early Times right now  ;D ;D :-/ :o :o 8-)

I'm also a fan of Buffalo Trace.  I'll have to try Eagle Rare.  My two recommendations for "bang for your buck" whiskeys are W.L. Weller and Old Forrester.  In fact, half of what goes into a bottle of Woodford Reserve is actually taken from select barrels from the Old Forrester warehouses here in louisville and the other half from the distillery.  the rest just becomes regular old Old Forrester.

Early Times falls into the category of "rot gut" for me.   :-X

Early Times is my go to guy when I need it (plastic bottle and all).  Evan Williams will always be my best bang for your buck.

So I bought my roomie a bottle of Bushmills Black Bush today for his B'day.  Now I know Ireland is well Ireland...and I've been to some distilleries there...just not the Bushmills one but someone should have told them (even though it is old) that they might not want to name one of their premium lines

"Black Bush"   Just sayin' :-X

Speaking of Willie Nelson, I was at a show tonight and some girl asked me when I saw Willie Nelson.  I asked her what she was talking about and she pointed at my shirt.  It's a Mastodon shirt that has Rasputin's face on it.  Apparently Rasputin and Willie Nelson look the same to teenage girls.

Yes, Early Times is nothing to sip on, but its 1 of my cheapo favorites

That said, Ive never even heard of WLWeller, not sure Ive even seen it around here. I think Ive had Old Forrester, but I might be wrong. I know its in the ET, Evan Williams, etc. price range of bourbon, so I think Ive had it but not positive.

Eagle Rare is def worth a taste though. Runs about the same price as Buffalo Trace. If im feeling rich, I typically get 1 of those 2 or Woodford.

There is a Rasputin brew though

I hated doing speeches for classes, but my favorite 1 I ever did was senior yr European History on Rasputin. I put all kinds of audio movie quotes in the power point from Dumb&Dumber to Fast Times at Ridgemont High to get laughs after I mentioned a factoid. I also included the abhorrent song some group made around 30 yrs ago that went 'rah rah Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen'  ;D

Dude was hardcore though. I dont remember how many times he was stabbed/poisoned that night, but that badassery made me want to do my report on him. Little did I know he had orgies in his basement  :D

HA. Apparently that and Ice House to. It's the beer time forgot. What next, Bud Dry?

I'm so pissed off I missed this conversation!  I thought my nose was itching last night.  People are talking about bourbon!

What db, you are not the kind of guy who likes to stack up their empty plastic draft cups to show everyone how much you have had to drink?  (Referencing the new thread.)

I also belong to the Makers Mark Ambassadors club. (Surprise!)  It's free and anyone can join.  They send you cool shit all the time for free.

My friend won't shut up about Buffalo Trace so I guess I'll have to check that out.

And Dave!  It's funny you should say that about wearing that thing around my wrist.  This is embarrasing but in high school, after we'd finish a bottle of Seagrams V.O., we would wear that gold and black ribbon around our rists.   Once the teachers figured it out, they were not pleased.  What a dork.  I just found a picture of me the other day pulling a huge small mouth bass out of the lake and I had one on my wrist in the picture. ;D
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Where can I get my hands on some Buffalo Trace?  Haven't seen it anywhere in my neck of the woods and want some now? >:(

It's Friday.  School's out.  Time to tie one on.  Off to the LQ to to see what lies in store for me this evening.

BH, that's cool you're in the ambassador program.  How old is your whisky?  If you're planning to make the trip to KY when they bottle your spirits let me know and I can show you my version of da ville.

Picked up some Woodford. I am thinking room temp on ice to "temper" it a little. Freezer too cold? Straight up too strong for me? You know of my limitations amd.  ;) Any suggestions?

I keep mine at room temperature and serve it over rocks, sometimes with a splash of water. That's what I'd recommend. It's a great sipping whiskey.  I try not to mix it or chase it with anything.  Except this time of year I can't help but mix some whiskey and Ciders.

I may not splash because when I temper my Gin on ice I usually let it go for a good 20-30 minutes. We used to drink quite a bit of Dickel mixed with local cider. It was exceptional. I wish we could compare Ciders, because our local is outstanding! Thanks for the input, fatso

You bet your ass I'm going to visit the Ville someday and you and Kory are going to be the first ones I call.  I actually only joined the MM ambassadors club about 3-4 months ago so hopefully I will get down there before my Bourbon is ready.  I have an urge to see a Jim James solo show, so since he will probably never do one of those in St. Louis, I'm going to do my best to make the next Louisville version.
