I was in StL overnight on Friday and I was able to take in many selections:

Schlafly Tap Room
http://schlafly.com/breweries/taproom/on-draft/
New Zealand IPA
Chocolate Stout (best beer of the trip)
Dry-Hopped APA
Barleywine

Pho Grand (Vietnamese restaurant)
VBL Tien Giang "33" Export

Four Hands Brewing Company
http://4handsbrewery.com/
Single Speed Session
Cast Iron Oatmeal Brown
Divided Sky Rye IPA
Pyrus Saison
Russian Imperial Stout

Glad you got to experience some of the local beer. Yes, the Chocolate Stout at the Tap Room is no joke. The New Zealand IPA is fab also. Four Hands is around the the corner from my office. Good stuff. Where any of the food trucks out that night? Also, glad you got to experience my favorite Vietnames place.

No, we were at Four Hands yesterday right at 1300 when they opened, so no food trucks.  We were going to leave after breakfast at Rooster, but we decided to stretch it out so that we could get Pho Grand and Four Hands in before we left town.  Since I had been drinking at Four Hands, I spent the rest of the trip riding shotgun sipping on cups of my Schlalfy growler from the night before with full control of the tunes...

...and a good time was had by all.

Just found an app called beerbuddy that allows you to take a pic of the bar code to scan it and it will bring up the ratings of that beer. Tried it out on a couple I had in the fridge worked out pretty well.

so I bought some "Goose Island - Honker's Ale" because I always see MJK hyping Goose Island up on his facebook page.  not bad.  easy to drink.  low potency tho.  nice week night beer tho for sure.

Most of the Goose Island I drink are their special Beglian Style Ales and their line of Bourbon County Stouts. Their regular lines, line 312 and Honkers are pretty good also. They do a Kolsch style in the summer that is really good and their winter ale is good also.

that's what I figured from the labels.  never seen goose island around here but I've never really actively searched for it.  all they had was honker's or 312.  the fuckers sold me old beer.  shit is dated two years ago.  I'm kinda pissed about it because on goose islands website it says "enjoy within 180days" haha.  trying to slowly build a beer stash.  nothing too sweet yet.  got some founders, dogfish head, and now goose island in the fridge.  not sure what to get tonight.  any suggestions?

Depends on the weather and your mood, at least for me it does. Plus what you are eating. I'm not drinking tonight, but I will be tomorrow, heavily. I'll be going local all weekend raning from saisons to dark as fuck stouts

Sucks on the old beer. Their regular lines are one to age. Their special ones will age, and very nicely.

ya know it's strange how the more you try different types the more aware you become of how bad ass or not bad ass certain stores are.  like today I was picking up and noticed so many premium brews I would have never known about have it not be fore this thread.  then I found it.  the rack.  the high end shit.  didn't mess with it yet because I don't have the balls to drop that kind of dime on warm beer.  but regardless this place has all sorts of shit.  going to hit the founder's double trouble next.

tonight went with founder's dirty bastard and dogfish head - midas touch, this dogfish head is one of the least beer tasting beers I've ever had.  it takes very.. wine-ish? grape flavor like woah.  9percent.  will never buy again but do not regret taking the adventure of trying it once.

Sticky Icky Green Stuff

the sticky icky flavor train continues.  on tap this evening we have several delicious brews and our selection is ever growing.

Founder's:
-Centennial Ale
-Dirty Bastard
-Double Trouble
Bell's:
-Third Coast Old Ale
Dogfish Head:
-Midas Touch
-Raison D'etre
Goose Island:
-Honker's Ale

the menu is always changing and we look forward to your input.

drained a bottle of Unibroue Terrible last night. It was anything but terrible. Nice dark ale with a slightly sweet malty dark fruit flavor

I'm going on a mini-vacation to Cleveland in early April (catching the Jays-Indians game and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). I'm going to Greak Lakes Brewery (there's one with the same name here too in Ontario, but both are not related). What Ohio-based IPAs should I check out other than the ones at GLB? I've had a few big US IPAs such as Dogfish Head, Sierra Nevada, Stone...

Great Lakes is, IMO, the best brewery in the state of Ohio.  Commodore Perry is their year round IPA, but they do have a seasonal IPA that is very tasty.  It is Lake Erie Monster, but unfortunately is doesn't arrive until May.  They may have it on tap at the brewery though when you are in town in April.

The best IPA's in this region hail from Michigan.  Bell's and Founders have two of the best IPA's that I've ever tasted and I'm sure you could find a bar somewhere in downtown Cleveland that would have them on tap.

Thanks! I'll file your recommendations away. I'll be posting something soon regarding places to see downtown and in the area, although my wife has already mapped out a decent looking itinerary, although I made this observation, which left her in horror: "You forgot the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".

Yes.  The Rock and Roll HOF is a must see.  I looked up the Indian's schedule to see when you were coming and I'm sorry to inform you, you will be just missing the Gratefuld Dead Exhibit that is set to open April 12th.  :(  I've had this circled on my calander for a while now!  8)

Cleveland is a late birthday present and the Rock and Roll HOF is one of the big reasons for the trip. In her excitement, she forgot the Hall in her itinerary, until I pointed out her oversight. It was pretty funny. Too bad I'll miss the Dead exhibit, but that's ok. Lots to see I'm sure. We're styaing at the Ritz and it isn't expensive. We have great seats for the ballgame too. I'm wearing my vintage '70s Jays jersey or my old school cap. Gotta say I like Cleveland's new throwback uniforms and hat.

A friend from Holland paid me a visit about 3 weeks ago and brought me 12 tall cans of Oranjeboom.  I first thought that it would be just your usual beer with a nice looking can but it really tasted great.  It had a relatively strong kick to it, which you would not actually find you the usual beer cans.

But for the more usual beers, I go for Tiger and Carlsberg.

I've come back full circle momentarily to examine the realizations and revelations I've experienced over the last couple of months trying delicious beers.

conclusions.  All these zanny beers are awesome.  there is one outlier, one mainstream brew that i think is better than a lot of the bullshit i've tried in the lower alcohol level beers.  Sam Adams - boston lager.  here's why.  it's more than just a price thing, tho that helps.  4.8solid, consistent percentage points.   it's worth the extra bucks over molson, or bud, or whatever other shit around that realm of beer.

brown ale's are tight, at least that dogfish head indian brown.   preferred founder's dirty bastard to the double trouble, which is odd since dirty bastard is cheaper and comes in sixers rather than 4packs.  the raison dogfish head is up there for me too.  i go back to that often.  the third lake old ale by bell is probably some of the best beer i've ever had.  I think it's 16.99 a 6'er and is 10.2 where hopslam by bells is 10percent and 20bucks.  I think it's a better flavor personally, less gimmicky.

beer that tastes like chocolate and not too alcohol-ish pale aley are my favorite so far.

wasted. happy st. patricks gay.

Hey sticky, have you tried Bell's Best Brown Ale yet?  If you haven't, you should give it a try if you like Brwon Ales!
