Penn's done some excellent work over the years, but his most influential role is still Spicoli. His look, his dialogue, his general stoner characterization has been copied ever since Fast Times came out.

QuoteI was hoping to catch a movie or 2 when I'm in the UK but this holiday season's selection is crap!
New poster! I miss this by a couple of weeks  :'(

Nice...cant wait for this!!

Cant think of anyone better for the role than Rourke..Ex-boxer who has the chops to pull this off and make you believe he would actually be this character.

From the looks of the trailer...best actor nomination maybe  :-?

They announced Golden Globe nominations today, and Rourke was 1 of the 5 for best actor.

I really want to see Benjamin Button too. That got nominated for Best Picture, and Pitt got 1 for Best Actor. It looks great

Ledger got the nom for Best Supporting Actor as well. Judging by his competition, PSHoffman seems like the only 1 who could beat him to me.

Sadly or maybe not sadly I think that's pretty much true. God that's such a great movie.

Or he's remembered as that angry dude married to Madonna in th 80's.

I completely forget that they were even married sometimes!

I agree with everything that has been said but also want to mention his work as a director. Indian Runner was a good little film, haven't seen The Crossing Guard or Pledge but Into The Wild was excellent!
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Just finished watching Pumpkin for the first time. Another good performance by Christina Ricci. She's one of ladies who can act well.
Evey: Are you, like, a crazy person?
V: I am quite sure they will say so.

CG and Pledge were both Ok, but nothing special. Hard to make a bad Jack Nicholson movie though

"Milk" Sean Penn, one of our greatest actors, locks up an Oscar nomination with his performance as Harvey Milk, the first self-identified gay elected to U.S. public office. At age 40, Milk was determined to do "something different" with his life. He's open to change. We see how the everyday experiences of this gay man politicize him, and how his instincts allow him to become a charismatic leader, while always acknowledging the sexuality that society had taught him to conceal. One of the year's most moving films.

Just saw this tonight.  Great fucking movie, for anyone who gives a shit.  Most likely everyone but MMJ Fanatic  ::)

I agree, I thought it was fantastic.  The storyline felt a little formulaic at times, but Sean Penn gave the performance of his career, IMO.  And the rest of the ensemble was stellar.  I finally understood why James Franco gets so much hype.

You sure about that?! Thats saying something

Dead Man Walking
Carlito's Way
Sweet and Lowdown
Mystic River
State of Grace

It would be quite a feat if he's better in this than any of these for me, esp the first 3.

Then I am, indeed, saying something...I usually am   ;)  Yeah, I think he was better in Milk than in any of those.  Though I did really like him in Sweet and Lowdown.

I'm not much of a fan of Penn's earlier work, but I think his career's really taking an interesting turn lately.  Did anyone see that episode of Iconoclasts with him and Jon Krakauer?

Also, he's aged beautifully.  Hello, silver fox...

On a completely unrelated note, I got motion sickness at Rachel Getting Married.   :P
if it falls apart or makes us millionaires

Well, she can act well sometimes. She's prone to acting fairly stiff on occasion. The only flaw in Monster was Ricci's forced performance.

Not what I meant at all.

What I meant was there's no point in me trying to say what 1000s & 1000s of critics & fans have already said before.

An absolute classic IMO, no dispute.

Sorry, hard to tell on the internet sometimes. There are a lot of people who do think it's overrated...but they're just wrong  ;)

Man, just watched Rushmore for the first time. Beautiful movie. Damn you, Wes Anderson. Such a genius.

Royal Tenenbaums is up for a second viewing sometime before Thursday now.
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

I probably should see Before Sunset as I loved Before Sunrise
