9.79, the great ESPN documentary about the Ben Johnson steroid scandal. I lived through this disgrace and this doc is fair and illuminating. All fans of sports of any kind should check this out. Ben comes off as a nice guy as does Calvin Smith. No surprise that Carl Lewis is still a fucker hypocrite creep.
I thought it was well done as well Jaimoe.  I lived in LA right next to LAX during the 84 Olympics and cheering for Carl Lewis is one of my earliest sports memories.  I got to see weightlifting at Loyola Marymount and boxing at the Forum as a 6 year old.  There's the answer to the Age thread.

I'm constantly fascinated by misguided outrage over PED's in any sport, particularly sports that require one specific skill, i.e. running or biking.  I just assume that in the time that I've been alive, the best in the world is always juiced.  Flo Jo?  C'mon.  When I was taking a sports law class a few years back, we had a top rep from USADA (United States Anti Doping Agency) lecture for 90 minutes.  All she talked about was the politics of the agency and how they were committed to busting Lance Armstrong.  This was 2006.  As with vaccination research, doping detection receives minimal financial investment due to lack of investment incentive and always lags behind money making athletic machines that benefit from beating the newest detection methods through creation of new masking agents or advanced undetectable PEDs.

While everyone gets 'outraged' over Lance, every single other rider on his team and those that won or finished in the top 5 over the same years he competed all have been busted at one time or another.  Point being, all were juiced.

I know I went off on a tangent but I do believe that Lewis was cheating just like Dennis Mitchell and Linford Christie.  I'm happy that Ben Johnson had his story told.

I was 20 when this all went down. I followed Lewis and the US track team since the early 80s. The whole "Canada is the only country cheating" really stung and we now all know it was unfounded. At least Ben is good natured and candid about it all. He's still looked at as a pariah in Canada and Carl Lewis will always be viewed as a major asshole.

This is about the only thing ESPN does well anymore.  I saw Ghosts of Mississippi last week or and Benji last night and both docs were excellent!

Have you seen the one on Terry Fox produced by Steve Nash? Beautiful.¡'-'

Black Swan was pretty good. I give it 4/5 although some of the stuff towards the end was a little dumb.

Mahgeetah34

Go see Skyfall! Preferably in Imax. I give it a 4.5 out of 5

Snow White and the Huntsman- it was okay. The effects were pretty cool, but it ended a bit abruptly imo.
How loud can silence get?

I had the opportunity to watch "Lincoln" tonight. It was great. How can you go wrong with Spielberg and Day-Lewis? Afterall, Daniel Day-Lewis has been proclaimed the greatest actor of our time.

I'm suprised that noone has mentioned here.

I'm going to see Lincoln this weekend...heard it was really great!!

last weekend I saw Silver Linings Playbook and thought it was really good. I think anyone would like it. Bradley Cooper was great, especially since I had only seen him in The Hangover before this.

I also really liked Argo when I saw that about a month ago, and liked Safety Not Guaranteed a lot as well.

As far as the greatest actor of our time, that goes to Denzel Washington.

I watched Abduction a few weeks ago and noticed the main character had an MMJ poster in his room!

LBSUNFLWR

went to see Flight this weekend instead of Lincoln. and Denzel was excellent, as always.
good movie.

Tracy 2112

Saw > Life of Pi.

Thought it was pretty good; hard to talk about without spoiler alet
Be the cliché you want to see in the world.

Anna Karenina.....it was good, inspired me to read the (1679 page-yikes) book!

Saw Lincoln last Friday afternoon.  While I checked my watch a few times, it runs 2 hrs 20 mins, it is a really good movie!  Daniel Day Lewis should easily get some Oscar Noms for that one.

And then I got to watch my Netflix movies... I will state with a fact of certainty that Tim Burton and Seth Grahame-Smith should not work together on movies every again!  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer and Dark Shadows were terrible!!  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer was nothing like the book, most of the plot was changed.  I thought the book was okay, but the movie was just bad.  Some may like it if they didn't read the book and have expectations.  Dark Shadows was just a waste of time in my opinion...
Pretty please with peanut butter pudding surprise on top??

I was just restating Oprah's opinion, yo. :cheesy:

Just saw A Separation.  It was awesome.  Interesting seeing the differences, as well as the similarities, between Iran/U.S and more importantly, Iranians/Americans.  And it would be good just for that factor, but more importantly, the themes (love, morality, loss) are universal and presented in a truly honest and compelling way.

I've been lazy about coming here lately since I watch so many movies. But yeah, best movie I've seen all year and agree with everything you said.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Tell me about watching a lot of movies, since November 1st I've watched 26 movies/documentaries.  A Separation was for sure one the best new movies I've seen this year, and holds it's own with many of the older/classic movies I've seen this year.

I watched The Queen of Versailles tonight, good documentary, interesting, sad (on so many levels).

We took the boys out to see The Hobbit and really enjoyed ourselves. It was gorgeous to look at and was a fun ride. There is a tonal skewing - as compared to LOTR - toward the preteen boy crowd but I'm cool with that.
Babe, let's get one thing clear, there's much more stardust when you're near.
