Spent 7 hours yesterday mowing these HUGE hills behind our house.  Almost cut my foot off (seriously).  My landlord wants us (my roommate and I) to pay for the rental of the mower ($53.00).  I did the work, so I figured my roommate would have no problem at least going halfsies on the $53...nope.  She refuses to pay anything.  Now I have to feel awkward telling my landlord that I'll be paying my half.  Feel like I'm ratting her out...ridiculous she won't pay $27 tho...I did all the work AND watched her dog while she was away for the weekend.   >:(

Geeeeez....... what is with roommates?!  That sucks, she definitely should take into account your dog-sitting and the work you did!  But is it going to be a repeat bill each time you need to rent a mower or something?  Because I'd say the landlord then needs to dish that cost out for his own property.  Or that should've been discussed going over the lease or something.....

My roommate (and his cousin who's been staying here, tho she's awesome!)  have both left, and I've been enjoying the place solo again.... and what do you know, the mysterious ANT and FRUIT FLY problems seem to have done cleared up in wake of their departure!  ::) ::)

I guess that's her argument.  That area of the property was overgrown when we moved in.  At first, the neighbors and the landlord said "Don't worry about it."  The landlord did bring over his large brush mower (he left it there pretty much all of last summer).  I mowed the hill twice, just to keep it in check.  So it wasn't an issue again this summer until I asked the landlord about this pen out back...there is a shed with a fenced in area below it...I wanted to keep my foster dog in there and I asked him about the condition of the fence.  He came and took a look at it and said he thought it would hold the dog, but the overgrowth was too much and we needed to take care of it.  He offered to pick up the rental mower and drop it off, but we had to do the work and pay for it.  I said "Sure"...roommate was out of town so she didn't get a vote.  I didn't think she would have a problem paying $27 when she didn't even have to do any work.  BUT she doesn't think we should be responsible for mowing that hill anyway, so she won't pay.

I guess I'm torn as far as whether that hill is our responsibility.
1)  Technically, we don't have a lease.  The landlords drew one up and gave it to us to sign, but somehow we lost it.  We've been living in this house for almost a year and a half now with no lease!  Crazy, I know.  I guess the landlords are laid-back people and they trust us.  So I have no idea whether we are really responsible for that area, but every time I talk to the landlord he says we are.
2)  That hill takes specialized lawn equipment and it's dangerous to mow.  I don't really want to buy specialized equipment to take care of a property that I'm RENTING.  Sure, I'll mow the grass...I did buy my own "normal" lawn mower, but I'm not buying a brush mower or paying for its rental every time.

Hopefully this won't be an issue...we only mowed it twice last year, and that's all I plan on doing this year.
We could.

Sorry about the job, man.  And she is definitely lazy around the house!

F(#%*)ING CENTIPEDE ATTACK!!!  FOUR CENTIPEDES ON MY WALL RIGHT NOW

Definitely one of the strangest nights I've had in awhile.

But I seem to have made it through, and though I only slept maybe an hour, two hours tops, I do feel a bit better.

Hawk, that is a tricky situation there indeed!  Do you think he offered to pick up the rental and bring it under the impression that you just wanted to use the area for your foster dog??  (In which case, he might expect you to pay?)  From your post it kinda sounds like it wasn't much issue (with paying) until you were wanting to utilize that area...

Oh and is the dog you watched for your roommate the foster dog?  Or does she have her own dog?  Sorry if that's made obvious in your post, still runnin on too few hours of sleep....  :-\

It's, like, 100 degrees out with humidity in the 80-90% range. Our power bill last month was close to $350. I can't keep the thermostat at 70 degrees anymore. Damn oppressive ass summer heat!

:'( <- those aren't tears; it's sweat.

The entire month of July was like that here. I might have to get a part time job just to pay the power bill trying to keep this damn old house at a balmy 77. We had 2 days of rain in July at my house and all it did was make it even more swamplike. Normally there is a week or 2 spell where it's awful, not this long of a stretch however.

megalicious

I know. We're running a dehumidifier in the house, too. It's unbearable to be outside. As soon as I walk out the front door, my glasses fog up. It's ridic. And the a/c in my car is crapping out; I need to buy more freon.

What makes it bad for me, besides trying to train for a marathon in this shit, is our Corporate tower seriously has the AC at 60. 60!! I'm having to wear a pull over to keep from shaking to death. Then you walk outside and passout within 2 seconds. Someone give Mother Nature a damn Midol.

megalicious

Goddamn. I like to be cold, but 60 is extreme. I feel like a lazy asshole, because I haven't been out for a walk or jog or any form of exercise whatsoever. It's just too damn hot. I know it's August, and it's going to be hot, but damn.

Maybe there is something to that global warming thing I hear about. At least until winter hits and I'm wearing 20 lbs of cloths to stay warm.

ALady

It's finally down to like 79 here today and it feels like heaven.  I want to make out with this weather.

Oops, complaints....uh....I wish I was at JacketFestWest.   :'(

This sounds like what my house would look like if my roommates left for a few weeks  ;D

I hope this S&P downgrade isn't as bad as they're making it sound...  :-\

I had a second interview today. They asked a difficult question, I gave a difficult answer. They're human lie detectors, so I can't really BS my way out of it (got called out on it once already with a "fluff" response on the "where do you see yourself in 5 years" question).

Now I can't sleep because I'm kicking myself in the ass with a "why would you give that answer" type repetitive thought.

Returned from an outstanding week with wonderful weather and peeps to 110F, then thunderstorms last night that knocked the power out at my house and work, and it's still out. Starting to heat up in here - time to head to the library, or the bar...

After reading the posts and seeing the pictures of last weekend, and barring something catastrophic happening, what do you say you and the rest of your Red Rocks peeps stay out of this thread for a while, eh?   ;D

Crispy

Ha! With no lost sensitivity for Tuscaloosans, Joplinians, and others, 100+ temps with no AC feels pretty catastrophic. You're right, I am still basking in the glow of last week. Probably won't keep me from bitching. ;)
