scream 4.  not bad, a little long towards the end but it kept my attention.  but the reason might not be because of film quality.  I think they filmed it in michigan around my house because the local news guy is one of the news guys in the movie.  weird to see a news guy playing a news guy.

Finally saw True Grit. Loved it. I thought Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Hailee Steinfeld did an excellent job.

In response to some of the Potter dialogue, I had no problem with them splitting up the final book, though I have yet to see the finale.  I like to wait until theaters aren't packed.  I always thought that any of the last five books could have been easily spread into two films.  There is so much in the books that I wish that the Potter series (though I know it won't) gets the George RR Martin treatment with a high budget, extended television series that does justice to the density of substance in the books.

Yeah. That would be pretty phenomonal, but it would take so much to do. There is so many little things that paint a picture of JKR's world but do not necessarily add to the broader story. I would like to see a season a book. Maybe 2 seasons for DH. It's the same argument/thought with LOTR came out and Peter Jackson made some needed but unpopular cuts.

Im sure I went in with Coens + Bridges high expectation, but I didnt like this as much as I thought. The girl is good, but somewhat overbearing (and unbelievable for her age), and the rest of the movie isnt quite enough to put it in the top half of Coens films for me.

We watched Insidious this weekend. It had its weaker moments, but that movie creeped me out. It was the weirdest thing I've seen in a while. I still shudder when thinking of that demon.
Really? That movie was such a mess storyline wise. The visuals of the ghosts were very well done, but looked just like Mary Shaw from "Dead Silence". Of course because INSIDIOUS was written and produced (as well as acted in) by Leigh Whannel and James Wan who did Saw amd Dead Silence. Insidious went nowhere and 90 minutes later you still had no clue and no answers. And that ending...... Blech.
Why does my mind blow to bits everytime they play that song?

Hall Pass
I guess maybe my expectations were dampened due to some reviews, but I thought it was hilarious and found myself consistenly laughing. Probably has more laughs in the first half, but I thought it stayed funny the whole way thru, which most comedies havent been doing lately. Couldve definitely used more JB Smoove, but thats probably my only real complaint. Better than any comedy I recall seeing from 2010 (maybe even 09) and havent seen any from this year yet besides this
7.8/10

...which got me to thinking where Id rank it with other Farrelly Brothers movies:

Dumb & Dumber
There's Something About Mary
Kingpin

Hall Pass
Me, Myself, & Irene
Say It Isnt So
Outside Providence

The Heartbreak Kid
Fever Pitch

Shallow Hal
Stuck On You

Top 3 are classics for me. Next group, Im sure I like SIIS and MM&I more than most, but just like Hall Pass, they made me laugh much more than the average comedy. All 3 are close. Outside Providence is really a better movie than pure comedy so I put it behind those. Heartbreak Kid and Fever Pitch were both 5-6/10 comedies for me, the last group I thought both were pretty bad.

Capt America - disappointing after the excellent Thor but the Avengers teaser at the end was cool

How i'd rate The Avengers movies so far:

1) Iron Man/Thor
3) Hulk
4) Iron Man2
5) Capt America
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Interesting. Mostly heard positive reports about Capt America whereas Thor was entertaining but didnt have much to the story, though the 3 of these that Ive seen I would agree with your ranking (IM1 > Hulk > IM2)

You might like it, the reviews were good. Iron Man & Thor managed to pull off being a lot of fun & very cool at the same time, Capt America wasn't either IMO. It just took itself a little bit too seriously for my liking.

Paul - not as good as SOTD or Hot Fuzz but low expectations made for enjoyable viewing.

Yeah, I dont know if its Seth Rogen being the alien, or just that the trailer doesnt look funny, but Im not in a hurry to see this. Low expectations are always the great equalizer though.

Cannot wait for this movie, looks freakin great. I also think Ryan Gosling is probably the best youngish actor going, so thats just icing on the cake.

Drag Me To Hell: For some reason I held off on seeing this (I'm a big Evil Dead fan). It was well worth the wait. Sam Raimi's return to B-horror/comedy is a lot of fun, and gory as hell too. Evil Dead fans will especially like this. BTW, the old yellow 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 makes another appearance too (it's in almost every Sam Raimi film).

Get Him to the Greek: Pretty funny follow-up/sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Russell Brand is perfectly cast as a debuached rocker with his career nearing rock bottom. His Aldous Snow character is basically satirizing Brand himself, Noel Gallager (and other self-absorbed trainwreck rockers) and tabloid culture. There's some really funny scenes and the script is sincere. Jonah Hill is really good here too as is Snow's father, portayed by the great Irish character actor Colm Meaney (STNG, The Damned United, The Van, Commitments, Parked). The music is excellent throughout.

I really liked this, but I thought the gore and dialogue was actually toned down from what I recall compared to other Raimi movies.

Yeah, the gore was toned down compared to his cult-era flicks. Perhaps he wanted the film to appeal to a bigger audience? Incidently, Alison Lohman was reportedly hired as a replacement for Ellen Page, who had a prior commitment. Lohman did a decent job, but Page would have kicked ass, literally.

Daybreakers: Good cast and stylistic directing with an interesting Omega Man-type plot involving humans-turned-vampires because of a virus. Vamps are the dominant species and harvest humans in giant factory farms. Lots of parallels to modern society including our own food consumption, oil dependency and an inevitable bleak future. If the budget were bigger, this film would have been kick ass. Instead, it's a decent page-turner.
