True Detective is incredible.  I haven't been engrossed in a show this much since Breaking Bad
My wife and I just finished RE-watching the first 6 episodes and will now watch episode 7 this evening.  She was feeling lost and confused.  I had already watched the first 5 episodes twice.  So, now, I've seen ep. 1-5 three times, ep. 6 twice, and will get my first crack at ep. 7.  Its so good and multiple viewings enhance the experience.

You're so right, Im currently going through ep. 1-7 for a second time and it really is eye opening.  There's so many subtle things that I am just now picking up on.  I've read a lot of different theories and possible scenarios about how everything might play out and the beauty of the show is that, they are all plausible.  Enjoy episode 7, it's a dooooooozy.

So true.  Episode 4 and 5 were unbelievably incredible.  Episode 4 blew me away.  The whole series was amazing and intense a la Breaking Bad.  I was way engrossed.  What did you think of the finale.

Based on what you both said, a repeat viewing is in order.

Interesting article about the end of episode 4 that you'll probably appreciate:

I find True Detective to be good, but I'm not blown away by it. The premise has been done before and arguably better. Good performances and intriguing plot, but there's a deliberate look and feel to the show that rubs me a little bit the wrong way. Still, it's quality TV.

Any fans here of the BBC series "Orphan Black"?  I'm not a big fan of science fiction but that's only one element to the show. Some great action, and edge of the seat suspense as well. Really well written IMO, and the lead actress Tatiana Maslany is fantastic, and well deserving of her Golden Globe nomination.

Series two will premiere on April 19th

Agree with your comments! Great and inventive show. She's a fantastic talent. BTW, it's a Canadian series co-produced by the BBC.

I know it's a Canadian series, and no slight intended. It's just I watched it on BBC so that's why I referred to it as one of their shows.

I knew it wasn't a slight (hard to imply through words sometimes). The trailers for Season II look really cool.

No problem I didn't think you took it as one but wanted to make sure you knew one wasn't intended.

I agree the season 2 trailers look cool, and I've been anxiously waiting for the season to begin. Hopefully the buzz around Tatiana, and the show continue to build, and they get renewed for even more seasons.

Space carries the show in first-run here in Canada, and the channel is owned by CTV. CTV also carries it, uncut, but at a later date in the year. It's good that CTV helps fund the show since it's the #1 private broadcaster in the country (the CBC is public). As long as it gets the ratings and keeps up its relationship with the BBC, I can't see the show going anywhere. Truth is, I think the show would be better suited on the Canadian cable network Showcase, or specialty pay channels HBO Canada or The Movie Network. All three support several domestically-produced and successful genre shows: Lost Girl, Continuum and Defiance.

I posted this in the TV Shows That Sucks Thread, figured it should go here...

As for great TV shows, I have pretty high standards before a drama can nudge its way onto my list.

Best shows I've Seen:

- Lost
- Breaking Bad
- Game of Thrones
- Hannibal (If you haven't seen this yet, it is on Amazon Prime.  Watch it!! It is like House of Cards meets Dexter in the best way possible.  Super phenomenal.  Warning, it is not for the faint of heart.)
- House of Cards
- Dexter
- Newsroom
- Fargo (great show, watch it!)

----------

Good shows I keep up with:

- American Horror Story (the coven season was weak, but every other season has been great so far)
- The Walking Dead (this show could be so much better than it is right now.  It seems to formulaic)
- The Americans (I am a season behind, but good stuff so far)
- Bates Motel
- Orphan Black

-----------

Shows on my "to watch list":

- True Detective
- The Leftovers

-----------

Best comedy TV shows I've seen:

- It's Always Sunny (hilarity at its finest)
- Peep Show (this is on Netflix, seriously watch this show if you even mildly like British humor.  It may take a few episodes to click, but damn I couldn't stop watching it.  Such a great great show.)
- The Inbetweeners (another great British comedy on Netflix)
- Wilfred (this show teeters on being a drama in the later seasons.  It is a very unique experience.  I loved every minute of it.)
- The It Crowd
- Friends (classic, can't go wrong)
- Girls (a great HBO dramedy)
- Silicon Valley
- South Park
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

Can you keep it simple? Can you let the snare crack? Can you let it move without holding back?

Watched some good stuff on Netflix,  Beware of Mr. Baker &   Who was Harry Nilsson.   Both good docs about some rockin muthas.  Ginger is one crazy asshole.

Thanks to Netflix, I'll be checking out some interesting shows, like Bored To Death, True Detective, House Of Cards, just to name a few.

Is anybody watching True Detective season 2?  We just started it on Netflix.  I'd heard the bad reviews and the comments that it wasn't nearly as good as season 1 (which I thought was absolutely awesome), but I've been pleasantly suprised at how much I am enjoying season 2 (three episodes in).  It has a LOT of David Lynch stylings, in my view.  Lots of low-lit indoor shots, mid-century modern decor and architecture, weird fucking characters, strange dream/near-death sequences, eccentric and not very good singers playing in strangely empty bars, etc etc.

Yeah, its a complicated plot that is hard to follow,  possible with considerable effort, but that doesn't sway me.  The acting and chemistry is not on the same level as in season 1, but I'm still enjoying season 2 a lot.

any thoughts?

I thought Season 2 of True Detective wasn't even close to season 1, but I still watched it and liked it somewhat. Season 1 was just so good though!!! Vince Vaughn should stick to comedy. He was the worst part of it I thought. Looking forward to it coming back around.

I love The Leftovers. season 1 was weird and we weren't sure about it for a while. Season 2 was also weird and we loved it! Too bad they are stopping after Season 3. Definitely one of the most interesting shows I've ever watched.

what is missing from this list, and if you haven't watched them please consider adding to your Ones to watch list:

Six Feet Under
The Wire

unless of course you've seen both of these and didn't like them, which would be very hard to believe as both are so so SO Good!!!

Roadies was kind of disappointing.  Hopefully that was just the initial "character introduction" boredom but I was not impressed.   I'll give it at least three episodes or until I see Jim's part.

I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Been watching Preacher. I read the comics when I was younger so it's pretty weird to see how they're doing this, but it's getting better. Joe Gilgun has absolutely nailed Cassidy.

Other than that, have been on Britcom binge on Netflix and Hulu, especially The Mighty Boosh (a music joke gold mine) and The Inbetweeners.
