I bought a 4 pack of this due entirely to the unique flavors and I enjoyed it more than I predicted.  I would drink it again...

Happily dabbled in some Heavy Seas' Small Craft Warning, Stoudt's Pilsner, Southern Tier Double IPA, Lagunitas IPA and Maximus IPA and 21st Amendment Black IPA this past week.

What did you think of the Black IPA? I always see it at my local bottle shop but I've never picked it up.
Ahh, just saw this.  I had a chat with the bartender at our local craft brew pub and he basically told me that the Black IPA may just be a flash in the pan trend.  I actually have enjoyed some others that maintain a hoppy character for all its stoutiness.  The 21st Amendment I found to be overwhelming with coffee and chocolate flavors that I don't think it was fair to even call it an IPA.  Thought it wasn't my favorite, I can see others diggin' on it.  Just don't go in expecting any strong hoppy flavors.

Well, I brewed my first semi-homebrew over the weekend!

I mentioned back in December that my wife bought me a slot to brew my own beer at a place called the Brew Kettle just south of Cleveland and last Friday was my slot.

Pretty cool establishment as they have a bar and restaraunt up front and about 10 large kettles in the back where customers can choose from about 50-60 different beers which they supply the recipes for and all of the ingredients and they also have a couple of guys there to help you out through the whole process.

I chose to make what they call Dead Poets Imperial IPA.  I go back on May 14th to bottle my brew!     And I am guaranteed to get 72 twenty two oz. bottles when it's all said and done.

And I've already re-scheduled for October (earliest I could get on the schedule  :o) to go and brew something else.  They have a Fat Tire clone that I think I might try out!

  As with many trends, particularly in the world of gastronomy and the like, B'more is often late to the party.  This can be good and bad as we are able to ween out fleeting trends before we adopt them but also end up being a step behind all the time.  Heavy Seas is the one local craft brewery that I have enjoyed since it was created as a sub line of beers for Clipper City Brewing and the only one from Baltimore that has 'made' it with distribution increasing nationally.
I highly recommend their Small Craft Warning as a complex/potent lighter beer.

Aside: I've still never had Ranger :embarassed:

Loose Cannon is awesome.  The Ranger IPA (I'm assuming this is the one you mentioned) is great I found it in Kitty Hawk, NC last summer.  Random but that's the only place i've ever seen it
Sometimes when I get in my zone, you'd think I was stoned, but I never as they say, touched the stuf

Also for those Dogfish fans out there.  I got my hands on a few bottles of the Squall IPA.  Apparently it's the 90 Minute but a little different.  It's extremely smooth for a beer pushing 11% but its dangerous.  Very dangerous.

I'm a big fan of 90 Minute; I will keep an eye out!

I don't think it will be all bad news.  I'm hopeful about two things: 1, that it could mean they'll be able to bottle and distribute more of their specialty beers (the sours and Bourbon County Brand Stout variations especially) and 2, that it could mean we'll start seeing Goose Island at festivals/sporting events instead of the usual Bud/Miller.

Also, the former head brewer from Deschutes is coming on, and that is not a bad thing at all.
I hope you are right about this as GI is one of my favs. Their line of special Belgians is beyond good. I will be hitting up their Wrigley location and possibly buying out a Binney when I'm there in Oct.

Been hitting up Boulevard's Smoke Stack line lately. Tank 6 and Sixth Glass are fucking delicious.

For those not FB friends, enjoy. This will be updated throughout the summer.

Don't get me started on DFH. It is not longer distributed in southern IL, and I'm not cool with that.

This right now has me so high. 10.5% and you wouldn't know it until you stand up.

Not sure if Ive ever had Loose Cannon, I certainly havent had a few in a row to give me a good idea of how much I'd like it...I'll have to remember to get some sometime soon.

That quadruple ale looks tasty. I dont think Ive said it since Ive rarely been around, but Im glad you and your avatar are back mjk!
