I really want to see The Woman In Black. The trailer looks so good. I don't think it's showing in Australia yet though.

If you like Hammer and classic ghost/horror films, then you should like this.

The Guard - imagine Brendan Gleeson playing Colin Farrell's part in In Bruges & you've got another very funny film!
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Another one on my radar. It played at my neighbourhood indie theatre recently, but I missed it.

Fully

I just watched a movie from 2000 called Bunny. It's about immigrants from a war-torn country who can't get jobs in their chosen professions because they have just immigrated. They take jobs wearing pink bunny suits and hunching down on street corners hopping like rabbits while strangers come up and pet them, cry on them, fondle them, and/or confide in them. Unusual and at the same time and interesting commentary on what many immigrants go through when they leave their homeland and move to this country. The bunny job is a metaphor for many things in this movie: low skilled jobs filled with highly educated people, comfort such as one's favorite stuffed animal, ambition, loss of identity, etc. Anyway, it made me think and I enjoyed it even though it was sad in many ways.

Crazy, Stupid, Love - 78% on Rotten Tomatoes? Really?! Watch the Office or Rent Drive instead...

Yes. I know the author claims to never have heard of it while writing Hunger Games. I kind of believe that as it's really an abscure cult movie, but damn if the similiarities are not strikingly similiar.

It's not really obscure though, especially in this day and age of the internet and the huge influence of Asian cinema on North America and Britain. The original novel was a big pop culture hit and the film is still revered in Asia and those in the know in the rest of the world including filmmakers such as Tarantino, critics and movie buffs. And any film with Takeshi "Beat" Kitano will get noticed. Goddamit, Battle Royale is a fucking work of genius!

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil - 4.5/5

I f**king loved this movie, so did my wife...very campy and the fun kind of gore. Starring one of my favorite character actors, Alan Tudyk. This movie was extremely funny. Its premise is about 2 "hillbilly" friends who go to restore their vacation home before these college kids show up and all hell breaks loose. It's a very heartfelt horror movie too, which I can't say too often:

Oh, I will dine on honey dew And drink the Milk of Paradiseeeee

I never even heard of it until you pimped it out here. Unless you are someone like Tarantino, the majority of "average" movie fans are not going to know it. I bet if you ask 100 people, maybe 20 would know it. Just my opinon. And yes, it's fucking genius. The day I got it through netflix, I think I watched it like 3 times.

Somewhat depends on your demographic and location I think. I'm not saying its as well-known in the cult realm as an Evil Dead or Donnie Darko, but it does have a fan base, especially since the book remains so popular along with the recent release of the first real North American Criterion treatment. On an aside, a new indie theatre near Toronto's Little India just hosted a Battle Royale screening, bless their hearts.

You are right though: the average movie fan won't know it, not unlike most other great foreign films. But in some cities and circles in North America, Battle Royale does have a decent niche following. Fans of foreign films and action pics from all over the world eventually find the good stuff.

I need a movie theater like that in my area. That would have been a blast to see in a theater for a special screening.

Where is your area again? It takes some brave souls to open up an indie theatre nowadays, but some big chains do show classics on special days. Film buffs are spoiled here. We have around 8 indie neighbourhood theatres and the new swanky headquarters for Toronto International Film Fest has another 6 theatres that will show anything ffrom around the world and vintage films. However, it's a constant battle to keep indie theatres profitable and operational.

St Louis area, but I'm a bit out of the city. There are a few indie theaters in the city but mostly just show major releases. One does show the more unusual films, but they certainly didn't pick this one up and they are not convenient for me to go to.

I can't believe that I missed Inception the time it went on the silver screen because it really is good.  I just caught it last night on a friend's house and good thing that I stayed up a little later than how everyone did.

There was really a big buzz when it was shown but I never had the time to go out and catch it, even though there were some theaters that had it running on extension.

I really want to watch this. It got great reviews and won awards. And any movie with Peter Mullan in it is worth watching.
