While trying to discover my "musical tastes", I have found that I just really like GOOD OLD ROCK & ROLL.  I have found numerous bands i love but was wondering if anyone knew anymore bands that would fit this kind of taste...

My Morning Jacket (ofcourse)
Wilco
Ryan Adam's
John Prine
The Hold Steady
Drive By Truckers
Old Crow Medicine Show
Rolling Stones
Allen Toussiant
The Band
Gillian Welch
Bright Eyes

Any others that kind of fit this kind of mold (good lyrics, good jams, good old rock and roll) ???
God damn those shaky knees.

That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Killgies

1. Tom Petty
Everyone should own his Greatest Hits album.

2. Neil Young
Gold Rush - amazing

3. M. Ward

"Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?"

Jaimoe

The White Stripes and The Soundtrack Of Our Lives fall into the "good old rock and roll" category. So does Sloan, Supergrass, The Raconteurs, The Shins, The Stills, Broken Social Scene and countless other killer power-pop bands.

TheBigChicken

the fruit bats love makin' made all the kids cry

pretty much what Jaimoe and rc said.

You cannot go wrong with Supergrass and CCR dude.

DaFunkyPrecedent

heard of most of those...except supergrass.  What's their deal?

They burst out in the 90's from England and kick major modern power-pop ass. One of that genre's true masters. Here's All Music Guide's write-up and CD reviews: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&searchlink=SUPERGRASS&sql=11:jxfqxqqgld0e~T0

BTW, if you caught VH1's Who Tribute from last last week, Supergrass' leader, Gaz Coombes, sang lead on The Foo Fighters' version of "Bargain".

Here's some good 'uns.

I can't speak for the Dexateens because I haven't seen them live yet, but Glossary is one of the best damn live bands out there. I saw them last week and the only cover they did was "Evil Urges".   :)

They're phenomanal and in my top 10 favorite bands of all time. Their albums are fantastic. If you have any interest in what the music press dubbed "Britpop" do yourself a favor and check out their first 2 albums I Should Coco and In It For The Money which came out during the height of Britpop. Any of their albums would be an excellent choice however.

i think supergrass and gomez are two exceptions to the standard brit pop scene---almost like they're the british jam bands---i would highly recommend them both

also add Traffic to your list and i would recommend some Alejandro Escovedo

did I mention Wolf Parade??
....as mayor of Drugachusettes, I declare this pizza to be...AWESOME!!!

The DARK

Absolutely Dr. Dog if you're into the Beatles/Band sound.

Comets on Fire are great, loud psychadelic rock.

Black Mountain if you have some classic metal leanings.

Nick Cave is more of an acquired taste, but some of his recent stuff is reminiscent of the Doors, in the best possible way.

Recent Okkervil River is also a good bet.

Outformation, a recent discovery of mine, is great if you're into Ryan Adams and Drive-By Truckers.

Otherwise, I agree with all the bands previously mentioned.
In another time, in another place, in another face

QuoteCCR 8-)
I love listening to CCR when my family and I go on holiday, driving down the long roads and bends.

This is one of my favourite bands and they're also my avatar:
Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, they sound like good 70's-ish rock and roll. Please check them out. I know Jacket fans will like them.
Here's their song Drive Me Insane, please watch...

Digging on these Outformation guys...it's jammy but not noodly (if that makes sense).

Black Mountain is a band i've been meaning to get into - i keep hearing wonderful things, have just never had the undying urge to buy their cd, but i think this was a the feather that broke the camels back.

Howlin' Rain anyone?  Just heard these guys too...they're from Santa Cruz CA, which is nice for me seeing as how Im from the Bay.  We don't get much of the "southern rock" acts out west in their blooming stages...but howlin' rain will do just fine.  Check em out, they're way fun!
