On topic: I hate the Arcade Fire and wish they never made music, but I'll give you the rest. But still, how truly popular are most of these artists? Sure you and I and most people here know them, but this is a board dedicated to the greatest band to ever be ignored by mainstream media (until recently).

On the larger scale, Canada is America's arch nemesis and vice-versa, and for some reason your weapons are more effective: Labatt's, Celine Dion, and Nickelback. All we ever gave you was 8 years of failed leadership. So unbalanced.

The bands I listed are popular in the indie world and some have broken out commercially, like Arcade Fire and Feist. More established indie acts would include Ron Sexsmith, Hayden and Rufus Wainwright (although I don't think Rufus falls under the indie label).

Labatt's Blue does suck (but the brewery has some good beers) as do Celine and Nickelback, but Lucky Lager and Laker are far worse - think  Milwaukee's Best. Canada has sent more terrifying weapons south: Nelly Furtado, Our Lady Peace, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Three Days Grace, Theory of a  Deadman and Diana Krall. The band I loathed more than any on Earth is the now defunct Canadian trio, The Tea Party.

I just got back from Florida and I have Landshark and Dogfish Head Pale in the fridge. Good beers.

I'm a pretty huge food/drink snob, but I'll also admit that there are times when only a cold, light domestic will do. I'm talking Miller Lite, in a can. If I'm fishing from a drift boat all day in the summer heat, or I'm at home on a summer evening and it's still 95+, give me a Miller Lite or two. Or tubing on the river with a sack of cans floating next to me in the water...I'd venture to say that some of my most satisfying beer experiences have been during hot summer days, outside having fun, with a nice, gradual, manageable, day-long domestic buzz going.  8-)

Yep, theres some times where an ice cold can of macro outta the cooler is just the best option

Ahh so Canada is to blame for Sum 41 and Simple Plan. For shame Canada, FOR SHAME!

QuoteGoose Island Bourbon County Stout
Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale (how can beer that good come out of a can?)

Had the Goose Island IPA this weekend...and had forgotten that I had until I saw your post.  ;D

So, I've been told that beer is better stored in cans than bottles.  Maybe it's a mental thing with me, but I don't like canned beer.  I always get that light metallic taste.  Anyhow, Dales is pretty good -- even if it is in a can.  ;)

Hmmm... I suddenly crave Goose IPA.  How'd you do that?

I have consumed enough beer that I now have magical and mysterious beer  powers.   :)

I just had some Left Hand Milk Stout on tap.  Great shit!  May be the best stout I've had, but there's some stiff competition in that category!

BBC states it well: Beer is Food.  Maybe a little Four Roses Single Barrel for dessert...

My favorite to date is a beer i can only get at bonnaroo. or make a trip down south to get it... It's a brewery called Terrapin and the Rye Pale Ale is to die for. The guy there was willing to sell me a 1/4 barrel to take home but i would've had to pay the $5 a cup all the way up.. Whoo that's a pricey keg.. Maybe next time...

Saw that Terrapin stuff at the distributor when I was there a few days ago - in PA. It was a variety pack, and pretty sure that was in there. Reasonably priced at something like 30-35$ as well.

Guess ill have to put it on the list

Beer pairing dinner last night was lovely.  Favorites were the Goose Island Matilda (Belgian style, fruity and tart) and the Pere Jacques (also Belgian, really sweet; tasted like port, almost).

Finished off the evening with a Left Hand Smokejumper Smoked Imperial Porter.  Ugggghhh.  Just too smoky.  We passed it around the bar a bit and no one was feelin' it.  Ah well.

Yeah I had that before, didn't care for it either.

Oh cool, I wondered if anyone else here had tried it.  I liked the idea of it, but it was just so smoky.

That is quite the epic name for a beer.  Kind of got me curious now considering my taste for very peaty Scotch.

Hmmmm.....

ALady

You know, that's not a bad comparison.  I think it might have been a little more palatable if it had been a smaller serving; it came in a giant 750 ml bottle.   :P

Right now, I'm into my third tallboy of Boris (France) and am eye-balling a Kronenbourg 1664 to cap off my evening - it will go well with tonight's Daily Show and Colbert Report along with the sports highlights.

For True, Ghosts, and anyone else in the greater Pennsylvania area, I recommend Knights Head Pale Ale.

Its not great, but for 9.99$ a case, its the best beer Ive ever had.

Seriously the most bang for your buck ever. A Junior Bacon Cheezeburg has nothing on this stuff

Firstly, i apologise if this has been mentioned, but i just found this thread and i really could not be screwed reading the first 7 pages.

Anyway...If you are after some fantastic beers, pick up an Australian one, or if you are in the country this post will help you out, and please do not make it a Fosters FFS. Very few people in Australia drink it coz it tastes like BBQ cleaner. Because us Aussies love the idea of drinking beer on any occassion. I doubt your local bottle-o will import them, but if you ever see any of the following jump on it:

Vitoria Bitter aka VB aka Green Monsters. This beer is perfect in warm weather, and in particular after a long hard day at work.
Carlton Draught aka Draughts. Fantastic beer which is best served from a tap.
Cascade Premium. Tasmania is well reknowned for it's breweries, and this beer has a strong finish.
Bohemian Pilsner. A very sweet beer from the Matilda Bay brewery in Western Australia. In fact, this beer is hard to find in your local bottle-o in oz.
James Squire. They have a wide range of pilsners and Ale's which never fail. naturally, best served off a tap.
Coopers. Definately not a poor mans beer, a fantastic blend of wheat and, in some cases, spices. Highly recommended.

And please don't request Foster's on tap when in OZ, coz not many pubs have it!!!

I have been drinking beer some 41 years since about the age of 10 thanks to the influence of much older cousins from NJ at a lake cottage in southern IN. Last spring I started drinking IPA's. I have 36 bottles in my collection so far and am always looking for more. I just saw an add for the Hop Shop in the city and that will be my next venture. So far some of my favorites are: Lakefront, Avery, Hazed, Hop Devil, O'Fallons, and Schlafly. Hop Juice and Unearthly are a couple of good IIPA's, but IMO alot of the doubles over compensate with barley malt and give it a sweetness I am not looking for in a beer. I like it "green and clean." Here's to Hoppiness! [smiley=beer.gif]
