what are your thoughts on adrien broner, ive only seen the short highlights from his last fight but it looks like hes got the quicks, might need to beef up a little. worth the hype?
First off, Kessler is a joke.

I've only seen the Broner/Escobedo fight and he looked every bit the part but I have no other point of reference and I'd never seen Escobedo fight before.

Thankfully the wife is a huge fight fan that enjoys random no name fights.  That said, she cracks up every time she hears the name Broner.  I'm a lucky one.

I'm pretty out of the loop these days in the fight world 'cept for some showtime fights.  Where's Headdy?  He's still on top of all this.

there has been a serious lack of fights lately really. showtime has had some of the best ones ive seen in recent memory. like i said i was super high on lucian bute, but he looked like he had no concept of defense

that one looked shady!  i've seen Miranda against Pavlik, Abraham, and Ward and he's a chump.  I will keep my eye out for Bute in the future.

Looks like Mayweathers next fight will be against Devon Alexander.  Not the name anyone wanted to hear I'm sure, I still think Canelo earned his right to fight Floyd, but the guy is a champ nonetheless.

Ive seen 4 or 5 of Broner's fights, and he's the real deal. Granted, most of those were when he was just starting to make a name on undercard HBO fights so he far outclassed his competition, but his combination of power and speed is ridiculous, also very good defensively. I dont see any great wins on his resume, but Ponce De Leon is a decent one and his last win over an underrated Anotonio Demarco is a pretty good one. He had never been KO'd before and is still considered a top 5 lightweight. He really has no competition at lightweight right now, I love to see him move down or have a catch weight fight with Gamboa, but I suspect a move up to Jr Welter will be happening soon as that wt class is loaded with big time fight options - Danny Garcia, Brandon Rios, Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse.

And of course Broner is on HBO tonight. Never heard of the guy he's fighting but he's a top 10 lightweight.

Im totally out of the loop after not having HBO or SHO for 9 months at my relatives' house. I dont think I saw more than 1 or 2 fights and that was just on a random weekend I wouldve been home, didnt see any of the big ones. Excited for the Broner fight tonight although I expect he'll dominate considering Ive seen him anywhere from a -3000 to -5000 favorite

Looks like Sakio Bika's on the undercard and his fights are usually pretty entertaining though.

maaaan carl froch looked like a fuckin machine when he beat down lucian bute
(who i hyped and hyped), and andre ward is a stud, that rematch has me drooling. i hope that neither of them fight kessler though

And there's another fight I had no clue that happened or the outcome. Froch is a tough SOB but Im surprised to see he not only beat but KO'd Bute. Ever since the Andrade I fight, Bute had looked unstoppable for 4 years and I saw most of those fights. Looking back though, they were mostly bums besides Glen Johnson who hasnt won a fight since then.

I bet Ward-Froch II would be a PPV

I was becoming a fan of Alexander's until his fight against Bradley when he seemingly gave up pretty early on when things got rough. Since then though, I see he's beaten Maidana and Matthysse which are 2 really good wins. I actually like the matchup but fully expect PBF to win. Considering Pac is coming off back to back losses, now wasnt the time for that fight to finally happen, and since PBF has already beaten JMM Im not intrigued to see that one again really. Sergio Martinez is the guy Id really want to see Floyd fight, but besides him Bradley and Alexander probably make the most sense right now.

As for Canelo, Id still like to see another couple big fights/wins before he gets a shot at PBF. He only has a couple notable wins - Mosley is 2-4-1 since his loss to Cotto in 2007, and Cintron Ive never really thought much of. Frankly I cant wait to see Alvarez fight Austin Trout in May, a fight Id much rather see than Alvarez-Mayweather at this point.

Yeah, Im ready to see Broner vs the best. He has the talent, but can he show it vs legit competition?!

That Rees guy threw some mighty punches for a couple rounds, but Broner just was feeling it out and toying with him it seemed like to me, plus blocking many of them. He hit the ignition in the 3rd, and Rees was down next round.

...aaaand he's going to end up fighting Robert Guerrero, the last guy I thought he would because of his resume (or lack thereof) and next to no name recognition by the public. Hell, Ive never even seen 1 of his fights.

I dig the 6 fight in 30 months contract with SHO/CBS though. Floyd hasnt fought twice in a year since 2007 and now he's going to for the next 3 years.

My favorite fighter ever, maybe his last fight, lets go B-Hop. The Executioner has to go out on top!!!

Still  :bath: of Hopkins decisive ownage of Cloud the other week, but please tell me someone caught the fights on HBO saturday?! If you didnt, run to your TV and DVR the replay which HBO is sure to air a few times this week.

Undercard of 2 undefeated welterweights Jessie Vargas-Wale Omotoso was very good, I believe 2 judges had it a 3 point margin, 1 had it 5. I thought it was closer than all of those. Very good fight, round 4 possibly a candidate for Round of the Year.

But the Tim Bradley Jr-Provodnikov might almost made it forgettable. I didnt see the Pacman-Bradley fight from last year, but know about the controversial decision. I had been a fan of Bradley's for awhile, but this fight puts him up there with my favorite fighters now. Guy has more heart and determination than anyone out there probably, just would not quit and I cant believe he wasnt KO'd. Post fight he said he had a concussion, and I dont think he was lying. My score was 114-113, which 2 of the official scores were as well. Tons of action, drama, and disbelief for me. Round 2 is probably a candidate for Round of the Year as well, but this has to be the front runner for Fight Of The Year, and if it doesnt end up being that, boxing surely has another great fight to come this year. Best fight I recall seeing since a couple of the Marquez-Vazquez fights a few years ago. Id love a Bradley-Provodnikov or Bradley-Pacman rematch.

Yup, the Bradley/Provadnikov fight was the type of fight that reminded me why I still love the sport despite all its flaws.  I think if I gave Provodnikov the 11th, it would have been 114/113 for Bradley.  Regardless, the knockdown that wasn't called in the 1st round denied Provadnikov of a majority draw.  This was a classic volume v. thunder fight and scoring round by round, I do believe Bradley deserved the victory but Provadnikov was the one that did the real damage.  Had he not rested so much in the mid rounds (the result of Bradley's body work), he may have pulled one out to change the result.  Were they to fight again, I imagine Provadnikov would have to incorporate some early body work to his strategy.  He has hooking power in both hands and that may have slowed down Bradley a bit.  Conversely, Bradley would never try to trade with him early if they were to rematch.
