I've finally arrived as a student: 2500 words to write and eight hours to do so.  It's highly unlikely that I'll be getting any sleep tonight.  Wish me luck.

as long as you dont need sources and citations, you should be able to pull it off

so I need to write an 8 page paper by 6pm tuesday that compares something from the USA's culture/society to another country. There's obvious choices like government, education, religion, etc. - but can anyone help me out with a semi-interesting topic that will have a lot of information available on the interweb??

I was going to do a comparison between gangs here an England (since their's are based around soccer) an maybe another country as well, but there just isnt much information on it.

That is one of the most ridiculous, over-simplified, out-dated generalizations I've ever heard - this is 2009 for goodness sake, not 1989. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about...good luck with that F  ;D
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

like i said, there isnt much info on that so I ruled that out.

I hardly expect to get an F. This class is a joke and I have a 98% halfway thru. I'm probably just going to give up thinking of something interesting and just go with the diet of Americans compared to some other country.

you could do marijuana usage; mandatory military service (many countries to choose from); women's rights; if you want to do europe or england specifically-you can do legal drinking ages, the differences in crime (muggings versus murder) or gun control.

if you do countries like sweden/norway you can do the differences in work ethic/employment law--the capitalism v. the 140 days off a year that scandinavians get.

free education in most every other country v. our university system

good luck, capt.

Does it feel very tender/painful?  I had pink eye a long time ago, but I remember the inner part, nearest the nose, was slightly swollen and pink.

God sure baked a lot of fruitcake, baby.

i kind of like some of those ideas, but alas you were a little too late. I just ended up doing it on the american diet vs japanes diet. it was easier than I thought. Banged out 8 pages in about 4 hours.

Thank god thats outta the way now

when I was in chiropractic school at Palmer in Iowa, there were 4 or 5 people from norway and sweden. their country is paying their school tuition - it would end up being around 150,000$ - as well as 25,000$ per year for living expenses, etc., which considering school is 3.5 years, would amount to almost 90,000$.

so all in all, their country was giving each of them nearly 240,000$ to become a chiropractor.

most european countries, (i think sweden even offers it to foreigners) a lot of countries in south america (i'm pretty sure brazil), some in the middle east--i think in a lot of the countries (i know germany) higher levels like law school are free too -- or did you mean because you are taxed so high in order to fund it? sorry...but you live in the UK, right?

yup, uk.

no free university ed.  presently tuition is 3000£ per yr and they are discussing raising it to 7000£. oxbridge have 10 week terms and some courses at some unis have 9 hrs tuition.  not much for winding up with a debt of 30,000£.

switzerland charges tuition and provides almost no financial aid.

italy charges and it's shambles. who can, comes to england. same say my greek neighbours. three of them are here studying at grad and undergrad. as eu citizens they get a better deal here than to brits.

asians/africans/americans/asians etc pay hugely.

interesting re german law. i met loads of german students doing law in switzerland cos numbers were limited in their country.

do u know where to get low cost but high content university ed that would be esteemed in western nations?

here, above personal allowances tax is 40% . what is it in usa?  what percent of average income is then necessary for health care?

one way or another figure it all comes out about even in uk/canada/usa.  though official figures have usa as spending more of gdp  on health care.

did u know obama showed up here with a team of 500! insane!

health care is a whole different animal but most people have it deducted from their paycheck (can get pricey w/families); below a certain income, people can get it free (medicaid/medicare). i couldn't tell you offhand what % of income for most people. depends on which plan you get and how sick you are i guess?

as for the UK educational system, not saying all univ is free-certainly not oxford, but i think there are differences (like when you finish your A levels, etc) you can go to college (which isn't necessary a university?) and you get grants for that as long as you get in. i didn't say all european countries, certainly scandinavia--one of the things of free higher ed, you can't let everyone in....i'm sure that's why you have a lot of going abroad for school.

you're taxed according to income here--on avg anywhere from 15%-40% i guess...depending on who is in office
