QuoteOooh, I want to try the Dogfish Head.  Have you had it before?

Yes, it's very good.  It's my wife's favorite fall seasonal.  Me, I can't choose just one.

I HATE the DFH Punkin.

However, I'm biased. I generally do not like heavily flavored beers and I feel the DFH is overboard on the nutmeg.

On the flip side, Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout is my new favorite pumpkin. It's well balanced, a hint of pumkin, and more like a brown ale than a stout.

Nice.  I've heard good things about the Southern Tier Pumking too.  Might just have to have a pumpkin beer taste-off...   ;D

Great pic, Jaimoe!  I'd love to go to Oktoberfest one day.

Can anyone recommend a good brewery in Philadelphia?  I've already been directed to Monk's Cafe.

Monk's is good for Belgian.  Haven't been there in years.  I think we had mussels...everything was good.

If you get a chance, check out the Khyber Pass.  It's a bit of a dive, but they usually have some nice selections on many taps.   :)

ALady

Excellent, thanks NoVa!  Will do.   :)

*edit* Just checked out their taps.  WHOA.  I can't wait to try some Troeg's out there!

flyguy, that Bourbon County Stout is SO good.  Goose Island's 312 is a pretty good beer too.

I'm not a huge fan of the other Chicago area breweries (Half Acre, Flossmoor Station, Three Floyd's) but in terms of "beer tourism",  ;) Hopleaf, Sheffields, and the Map Room are all do-not-miss beer bars.

I had the Three Floyds Alpha King Pale Ale and I really liked it.  I even brought a sixer home; I am a hops fiend...

I was in the UK for less than 24hrs last week but managed to bring back some bottles of Badger, Old Speckled Hen, Ruddles & Abbot Ale  :D :D :D
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Shiner Bohemian Black Lager- YES! If you have it in yo area, try it. Is good.

Oh and for those without the benefit of facebook. I want this to be bigger.

That's one of my new favorite session beers   :)  Good stuff!

This weekend I had:

Long Trail Ale
Magic Hat #9 ($3/pint, woohoo)
Dogfish Head Aprihop
Lancaster Milk Stout
Tröeg's Tröegenator Double Bock
Russian River Publication
Yuengling Lager

Not all in one sitting   ;D

Picked up six New Belgium Hoptober this weekend:

Not too bad!

I went to a festival of barrel-aged beer on Saturday:

http://www.illinoisbeer.com/

It was insane.  We tried about 36 beers   ;D

The only two I didn't really care for were the Anniversary Ale XII Spiced Braggot from Rock Bottom (I was curious to try it since my Dad is brewing a braggot right now) and the Black Pearl from Maui Brewing Co. (with toasted coconut/aged in Hawai'ian rum barrels).  I absolutely loved the Lost Abbey Angel's Share 2009 from Port Brewing/Lost Abbey (tasted like a chocolate malt), and I also really liked Cruising With Ruben and the Bretts from Lagunitas (brewed with cacao nibs and white peppercorns, aged in Heaven Hill whiskey barrels, and dosed with Sonoma County cherries in the barrel).

Everything about it was great except they were blasting really bad dance music in the auditorium.  So odd.  Though they did finish up the evening with "Freebird", and that was an awesome high-school-slow-dance kind of moment  ;D

I wish I went to THAT High School. Sadly mine was all Color Me Badd, Hammer, and NKOTB. And kids wondered why I showed up loaded for Homecoming dances.

Well, that's what they were playing up until "Freebird".  Seriously some Black Eyed Peas kind of stuff.  Oddest.  Beer Tasting. Music. Ever.   ;D

You're so welcome, flyguy!  There's a nice list of tastings/events on beeradvocate.com...hopefully something close to you!

Picked up a sixer of Bell's Kalamazoo Stout. Cannot wait.

dragonboy

Celebrated my first night in the UK with an Old Speckled Hen, Poachers Choice, Golden Champion & Golden Glory.

The last 3 are all Badger Ales, I love them all but Poachers Choice is really something special!

MarkW

Welcome home, DB!  Hope you're having a good time.

Tonight's tipple will be a dark mild from the Buntingford brewery just down the road from us:

http://www.buntingford-brewery.co.uk/beers-core.htm

It's a special brewing with limited availability.  My guess is that the guys down at my local are going to have a good go at doing the whole keg tonight...
The trouble with the straight and the narrow is it's so thin, I keep sliding off to the side

dragonboy

Thanks Mark! Anything new/favs you can recommend?

Had a bottle of Fullers Winter Ale last night. Not bad but nothing special. I'm hoping Wychwood's Bah Humbug Christmas Ale will be available soon...
