Time to find that NHL thread...Ive been waiting to revive it [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

Go for it. We can also talk about the dismal performance of the US team at this year's World Junior Championship. Your stacked team (and gold medal co-favourite) of under 20 year-old high NHL draft picks lost to Slovakia (no NHL picks or prospects) in the quarter-finals. Canada plays Sweden in the finals on Monday. If you can find TSN on-line or on the dish, watch that game. It'll be on of the best hockey games you see this year with 19 thousand fans expected in Ottawa for this one.

I saw parts of that Canada-Russia game yesterday - looked great from what I saw - and wouldve probably watched the whole thing if not for that fantastic Colts-Chargers game...That Tavares goal from around a week ago or so was NASTY

That game was on NHL Network, so Im assuming theyll be airing the championship on monday???

I actually thought I saw the USA lost to Sweden in the semis, but I guess not. I didnt realize we were the favorites or projected to have that many prospects either.....or that its under-20....I thought it was 18 and under?? If they were such good prospects why wouldnt they have entered the draft at 18??

world juniors is some of my favourite hockey to watch and this year's no exception.  not impressed that i'll be missing the final.

also, finally a year i'll proudly admit to being a capitals fan.  17-1-1 at home and a franchise best 55 points after 40 games.

This is the premiere junior tournament in the world. It's U-20, so most of the players are 18-19 and many from the big nations have already been drafted or will be in this year's NHL draft - Kane for Canada will be a Top 10 pick this year and Tavares will go #1 (most likely). A few 17 (Tavares) and even a couple of 16-year olds make it (I don't think any 16 year olds made any of the top teams this year - it's a rare occurance regardless, but Tavares made it last year as a 16 year-old).

Canada played like ass against the Ruskies, so they better bring their A-game against a very confident Swedish team.

So are the players who were already drafted playing in the AHL but still eligible for this then or what??

I also read today that if Tampa ends up with the #1 pick, Tavares might pull a Lindros and say he wont play for that team with the #1...and something about Toronto trading future #1's to land him

Caps have been on fire. Hopefully Theodore and Johnson start helping my fantasy team out more!!!

They got a tough team, except for Semen..that slap happy puss cant fight for shit. I hope Crosby drops the gloves vs. him after what he said about Sid earlier

Very few drafted 18 and 19 year-olds are in the AHL. Some 18/19 year olds are in the NHL, but if they don't make their club, most teams send their young players back to junior (most Euros play on pro men's teams in their native countries or to a junior team that's affiliated with an NHL club, however the Canadian Hockey League allows teams to draft 2 Europeans per team - the CHL draft is for 16 year-olds... although the OHL lifted the rule to allow for Tavares to be drafted as a 15 year-old). Note: Filatov plays in the AHL and was the captain of Russia as a 19 year-old - he made his pro club but was sent down to the AHL for seasoning earlier this year.

Tavares will play for Tampa Bay if he were drafted by them. They have too many good young players for him not to; if only they had a good goalie and depth at defense...

I almost fell off the couch laughing watching that "fight", it would have been nice if the Rangers didn't play so bad in the game!! Hopefully they build off the win against the Pens the other night.

Jaimoe

I don't think Staal wanted to lay a beating on Semin (all the Staal boys are tough and good), but I think he should the next time they face-off. It might make him more of a man.

joey_rogo

The Staal/Semin scrum was pretty funny and hard to forget, but even more stuck in my mind is the one punch KO Redden layed on Caps Capn Chris Clark. Redden has been one of the biggest wastes of money for the rangers I can remember in recent years. This made me respect him though.. for a few hour haha. And while I'm complaining about the rangers, Gomez and Drury need to turn it up. Lately, they are getting outperformed by guys like Prucha, Callahan, and to a lesser extent Dawes. Naslund is doing fine. Dubinsky and Voros are two of my favorite blueshirts but have been really slumping as of late. The Korpedo does not deserve to get benched, and King Henrick's #s would be much much better if the defense didn't collapse so much. The Rangers will finish 7th in the East. This concludes my midseason review.  :D

Beat the Habs tonight......

my computer is messed, so i'm kind of late to talk about this. i did watch a couple games. i watched the us v canada, and us v slovakia.

the u.s. having  a 3 goal lead over canada and letting that game slip away was a joke. but it was clear that canada had too many on the ice on the 4th goal (i believe?), then add two empty net goals. i thought overall it was a great game and fun to watch. it's sad that maybe 5% of our population even knew that this was going on, 2% actually have NHL network, and about 1% actually watched it. good to see minnesota represented. go gophers!

Dawes, if he starts to play to his potential, will be a very good player. He was a star junior player and one of the Canadian juniors go-to guys on a stacked team a few years ago at the Worlds.

I like Voros. I hope he starts to get it going again. I like Redden, but he's a streaky kind of player and perhaps he's not comfortable playing for the Rangers and their system.

Some teams starting to turn the heat up and a bunch of games looked like playoff hockey this week.

PIT/WAS on Wed, SJ/CAL on Thurs, and SJ/DET and BOS/WAS yesterday were all awesome games.

Im mostly happy that after winning I think 2 of their last 10-11 games coming into this week, the Pens win 3 of 4 this week, including wins over Philly, Anaheim, and a shutout of the Rangers this afternoon

My fantasy team thanks you for the shutout Fleury  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Too bad you missed games involving Canadian based teams. The Sens-Habs and Flames-Coyotes games were intense. Even though Calgary lost, they are a legit Cup threat this year.

Those were the main games I was watching yesterday, but I watch everything but the Pens for free on my computer, so I basically watch whatever is a close game or big matchup..Since I have Bryzgalov, Jokinen, and Andrei Kostitsyn (whose on fire lately) on my fantasy squad, I was watching those ones off an on. Saw the last 10 minutes or so and the shootout of MON/OTT and the whole 3rd for CAL/PHX game

Good stuff, like I said, a lot of teams seem to be ratcheting up a notch

The Pen-Rangers game was on NBC today. I was watching the Raptors-Suns game instead, but it looked like a decent game, intensity wise.

joey_rogo

the pens/rags game was one of the worst games i have ever watched on tv. yes, the rangers sucked, but i feel very bad for them, cause even if they were good, they had no chance. so many bullshit calls, and a bullshit penalty shot given to cindy on a blatent dive. plus, nbc kept wetting their pants the whole time talking about crosby and how awesome he is. barely mentioned malkin, and barely ever mentioned the rangers. the nhl wants the pens to succeed because of their golden boy, the pens were in 9th before the game, the game was on national tv. do the math. i call bullshit on that game. and o what do ya know, the pens are on nbc again in 2 weeks.

Jaimoe

I'm glad I wasn't watching the game then. I did see Jordan Staal get an assist on the 3rd goal by Sykora.

I'd say the NHL wants the Rangers and the Pens to be dominant. The league needs the Original Six teams to be competetive and successful, especially the US based teams in big markets like NYC. The Pens aren't an Original Six team, but they have a strong fanbase. Regardless, I hate them.

However, Crosby is Crosby and Malkin isn't an ideal poster boy. Ovechkin fits that bill far more, as Euros go.

joey_rogo

i agree with you about the rangers and pens. that has to be why the rangers were 5 games ahead of everyone for a while, so they would look good in the standings haha.

and i absolutely love ovechkin. in my opinion, he is a much better poster boy than crosby. first of all, he is hands down the best player in the league, talent wise. also, he plays with so much emotion, it's awesome. i love watching him score, even if it's against my team. every goal he scores is like the first goal he's ever scored. i've heard that he is a totally nice guy off the ice too.

ah well. here's to hoping the pens miss the playoffs.
