Winter's Bone

Didn't really love this, but the acting definitely held my attention. I  don't have much more to say about that, thanks!

Man that movie was really something else. I had read the book before the movie which was stunning but kinda left me wanting more out of the film.....John Hawkes tho (the Uncle Teardrop character) and the girl were amazing!
Oh, I will dine on honey dew And drink the Milk of Paradiseeeee

Perfume:  A Story of a Murderer.

Anybody seen that one?  Read the book.  It's pretty strange, but brilliant.
Touch me I'm going to scream.

Back from my Sundance experience and man, we packed in some films this weekend! Disclaimer:  I am not a film expert or anything, just a girl with ski-bum parents who happen to live in Park City. And we don't have the tres expen$ive VIP badges, so our film choices are left up to my Mom and the very confusing system for buying tickets. So this is what we saw:

Prairie Love- ummmmm....yeah. Very beautiful, aesthetically. Strange story though, and perhaps this was intentional, but the dialog felt empty. And I thought the plot was almost insultingly predictable. I don't really recommend it, but I hope this leads to more parts for the lead actor. He has great comedic timing.
Homework- this got bought, as I assumed it would. Definitely reminded me of a John Hughes flick for this generation. I am not sure if I would see this outside of Sundance, but I really enjoyed it. Think Holden Caulfield, with even more apathy (one scene with him reading Camus at the lunch table alone felt extremely spoon fed, IMO....give your audience a little more credit).
Like Crazy- it is weird watching a story of first love interrupted at 8:30 am. But there is a reason why this won the critics award. The whole film was done super quick, and while they definitely had some good funding in order to shoot their locations (LAX, London's tube, Heathrow, etc), this was just an awesome flick, indie style film. I teared up, mostly at the actors' beautiful embodiment of their characters. You see, they did not use a script. This movie was pure improve off of outlines of scenes and characters. Loved it. It too was bought, you will be seeing this one released as well.
Win Win- Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan...nuff said. This premiered here, not Sure if it was in competition. Funny and heartfelt. Loved it. Go see it (releases on 3/18).
Circumstance- this won the audience award, and it is understood why. This movie still sits with me. It is about 2 teenage girls in Iran, exploring their friendship, sexuality, and desires to just be free. Never should we women in the west, gay or straight, ever take for granted our freedoms. Ever. This shows sides of Iranian culture that I knew existed, but not really (does that even make sense?)...
Go see this movie. Most amazing was that this was filmed by a women on location in Iran. If the damn morality police only knew what she was doing. The director is very brave for getting this story out. Again, go see it.

Thanks!  I did not see Hobo with a Shotgun.  It is borderline insane trying to get tickets during the festival.  My Mom waited in line on 2 separate mornings for about 4 hours at a time to try to get day of tickets, with no luck.  So we just had what she was able to order when the tickets originally went on sale.  I believe the system is set up that they print the catalog and then you have a few days to peruse the options.  Then they have a lottery for a time-slot to buy tickets.  Last year my Mom scored the very first time time slot and was able to get whatever movies and times she wanted (each film is shown a couple times over the course of 10 days).  This year she did not fair so well.  But the movies we saw were all great.  She saw some crappy ones though, before Mr. Wizzard and I got into town.

*edit- almost all the movies we saw were great.  And second edit- Like Crazy did have lines, just no script  ;)

Piranha - 5/5 stars. This movie filled any epectation a B-movie has. Hilarious, gorey, fun. Lot of nudity. Also Christopher Lloyd actin all Doc Brown like.

Yeah, thought this was a lot of fun, probably even better in 3D...Hit it right on the head - over the top gore, tits a plenty, and dialogue that is supposed to be funny even though its not funny but actually is funny. Lloyd was good, as was Jerry O'Connell

it's all very interesting, isn't it?  i need to watch this again

SPOILER ALERT

....i have this feeling that we are all being put on

I finally watched Exit Through The Gift Shop last night.

I am with you, something is afoot.

The American---sucked, sucked, sucked

The Social Network--very entertaining

RED--my favorite of late

Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

"still bill" documentary on showtime.  Great story, super smoothe cat, who has chosen to stay out of the biz for over twenty years, despite wicked talent.  There were some surprising, " I got really choked up and shed a couple of tears," moments........and it wasn't the part when, yes, our boy, JJ shows up in two brief cameos.  I thought I was going to hear him sing, "ain't No sunshine," but there was narrating going on, so No dice.
Overall, great doc and so glad I watched!

Hawkeye

The Rite - meh.  I was bored the whole time.  Only felt my pulse increase once or twice.  Wasn't really interested in any of the characters.  4/10
We could.

Sticky Icky Green Stuff

Faster - 3/10 - Dwayne Johnson(sp?) aka The Rock starts is this action packed pulse pounded, completely lifeless, pointless, horribly stupid puke of a movie.  If you've ever wanted to see the rock shoot people in the face this movies for you.  that is all that's really in the movie tho, no real character development.  it's pure dwayne all the way.  billy bob, you dumb drunk retire before you destroy your reputation.

Due Date - 6/10 - Zach was pretty funny.  his mannerisms more than anything were hilarious.  his super tight hipster jeans, his hair, etc.  it gave zach a chance to play every emotional spectrum there is though.  the sad drama parts kinda suck.  some good jokes in there tho.

Piranha - 4/10 - wtf dudes?  5/5's? it was alright.  it blows me away they got that many big name stars to make that movie.  it's just above snakes on planes for me.

It was definitely a tounge in cheek review for a tounge in cheek movie. As I stated above, it met all of my expectations for it. I can see how it's not for everyone but coming off a high stress week, it was the perfect movie to sit around with friends and poke fun at/ have fun with.

That being said it is no Evil Dead 2 which is a 5-star B-movie and imho a 5-star movie out and out....I guess in the B-Horror/Comedy genre Piranha can rate a 5/5. In a regular movie rating system it would fall round a 3/5 or using your 10-pt system, in my opinion it would be maybe a 6/10.

I hear what your sayin.  It kept my attention.  there was a ton of titty in it and for that it earns bonus points.

the town:  good, not great.  Jeremy Renner was very good, but not even close to his performance in Hurt locker, nor in the same league as Chrisitan Bale.

City island:  delightful little film with Andy Garcia, juliana marguiles, Ezra miller.  Very enjoyable!  Playing on star now, check it out!

Black Swan.  Didn't care for it.  Moved so slow I almost walked out about 1/2 hour in to it.  That being said,  Natalie Portman probably does deserve the oscar for her performance.

Exit Through the Gift Shop - 4/5 - Loved this Documentary... Made me want to get into street art. Wish it would have provided more insight into the art itself, it's obstacles (maybe some war stories/ close calls). All in all I have the utmost respect for these people and they should be treasured.

The Mechanic - 2.5/5 - Statham played it cool. Foster had a dynamic performance. Action-packed, stylish. Great mix of Classical Schubert and modern delta bluesy rock (Galactic, North Miss All-stars). Plot was clunky, poorly executed and pretty careless. Worth a watch if you are in the mood for this kind of thing but all in all nothing too special.

ManNamedTruth

I borrowed The Evil Dead trilogy from a friend. I think they're overrated, felt like B movies to me. Bad acting and silly 3 stooges bits. I still prefer classic and foreign horror.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!
