I know this is really an ,'other music' thread but I've just discovered DBT! I'm really excited about them! The're the closest thing 2 MMJ IMHO. If you haven't checked them out check out the video below and the 14th video down called, '18 Wheels Of Love' on the 1st page on their U-tube place. DBT opening up for The Jacket would THRILL me to no end,

18 wheels of love was played at Bonnaroo this past year and was great. I almost cried!  ;D

I've been posting for about two years about how incredible a DBT/MMJ tour would be.  Patterson and Jim are good friends.

Are they really?  That's awesome...I know Patterson had Evil Urges among his top records this year.

I'd love to see an MMJ/DBT tour.  The DBT sound isn't that close to MMJ, in my opinion...but the energy of the live show is much the same!

Yeah different sounds for sure..but DBT bring it just like MMJ.  There are a few Patterson blogs on the DBT site where he talks about MMJ's music and how him and Jim got to chat at the Roo' and other places.  He also attended the 40 Watt Prom Shows that MMJ did last year and Patterson said it was the best show he saw all year in his end of the year blog.

When and where did this occur? I seriously can't think of a better combo....I saw MMJ open for Wilco and Wilco Open for Neil Young but I think this would top both.

With Deer Tick, no less!

I wish he would come back to Chicago.  Guess I'll have to try to catch him at SXSW...wish me luck.

Looks like it was 02.  That was a great show.  Jim came out in a 50 gallon foam cowboy hat and they opened with Sooner!  Oh yeah, and Johnny Quaid climbed a speaker right in front of me.  At one point he almost lost control and his guitar came inches from my face.  He told me after the show that it was a lot shakier up there than he thought it was going to be and he's glad we both came out of it okay.

I'm sure Jason will be in Chicago sometime this Summer. The dates that are on his Myspace page now are more than likely only the first leg of the tour. I'm pretty sure they'll spend most of this year supporting the new record. If I had to guess, they'll be home for a few weeks after the Nashville show in March, then they'll be back on the road.

Awesome!  I guess I could dig into the setlist archives but was that a traditional closing trio for that run of gigs?  AD, BH and PWW?  Interesting

Back in those days there was no "traditional" encores because they rarely did encores.  In 02 they were opening for other bands across the US (Eyes Adrift, Ben Kweller, Beth Orton) and we they were in Louisville there weren't enough people at their shows to call them back out.  As a matter of fact this may have been the first time I saw them do an encore.

Thx, well that makes sense.  I guess I found the 3 songs somewhat a bit curious choice.

It wasn't quite DBTs opening for MMJ, but back in 2015, after OBH2 the wife & I decided to do Red Rocks for the first time.  Our initial plan was to see Alabama Shakes, with the Drive-by Truckers opening up.  Got our tickets, planned the trip, then Jacket announced they were playing Red Rocks two days earlier, on the day our flight arrived.  Jacket's Red Rocks 2015 show was our first Red Rocks show, and it was epic.  We followed it up with the DBTs and the Shakes two days later.  It was a great Red Rocks baptism.
